Oversized gold doorknobs gleamed from the light of the half-drawn windows. Signed portraits from FDR, Truman, Teddy Roosevelt, and Herbert Hoover expressed their friendly regards for the Bair family. The visitor center featured paintings from Edith Freeman (on loan from the Yellowstone Art Museum), C.M. Russell, Eduardo Cortes, and others. Early 20th century Navajo blankets hung in glass cases. Sheep baron Charles Bair mingled with the likes of western icons such as Will Rogers and C.M. Russell. His house embodies his (and his family's) lavish taste.

There is indeed the E57B boxcab engine which is on a street corner in the town, a unique locomotive. Highly recommend if you are interested in the history of "America's Resourceful Railroad".

This is a great place for people interested in Harlowton's rich train history…read more Harlowton, as I understand it, had a roundhouse and a large yard to support the Milwaukee Road's electrified train route across the Rocky Mountains. My grandfather spent many years helping to restore the building before the Museum was finally established. I even helped with some of the restoration and upkeep. Just up the road there is also the E57B engine which I just helped repaint this year. The depot and the engine look really nice and its nice to see the town support and keep up the restoration of these historical pieces.
