They get their parts from an outlet directly opposite so don't usually have to wait on a delivery. It is a family run business so you are more likely to get a good service than some of the larger chains. I have marked it as 4* only because of where it is - just off the roundabout at the Old Village. You either need to get a lift or take a book - there are no cafe's etc in the vicinity so you have nothing to do while they work on your car.

Really nice, genuine guy who doesn't try to upsell, who charged me a really fair price for front axle discs and pads fitting (which I supplied). The front n/s caliper had rusted, so Steve sourced a replacement by the following morning after a phone consultation (he happily showed me the old part to show me its poor condition). The sort of trustworthy local mechanic who will tell you what you need to keep an eye on without being pushy about additional work, and who even freed up a n/s rear seized rear brake cylinder for no extra charge. Great attention to detail, as he noticed some issues with the car which were down as advisories on previous MOTs, but which hadn't been picked up on this time! I'll be going back if I have any future problems for sure.

I went to BB Motors in 2007 to have my car MOT'd where it failed on headlamp aim and emissions. The…read moreowner of the garage told me that I would require a new lamba sensor and a new headlamp and quoted me just under £200 to carry out the work. Alarm bells began to ring in my head when he told me that I would need a new headlamp as I fortunately was aware that the headlamp aim is easy to adjust and certainly doesn't require a whole new headlamp to correct the fault. He was also rather abrupt when I asked if a new lamba sensor would sort out the emissions. He said he didn't know and that "I might as well ask him what the weather would be like next week", while a rather uninspiring young "mechanic" who was present during this conversation stood there smirking. Needless to say I didn't have much faith in the competance or the honesty of this rude little man or the rest of his motley crew so my car was rapidly withdrawn from their premises. I took my car into another garage who confirmed that my current headlamp was perfectly good and only required a small tweak to its' aim, which they did for £4. They also informed me that a lot of cars fail on emissions because getting a car up to operating temperature by leaving it idling for a few minutes (which is what many MOT testers do) is often insufficent for older cars, and that I should take it for a fifteen mile run including some high speed driving at higher revs than I would normally drive at immediately before the retest. I did what this garage recommended and the emissions passed the retest without a hitch. It cost me £4 to get my car through the retest. BB Motors wanted just under £200, and couldn't rule out more work being required to get the car through the emissions test. I think that says all you need to know about this shabby little garage.

My bad experience of using this garage occurred in 2007, when I booked my car in for an MOT. I've…read moreposted this before on other sites, but a tale of service this bad is always worth repeating for those who haven't read it. I know that this happened four years ago, but it's still under the same ownership, so I doubt much has changed since I used them. BB motors didn't actually carry out the MOT (which is quite normal) they took it down the road to the now defunct KIA main dealer who did the test and then BB motors would carry out any corrective work. Anyway, all normal so far. I get a call later in the day to advise me that the car had failed on emissions and the aim of one of the headlamps was too high, and they advise that they carry out a diagnostic check to see if this showed any reason for the high emissions. I agreed to this and asked that if the corrective work was going to be greater than £200 could they let me know before they carried out any repairs so that I could decide if it was worth me keeping the car or not. Despite them saying they would keep me informed I still hadn't had any update twenty four hours later so I decided to drop in to BB to see what was happening. The "proprietor" tells me, in quite an abrupt manner, that as the repairs would cost more than £200 they had stopped work on the car as I had asked. I enquire what they were going to do to correct the emissions and he says the first course of action was to replace the Co2 sensor.I then asked if this would correct the emission level and he told me there was no guarantee this would work (which is fair enough, as I know high emissions can have several causes), but then very rudely added that I might as well ask him "what the weather will be like next week". A younger "mechanic" who was present during this conversation was looking at me with a smirk and was shaking his head as if I had just asked the most brainless question in the world. I was totally stunned at this response as at no point had I been anything other than polite. When paying a garage for their services is it really that unreasonable to ask for their professional opinion? It was only when he gave me a breakdown of the costs that I realised I had to remove the car from their premises and find another garage. He wanted £90 odd pounds to replace the headlamp???? Although I hadn't been driving very long at this time (a point no doubt picked up on by the "mechanics" at BB) I knew that a misaligned headlamp is easily fixed by using its adjuster. A few minutes later I had paid the bill for the diagnostic test and I was driving the car home and deciding to visit another garage who had been recommended by a car enthusiast workmate. Two days later I have the car looked at by the garage that had been recommended to me. The mechanic confirmed that my headlamp was fine and only required a tweak to adjust its alignment. It took literally seconds for him to do this and only cost £4, so much for BB motors wanting £90+ to replace the whole unit. His advice on the emissions was to book the retest at the KIA garage myself, and to take the car for a good run immediately prior to the test. He also advised that I find a road where I can drive at 70mph in a lower gear than normal to ensure that the catalytic converter was red hot. He told me that replacing components to reduce emissions should only be considered when you're sure that the high levels aren't being caused because the system wasn't hot enough when the test was carried out. His opinion based on the readout from the emission test was that the KIA garage hadn't warmed the car up sufficiently, and that it was too early to start replacing things when all that's probably required is a good fast run to get things up to operating temperature. How refreshing to have a mechanic take the time to give me good advice after the patronizing rudeness of BB Motors. I had the car retested after following this mechanics advice and the car passed it's MOT without a problem. No replacement headlamp required, no replacement Co2 sensor required (and BB said a new Co2 sensor sorting the emissions was the best case scenario). Just a £4 tweak to the lamps aim and a good blast on a dual carriageway was all that was needed. I find the attitude of BB Motors mystifying. They portray themselves as MG Rover specialists (my car was a Rover) and they have some glowing reports on the (very good) MG Rover online community. I also noticed some nice cars being serviced on their premises so clearly there are people who rate them, but they were by far the worst garage I have had the misfortune to use. I can't help thinking that had they not been so rude to me, and had I not been aware that they were clearly trying to rip me off regarding the headlamp, I would probably have given BB motors the go ahead to proceed in blissful ignorance that I was paying for work that didn't need to be, and probably wouldn't have been, done.
