This review is for our pre-event reservation experience. We did not end up holding our event at the…read moreEngineers Club, so we cannot review it in that capacity. We are not local to Dayton (we live on the west coast), or what happened might have been avoided or handled far earlier. We rented the auditorium at the Engineer's Club for our wedding welcome event. We were going to have a movie night, and told them this up front. We saw photos online of movie nights in the Engineer's Club auditorium and were excited to have a similar event there. When we signed the agreement, we were told that the movie equipment, including "dvd player, projector, movie screen, and sound system," would cost $200 on top of the $900 venue rental fee. We signed the agreement and paid the non-refundable $900 deposit that was required (the full venue fee). We asked if a lower deposit was possible, but were told no. Four months before the event, we flew to Dayton and visited the Club to meet the event director and walk through the space to go over the plans. In the auditorium was a small presentation screen. The kind set up on its own free-standing easel. Imagine the old overhead projector screens from school in the 90s--the screen was smaller than our home television. We were told that was the movie screen for our event with an estimated 120 guest count (as written in the agreement). It turned out that if we wanted an actual movie screen that fit the auditorium, we'd have to pay even more to rent it and a projector from an outside AV company. We admit we were at fault for not confirming more details (movie screen dimensions, projector model/capability) before signing and paying the deposit. But the Engineer's Club could have been more clear and transparent about what facilities they had, and that our event was not a good fit for their space unless we were willing to spend more. Rather than paying the additional rental costs, we found a charming movie theater in Miamisburg for less than half the price, and it included all the tech required to show a full-size movie. The Engineer's Club agreed to refund a portion of our deposit, which was kind, but we were still out a significant amount of money because of how expensive their original deposit was. Because of our experience, I cannot recommend planning a private event here.

The Birch House at Glen Helen is absolutely beautiful and I was excited to find a venue for our…read morewedding that met what we were looking for. It's intimate and charming and was everything I was looking for! The staff is very friendly and I had a good experience with them up to the week of my wedding. The event coordinator, Ann, had solicited her services as a wedding planner when we booked the venue. She is pleasant and sweet, but unorganized and this became very apparent the week before our wedding. We arrived at the Birch House the day before to start decorations and my family was asked to set up tables and chairs and clean bird feces off of them. It seemed unorganized and unprofessional to ask for my family to be cleaning bird feces off of everything... especially since this can be a major source of spreading disease AND that is a venue responsibility. My father-in-law showed up the next morning a couple of hours before the wedding and the chairs were still dirty with bird feces in the ceremony area and wouldn't have been clean by the time guests arrived for the wedding if he hadn't spent an hour and a half cleaning them. Ann said she would also be there the entire time to help with transitioning guests, caterers and I shouldn't stress about anything, but I had to try to find them multiple times to help. Overall, it would have been a better experience if I had not paid for her to help plan it because I could have ensured things didn't fall apart the week before the wedding. She mixed up our tent rentals, booking reservations, there was no lighting in the tent whatsoever for my wedding ceremony (which caused nobody to get a good picture of us being married and this is something she should have addressed prior as something we needed and we would have been happy to pay the additional expense), and she should have had staff available to clean the tables and chairs. There was no flow between the ceremony, serving food, cake cutting, etc. When she solicited her services as a wedding planner (as a side job to being the event coordinator for Glen Helen), she assured us that she would take the stress off of us and make things go smoothly.... I felt like I had to do majority of the work I asked her to do and the things I let her book were all wrong. I would not recommend using her as a wedding planner if you book anything at Glen Helen. Aside from that, it's an absolutely stunning venue that provides an intimate setting to share your wonderful day with family and friends.

Flat floor, no slope, we were 25 min early but stadium seating, sat 1/2 way back. Difficult to see the stage, floor is flat. Play: couldn't see it, couldn't hear it, Left early. Bottom line on this: Won't be back

It was a fun night with 80's music, trivia , dinner and of course the movie. The mood is always fun and the bar has a nice selection of beers and cocktails themed on the movie. The crowd is always fun and dresses up for each movie. We had the grand prize trivia winner at our table. Highly recommend checking them out with a group of friends

It was spacious enough to hold almost 200 people with room for a dance floor and food. We especially loved the balcony, which has incredible stained glass. It was well-priced, and we highly recommend it. The venue has tables and chairs, a speaker system, a bar, and more. The venue's organizer, Kari, was a huge help as well.

The main seat selection is standard stadium seats that are close together and I'd recommend being a seat cushion. And don't bring a pocket knife or other weapon as it will be confiscated at the door. Bottle of water is $3 and a beer or personal size bottle of wine is $7. They have popcorn and other concession foods. Honestly it's a wonderful night out and my wife and myself enjoyed the evening. If it is available that night they have a first come first serve seating with more comfortable folding chairs or a chair and folding table setup. I'd check by calling first to see if that's going to be available that event before just expecting it.

Ample parking is available on site, to the rear of the building. This large facility is a combination of neoclassical and art deco architecture. With multiple floors and many meeting rooms & lounges full of architectural symbols related to the Masonic fraternity, it is a showcase for the high watermark of historic Masonic temples. Still occupied by the Masonic fraternity and it's various appendant bodies, it is a vibrant well used community facility and does host other events from time to time. A tremendous asset to the Dayton region.

As she was showing us around, the lady GINA was more concerned about how SHE wanted us to do things and HER idea of our wedding than ours made us feel like we were there for HER. No matter what we said or how much we said we had everything worked out HER idea or way was better. She always had a better place to get things or do things. (It made us wonder if she got a kickback) This lady needs a wake up call a realize she is showing a POLICE HALL and is not a wedding planner! As for the property...This is a police lodge NOT a banquet center. Thank goodness for our GPS because there is no address or sign that says powell banquet center! If you get past that deception you approach the building to obvious lack of care. As you dodge the craters in the parking lot that are just waiting to swallow your tires you see this appealing building. After the crater field you get out of your car and approach the door to broken benches, peeling window tint, and the door pull was broken on the inside. After you enter the building keep looking at eye level. If you look up or down you will see a huge difference. The walls have been updated and are the cleanest thing there. Then you look down and there is the lack luster of a pink tile floor that reminds you of your days in school. They were not clean nor polished. As you enter the kitchen you are greeted by your grandmas brown wood kitchen cabinets with brand new commercial chefs stove with a run down rusty commercial refrigerator, and a household refrigerator/freezer. I was then taken outside to a shelter house with blown over trash cans that were full of trash. The property itself was rough around the edges. The grass was mowed, but there were sticks, and you can see the overgrown of the woods approaching! There was a beautiful gazebo overlooking a pond. Since my wedding was in the spring I asked about the landscaping and I was assured it would be perfect! (I don't think so!) There was a red stained concrete walkway that my fiance said needed to be sealed or would look horrible before or wedding. He also was concerned about the trees above the wedding guests that were untrimmed. While out there she once again Gina had her own ideas of out wedding. At that point I did all I could just to get out. Pros: Very nice gazebo on a pond. Lots of Parking Bring your own caterer (huge saving) Supply your own alcohol (huge savings) Use of Kitchen Cons: THE PERSON THAT RUNS THE PLACE GINA! (SHE IS THE #1 REASON WE DID NOT RENT IT ON THE SPOT!) They have no brides room. No grooms Room. Upkeep Brown folding chairs (would have to rent better chairs, but can with the price) Deceptive advertising!!!! Parking lot in bad shape! HUBER HEIGHTS POLICE PLEASE FIRE THIS LADY, GIVE YOUR PROPERTY A GOOD CLEANING, UPDATE & FIX SOME THINGS AND YOU JUST MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING THERE!
