The hernia was about 10 mm which is huge relative to the space your spinal cord and Dura need and was pressing directly on the spinal cord. After reviewing the MRIs, I was advised urgent surgery was needed. Since I could see the progression and was living with the scary negative trend with my leg strength, waning, I was eager for the surgery. Dr. Lopez told my wife after the surgery that every aspect of the surgery went better than he had anticipated and that he knew I was better already. I was able to walk out of the hospital same day and was so grateful for a reversal of what could've been a dire situation. Although I still have some lingering neurologic sensations in my legs. This is not unusual as nerves can heal at very different rates, but I can say after five months I am nearly back to normal, my experience with Midwest orthopedics, Dr. Lopez and his staff has been nothing but positive. During the investigation of my spine, it was also duly noted that I will likely need ACDF surgery as well and I have symptoms of severe radiculopathy. I have scheduled surgery with Dr Lopez and have all the confidence that my outcome will be outstanding as it was for my thoracic spine surgery. I included a picture of the surgical site the day after my surgery. A life changing surgery through such a small opening. I did feel like I wanted an opportunity to review my cervical MRI results and get a better understanding of why surgery was indicated and so I made an appointment with Dr. Lopez and had this discussion,-and decided to move forward with the surgery. Example 1: Pushing a 12 course chiropractic treatment on a young adult with no history of back problems and no current complaints of pain. What does she get out of it? A recurring source of income from trusting patients who don't know any better. Example 2: She pushes incredibly expensive and high doses of vitamin D for those with no risk factors and no symptoms. Why would she do this? Again, money. She was pushing her own personal brand of vitamin D that exceeds 100,000 IU. She wanted me to take 200,000 IU a day, just to up my serum levels. This is pointless as the body can only absorb a limited amount a day, and you only need a regular maintenance dose of 800 IUD per day. When I asked her why anyone would need 200x the regular dosage, she said the latest research shows that the body needs many times the regular dose. When I questioned that by researching the original source. I found that it was published by the vitaminD council, and Mercola. Both of these sources are proponents of controversial alternative medicine, aka quacks who have no business being doctors. All they want is money, and that's all Dr. Arina Chapman wants from you. Find someone else that is cheaper, and who is not a quack who pushes snake oil.
