A visit to the riding ranch at Sweeneys is like stepping back in time a hundred years. It is quite and peaceful and the only sound you will hear is nature. You almost feel guilty for talking and breaking the silence. Sweeneys offers a Riding Ranch at Scenic Hills. They were very polite and encouraged me to get on the horse. My horse's name was Bella and she was very gentle. They put my partner on Bella's lover, so we both could ride along as our horses had a strong attraction. It started very cosily and I soon got comfortable on Bella. Being on a horse for the first time, I learn't how to pat her with my heels to go faster or slow down using the reins. Clearly, I didn't master the art as Bella just kept following her sweetheart and gently ignored my commands. We went on a long trail ride over an hour and you begin enjoying the ride almost immediately. The farm is very pretty and the guide takes you over hills and slopes, which is fun and surprising to discover a lake in the middle of nowhere. The farm has over 100 horses and they do offer experienced trail riders the opportunity to Gallop.

Here's what I don't remember from being a kid... 1 - Horses are really tall and you can feel quite high up (which can be scary) 2- When they gallop, its feels very fast and if you're not feeling very confident it can be nerve wracking... 3 - They have mind of their own and they can and will react to things whether you like it or not.... Although I liked being in stables, patting horses and feeding them I've come to realise as an adult I'm quite a scaredy cat - and I do find it embarrassing when 4 year olds trot past with no fear.... I would definitely recommend this stable to learn at - great teachers and facilities - it just might not be as "fun" as when you were a kid....

No matter whether you're male or female, tall or short, young or old there will be a package and horse that will accommodate your wishes. Perfectly located central to the city, this is a country escape without the excessive driving. If you're scared, this is a good place to start to take small steps until you're comfortable. If you're a mother, you can take your for children under five years of age, to be led on pony rides which are available for 1 hour slots. I wouldn't recommend getting addicted to horse riding unless you have the financial capacity to treat yourself to a horse ride often, as addictions go, this is a costly one. Although if you just want a romantic ride around for an hour or so, very slowly around Centennial Park, you can do this without any experience, by yourself or with a group.

I quickly contacted the phone number written on the brochure since it was Saturday morning and the ad said bookings needed to be made in advance. Margaret, the lady who picked up the phone was helpful and informative, asked how old my kids were, she then recommended half hour Pony Rides. The payment was taken over the phone to secure the booking. The location wasn't exactly convenient, but how can you complain when you're surrounded with beautiful view. The staff were friendly and helpful. After helmet fitting, my kids were introduced to their ponies. My daughter gets to ride Cherokee, a half pony and half horse and halfway through we saw a group of wild kangaroos hanging around the area so close to us. They also do horse riding for adults. They even have accomodation and farm animals on-site filled with happy sheep and goats. Overall the whole experience was so memorable and one I would definitely go back to, just to see those smiles on my kids' face again. Priceless!
