Speaking from experience I have volunteered for almost an entire year and I found that they have the desired individuals and it was clear that my son is not welcomed but just there as a body throughout his middle and partial high school year, he was never further away from god and people until he found safety comfort and LOVE at a real church, not one that only cares about numbers, money and their own insecure and deeply flawed views of a child or god. We were able to borrow a vehicle and tonight happened to be Baptism night. The new campus Pastor for Woodbury is a very personable guy. He was fun, energetic, and engaged with us perfectly. It was very natural for him and you can tell he is sincere. The worship band is amazing, and I love that they also play popular songs that are on Christian radio. The worship music during the baptism was refreshing and all the songs were amazing. Even if it wasn't planned for someone to get baptized and they wanted to tonight, they offered clothes, shoes, make up, hair dyers, etc for those who weren't prepared. It was very accommodating. After about an hour of baptisms, people started getting up to leave and there was a small crowd of us left. The band was playing worship songs that made you sing your lungs out and it was like being at a concert. The Holy Spirit was SO strong tonight, I teared up many times. There was a total of 30ish people left for the last few to get baptized and it was like Jesus was putting a show on for us tonight. His presence was felt and it was a beautiful night. This was truly one of my best experiences at eagle Brook. We had been craving to worship, praying to be able to worship tonight and we got a whole hour and some to worship him. Thank you for an unforgettable night. The band did absolutely amazing.

There is a Women's Group that meets once a month. The topics are different each month. Mens Group meets for breakfast once a month and also has topics that interest them. Bible Adventures is for the youth and it is creative playing along with learning and having fun doing it. Youth Groups for Junior and Senior High is available. There are many more groups that you could belong to, along with Ministry Boards that you could become a member of and introduce new ideas. The time spent here is well worth it for the amount of kids program they have available throughout the year. They have a contemporary and traditional services on Sunday at 9am and 10:30 which is family friendly. They have kids Wednesday night workship for kids called KWAM. They have 3 different service times for Christmas Eve workship that are family friendly at 3 and 4pm and then a candlelight at 9pm. Definitely recommend checking them out.

I'm an active Lutheran that recently located to St Paul. Since my arrival, I've explored nearby…read morechurches looking for a home congregation. I might have found my place at Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol Hill. I enjoy the combination of stained glass and graffiti that greets visitors -- along with a seemingly endless line of friendly church members. Christ Lutheran offers a hymn-filled traditional service that takes full advantage of the pipe organ featured in the Church's balcony. Contemporary elements added to the service include Gospel readings in Khmer, Tigrinia and English -- and a Cambodian Melody arrangement of the Lord's Prayer. The Hymns incorporated also tend to be newer, familiar ones -- such as 'Gather Us In' and 'We are Marching in the Light.' Everyone is invited to participate in communion, which featured ethnic, homemade bread during my visit. Christ Lutheran has on-site parking. It's also on the Green Line, making it easy to get to by train.The Chapel is large and filled with friendly people of all ages and cultures. If you're new to Lutheran Churches, be prepared for 'Passing of the Peace' where you have an opportunity to greet and shake hands with other members. This portion of the service feels like what you'd experience at a small church -- individuals walk throughout the church to greet others and hug friends. Even as a new visitor, I wasn't excluded from a tidal wave of handshakes and greetings. I'll likely make CLC on Capitol Hill my home congregation and explore other churches in the Twin Cities for occassional, contemporary offerings.

This is my church. I've been going here for a couple of years now. We share the church building…read morewith two other congregations - one United Church of Christ (UCC) and the other Disciples of Christ. We trade around sanctuaries every few weeks. After going to a great UCC church in Somerville Massachusetts (shout out to First Church!) it was important to me to find a church that was (a) radically welcoming and (b) acting in a Christian community that was bigger and broader than just other ELCA Lutheran churches nearby. The church is radically welcoming. There is a strong legacy of being tuned into GLBT issues. Our previous minister (who moved on to be lead pastor of a University Church) was selected as our minister even though, at the time, it was not permitted by our denomination (ELCA) because she was lesbian and refused to abide by the church's then-current policy on human sexuality. This congregation helped push the ELCA, which is now, if not welcoming to the queer community, is at least openly confused about what to do with GLBT issues. (Our new minister, by the way, is also great. I swear she could give a great sermon in her sleep.) The membership is of kind of two generations. There are a lot of older folks, who disproportionately attend the early service at 8:30. Do not be fooled by their age and curly old lady hair - these are awesome people who stuck with the church through some really tough spots. They are engaged, open minded, and deeply loving. There are also younger folks who were attracted by the church's radically welcoming message. You'll see more of them if you come to the second service at 10:30. The generations mingle during adult ed between the services, at volunteer events, etc. The church right now is focused on trying to live out - to identify needs in the community and respond to them. Some of our focuses are environmental issues (we've adopted a nearby section of the greenway) and the refugee crisis (all three churches recently voted to become sanctuary supporting). We also do normal Lutheran church volunteering like Feed my Starving Children and Open Arms Minnesota on a regular basis.

This church was kind to me and my family, and was a good place to learn a lot of good things, but they don't do community particularly well. When I graduated from Seminary and asked for the chance to volunteer and get involved, it was very difficult to earn their trust. There are a lot of good things about this church, and it was a privilege to attend. Unfortunately I was in the membership process for over 2 years and was never able to get through the process. The leadership was very slow and unresponsive in this respect. Ultimately we moved on as God led us.

I began attending Bethlehem Baptist Church about 6 months ago. The congregation is diverse: a wide…read morerange of ages, people groups, and races attend the church. John Piper has been the lead pastor for 30-plus years, and he will be transitioning out of that role at the end of 2012. Jason Meyer will take over in 2013 as the teaching pastor, and all indications are that Meyer will provide excellent leadership to this congregation for many years to come. While the church is large (multiple campuses throughout the Twin Cities), you will be welcomed in with open arms upon visiting any of the campuses. The downtown campus has a large, wide-open foyer where the congregation socializes before and after church services. For the coffee drinkers and pastry-eaters out there (doesn't that make 99% of us?), you'll be infinitely grateful for the free coffee (replete with Splenda and cream) and freshly-baked pastry items available after the 9 am service on Sunday mornings. The Bible is the core of all teaching and ministry at BBC. In today's postmodern culture, it's refreshing to hear passionate sermons centered on gospel truth. There is no shortage of challenging teaching and real, raw relationships at BBC. Lastly, since the church is so large, I recommend immediately getting involved with a small group. The church website has a great tool to find small groups that fit with your schedule and location in the Twin Cities.
