My step-son and I visited a few times. I never had a cut by Benny, the main barber. The other barbers are certainly decent, but my main issue is cleanliness. The place is pretty dingey, especially as you move back in the place. The last chair is simply gross. well, where do I start? I went to Benny and his barbers when I cheated on my previous NYC-based barber after I stopped commuting into the city. I never regretted doing so. Benny is highly skilled, runs his shop like a well-oiled machine and never loses sight of who is next even when lines are out the door (pre-Covid). I have been going to Benny at Central Barber for about 5 years. I had heard about Benny from other positive reviews that he was particularly good with men with fine and/or thinning hair. He really has had the skill to make the most of my thinning hair over all this time, and I wouldn't go to anyone else. There's a parking lot across the street that has free parking on the very top level on Saturdays and Sundays, which is a plus. During the week I have had no trouble finding meters - they all take quarters. This business also has a senior discount that I was able to take advantage of. I highly recommend Benny if your hair is a bit on the lean side and you don't want it to look like a comb over. He has been using masks during COVID so I have felt very safe there as a senior. Now with everybody getting vaccinated, it's even safer. read more

I actually really liked this place and have been about a dozen times but stay away from the heavy set guy- he's super rough and really beat by neck up pretty good with the razon despite an otherwise decent haircut. I don't know about the other barbers, but don't ever go to the big guy in the back. I don't even know his name...you can't miss him. It was my first time going there, and last. He completely butchered my hair. I asked for a combover and he gave me a combover you would give a bald person in denial (I have a full head of hair!) half my head is long and the other is short. Messy lines, overall shit jo Like I said I don't know about the others, but this guy sucks. **UPDATE** The owner of the shop, Benny, reached out to me and asked me to allow him to make things right. I took him up on the offer and he fixed the haircut properly. I really appreciated his customer service and willingness to make things right. He also gave me a refund which was greatly appreciated. Always well-staffed so there is rarely a long wait. All the barbers are professional, courteous and well-trained. I've been there on numerous occasions and have no hesitations about getting a cut from the first available barber. This is one of the few barbershops in the area that's open on Sundays so that's also very convenient. It may be challenging to find street parking on Saturdays but there is a parking garage at the end of Rockledge rd. and it's free on Sundays. It's $20 (before tip) for a regular cut so it's not the cheapest place but considering the location and professional staff, it's a fair price to pay. read more

Second time there but won't be going back. Had let my hair grow out for a year and went to get just a trim. Specifically said only bottom of ear lobe to be showing and hair in back to remain over the collar. NOPE and NOPE. I am nearsighted and barber had me take off glasses to work so didn't realize till WAY too late. Hair cut completely over the ears and at least two inches above my collar level. WHAT THE F#$%! I was one of the first to go to Central Barber when it reopened. It was my first time. I live in Hartsdale but since I worked in Manhattan it was actually convenient to go during working hours. Now with me on the verge of retirement, I wanted to stay local. I read the Yelp reviews and decided to stop in and get my haircut from Benny, the owner. All safety procedures were in place. Benny gave me a great haircut! 100% scissor cut. As a senior citizen that's what I was accustomed to. He's totally professional, and personable , also. I waited 1 week before writing this review because I wanted to see how my hair grew in. It was combing out perfectly ! It's great to know I now have a local barber that is so good at what he does. Let me start out by saying I rarely... and I mean rarely, write reviews. Only when a business really stands out for excellent service, product, and convenience is when I MIGHT consider writing a review. I moved to Westchester County a year or so ago, and have been going from barber shop to barber shop, trying to find a barber who knows what they're doing with a pair of clippers and a set of buzzers. I looked up reviews on Yelp, and I decided to give this place a try. I drove up without an appointment, and when I went in, I noticed the place was actually smaller than I thought (even the sign looked a lot bigger in the pictures). It was nothing to complain or praise, just an observation. It was clean, simple, a TV by the waiting area, and four barbers with busy with clients. Nayeli was next up. I rarely had females cut my hair (nothing against female barbers, the places I've always gone to just always had male barbers). So I went for it and thought "why not." Friendly, attentive, and boy does she know what she's doing. I've had two cuts with her so far, she remembered me the second time, and didn't fail to impress when she was done with my hair. She was amazing at what she did, and she was genuine with her opinion with what works and what doesn't. Turns out a couple of the guys at work have been going to this place for a while, and wouldn't stop talking about how great Nayeli was, and how I have to try out Benny, as he was the one that apparently runs the show there. Third time I went was pretty late; it was 15 minutes before they closed. The place was packed It was Friday night... I guess the fellas wanted to clean up fresh before going out for the night. Nayeli was busy with customers, and so instead of waiting around (I didn't want to keep them open past their closing time), a bearded man on the first chair asked "Sir, are you ready?" It turned out to be the man himself, Benny. Very humble, soft-spoken, yet very comfortable and confident in his craft. I started growing a beard between my cut with Nayeli and my soon-to-be first cut with Benny. Benny asked a couple of questions about what I had last time, and I turned to Nayeli. She even remembered what length the clipper was at, how she cut the top, and commented about the beard not being there before. What a memory! Then he went to work. He was quick, yet incredible. Detailed, knew exactly how to fade my sides to work with my profile, and even blended the beard perfectly to the side burns. He even offered to line it up, and it was perfect. I thanked him, and thanked Nayeli for remembering what I did last time, and promised him a review on Yelp, since this is how I found them in the first place. The prices they have are VERY, very reasonable for the area they're in and the quality of service and attentiveness they provide. No frills, just great cuts, a talented staff, and great service. Those are attributes which men are really looking for in a good barbershop. They will have my business every time I need a cut as long as both of them are still there. My go to barber shop was in Brooklyn of 10 years This place took me 2 years to find after visiting several barber shops in queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn. After becoming a new dad, I realized I couldn't make that trip any more and needed to find a place closer to home. But I tried many places that were highly rated on yelp and none did the trick. I guess I had experiences living in the city where there are barber shops (Astoria) 2 per block in some sections, so I guess you have to be good to stay in business. I tried the another shop that was on the top list near the river towns but I was not impressed. They left me with hair all over my face and clothes plus they don't use the straight edge razor. They did an ok job but not the service I was looking for. Being very particular about my appearance and which barbers I select, I decided to give Central Barber Shop a shot. I went into Central Barber shop and watched all the barbers perform their work. Every one was meticulous, every one used hot shaving cream and a straight edge razor. In the end I chose Benny to cut my hair. After a brief conversation about what I was looking to do, Benny made sure I was satisfied with my hair cut throughout the way thus ensuring I got the cut I was looking for. This is the type of service I am used to. He did an even better job than my barber in Brooklyn and after 5 visits every two weeks, Benny will be my barber for now on. $17.00 for a haircut is an average for westchester pricing Update! 01/02/2014 Still my go to barber shop for over 5 months!Still takes his time every time! Update - what you need to know. Over the years, the biggest change I've observed - has been in the staff. Outside of Benny, you could count on maybe just one other talent. This has changed. The shop is staffed, stocked with skilled, talented barbers. Which to cap on my point earlier, was something missed in the past. Lately, a barber named, Lorenzo, has cut my hair. He is someone I definitely recommend, though; you wouldn't be disappointed in any barber seat you happen to pick that day. I have been getting my haircut by Benny at Central Barber for a little over a year now, and frankly this review is long overdue. Growing up in the Hartsdale/Scarsdale area I never really found a place I liked to get my hair cut. The "salons" were too expensive and too...precious and the local barber shops couldn't handle anything that didn't involve clippers. I acquiesced throughout high school receiving bad hair cuts I was never really happy with but having moved back to the area 2 years ago I knew I had to get this figure out once and for all. I spent the first 12 months bouncing around to the same mediocre barber shops and overpriced salons, sometimes driving significant distances around Westchester to try somewhere new in the hope of finding a barber who wouldn't leave me disappointed. Then I stumbled upon Benny at Central Barber, literally right under my nose in Hartsdale, and I haven't considered going anywhere else since. The all-scissor cut resulted in the traditional haircut i've been looking for all along. After a few times going to Benny he learned all the nuances of my hair, which is numerous with various cowlicks, and now I know I can trust him to cut my hair just right by confirming, "same as last time". tl;dr - Benny and Central Avenue barber is the best barber shop in the area and I couldn't give a stronger recommendation to him and his shop. read more

This is easily the best barber shop I've been to in Westchester. To be fair, I've only had my hair cut by Benny, but my other friends have all enjoyed their experiences at Central Barber regardless of the person behind the chair. I'm very particular about my haircuts, and Benny has done exceptional work each time. This is a great place to get a cut regardless of age. The barbers here can skillfully execute any demands. I recently moved to the Bronx, and have yet to feel comfortable with a barber in my neighborhood, and refuse to fork over 40 dollars for a haircut in Manhattan. Needless to say, I ventured out into Westchester and stumbled upon Central Barber Shop. I was a little miffed by the street parking situation--meters everywhere and they only accept quarters. But there's a municipal garage two blocks away with a change machine and everything. Anyway, I arrive at the shop. It's basic, but clean. I'm seated immediately by a gentleman whose name I didn't catch. I explain the haircut I want and he gives me exactly that in under 15 minutes. I'm still kind of stunned with how satisfied I am with the cut and with how quickly he executed it. He didn't sacrifice quality or precision either. I've definitely had worse haircuts with stylists that take 30+ minutes. He also struck a great balance between conversation and focusing on cutting my hair. Price wasn't bad either--18 bucks.
