My favorite cuisine is authentic middle eastern and I roll Turkish into the same category. Therefore I am probably as critical of middle eastern as I am of Italian, being of Italian descent. I usually have to go to Chicagoland or SoCal to patronize my favorite spots, no more. Cedars is authentic Lebanese. The lamb kabob, baba ghanouge, yogurt, Lebanese rice, and lamb kafta were superb. The kafta and kabob were some of the juiciest lamb dishes I have ever had. Rena offered superb service and was a joy to speak with. Little hole in the wall serving traditional Lebanese fare by the owners. Super nice couple. We decided to eat in and enjoyed the music and the delight of other diners. The smell and sighs were real ! The Kibbeh Nayyah is only available certain days and you need to order ahead or get on the list. Do it, the onions were seasoned and allowed to rest to perfection , the grain and seasoning were correct. We are on the list now. Meat pie was to die for, hummus with meat (lamb) was a big winner, loobey was delicious. The pita and pilaf also very good. It is a BYO establishment and the wine flowed. Came here for dinner with my dear friend that I hadn't seen in a while. We were really excited for dinner given how great the reviews for this place are, and how convenient the location was for us. We enjoyed dinner, but it didn't wow me like I was hoping. We started with the Mazza Platter, and all of the dips that were offered were alright. I don't know that any of them really stood out either which way. For my entree I got the Cedars Lamb Shish Kabob. It was a single kabob on a huge bed of rice. The flavor was alright but I was very disappointed in the portion of meat, especially at that price tag. The service was wonderful though, and the ambiance is non-pretentious in the best way. I would definitely come back but I would change my order to get a better bang for my buck. read more

For many years, I have read the praises of Cedars Mediterranean Cuisine. In early July, my father (visiting from out-of-state) and I finally dined at this outstanding South Hills restaurant. After the meal, we both concluded the food was exceptional in every aspect and was made better by the service. My father raved about his Gyro Salad. I ordered the Lamb Chops. The lamb was perfectly cooked, tender, and had a delightful grilled taste. I can confidently say that the lamb is carefully sourced and is high quality. Don't forget to order hummus. Authenticity! My husband and I were warmly welcomed. We were looking at the pictures on the walls more than the menu. There are pictures of Lebanon hanging on both sides. All the history...it sparked a very good conversation with the waitress, but mostly a 20 questions session for her! We knew she was busy but we just loved hearing all about Lebanon and the traditional food and different dishes that were home made there. Must try! --- Baba Ganouge, please. I had to get some work done to my car at a dealer in the area and we found this little gem on yelp. The waitress was very welcoming when we walked in and continued to provide help and guidance as we reviewed the menu to determine what we wanted to try. The hummus was delicious. I had a salad that was full of flavor, maybe a little overdressed for some, but I didn't mind. The acidity was perfect and the chicken was juicy and loaded with spices (in a good way). My uncle had a spicy chicken kebab with rice. He ordered it medium spicy level and said he would probably order hotter next time, but it was still delicious. Their iced tea is a little different than normal, and she explained that when we ordered, a little floral flavor to me, but very fresh and enjoyable. This is not an area we are in often, but we would definitely go back if we were in the area again. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat in the McMurray area. The owner who waits tables is very kind and hospitable and she is always a joy to see. She treats every guest like family. My only regret is not being able to visit Cedars more often. My favorite dish to order is the souvlaki kebab with the mild sauce which I mix in with the rice. The sauce has plenty of stewed veggies, and could also be ordered as a spicy sauce instead. Cedars is the first place I ever tried stuffed grape leaves, and they are a very good appetizer here. If you like hummus or baba ganoush, both are great options here as well. I also recommend trying one of their teas here, as they go well with almost any dish here. read more

We had lunch here today. Started with delicious hummus with fresh pita. I don't always love hummus. I would come back just for the hummus. We had a gyro plate and a lamb chop with rice. Tried the rice pilaf and house rice. Both were outstanding. My kid said the little bit of meat in the house rice was thr perfect amount to make it delicious. I lived most of my adolescence in the Detroit Metro area -- a place with one of the highest concentrations of Lebanese immigrants in the United States. As a result, some of my fondest memories of Detroit are of finding a little hole-in-the-wall that served excellent homemade Lebanese food. When I moved to Pittsburgh, I became well (and sadly) aware that such restaurants simply didn't exist in the area ... or at least, so I thought. Cedars is a tiny, unassuming place tucked in the back of a strip mall. When you walk in, you doubt that it's even a restaurant. And then you order and begin eating the food, and it's pretty good stuff! The hummus tastes freshly-made, with just the right drizzling of olive oil. The pitas are the real Lebanese deal: paper-thin, chewy, delicious. The rice pilaf is mouth-watering: the fragrance of pine nuts and almonds, a tantalizing hint of olive oil, savory spices. And as for the meats? They're the star of the show. A proper Lebanese kebab is a study in subtle flavors; none of the loud, bold tastes that star in Greek cuisine. Here, delicious understatement is the order of the day. A judicious amount of charring; delicate applications of salt; subtle applications of spice -- all there, and all delicious. The meat is perfectly cooked, no matter which meat you choose. The prices are incredibly reasonable, and the service is incredibly friendly (how a Lebanese restaurant ends up with a Korean waitress is beyond me, but the restaurant and the waitress both are AWESOME, so ...). Watching the flow of traffic in and out the door, it's clear that this is a community-centric place; everyone who comes in seems to be a regular. Hospitable, welcoming, friendly, delicious are all adjectives which describe Cedar's Mediterranean Cuisine adequately. To say I eat at Cedar's on a regular basis is...an understatement. There aren't many items on the menu which I haven't eaten. All of which are truly exceptional. These are the staples that must be eaten at Cedars: Chicken Kebab, always carefully seasoned and expertly cooked. Out of the dozens I've eaten, never a dry one. Always perfect. Kafta Kebab, same as above. Delicious. Juicy, Adequately Seasoned. Someone below once said that it tasted like hamburger. Lady, you're nuts. Again, I've ate dozens of them. No hamburgers here. Tabouli. Outrageous. It's wet, adequate parsley(flat leaf, of course), white onion, tomato, bulghur, lemon, salt and pepper. The absolute best. No Med restaurant in the Pittsburgh area makes it better. Baba Ganoush, smokey, smooth, delicious. Yogurt, delicious. You shouldn't be allowed to eat at Cedars unless you get the yogurt. It elevates anything you put it on. Rice, proteins, etc. Delicious. Spicy Chicken, Spicy Kafta, Spicy Chicken Taouk. All delicious. Desserts. Several different baklava choices. All home made. All delicious. Not all are available at all times though. The folks that own Cedars are wonderful people that will make you an excellent meal and they are gracious for your business.
