For a start it's in Queenstown, and nowhere on Earth is there anything as spectacular as the little town on Lake Whykikamoocow under the Remarkables. I'm so glad Gen Y didn't find the 'Remarks' or they would be called 'The Like, Awsomes' Second it is authentic. It used to be a Dairy until a couple of blokes did it up and turned it into a boutique hotel. Its got history and class. To burn. Third, its now run by two of the nicest people you will ever meet even if one of them is a Kiwi. Hi Bevan! BTW, how did you get so lucky as to marry a gorgeous Aussie like Kim? CarnthaWallabies. Nothing is a problem. Every whim is their command. The view from our room was better than TV. We just sat and looked out the window. After a day's skiing we would fall into the hot tub and Kim would bring us champagne flutes and an ice bucket. Fresh towels and robes provided. The location is perfect. Walking distance to ski field buses, and the middle of town is a two minute roll down the hill, but its still quiet enough that you can't hear the Irish and Pommy backpackers at two in the morning, a problem in others Hotels, or so I heard on a chairlift. The brekky is touted as a feature on other review sites and rightly so. It is drop dead fantastic and it means you don't need lunch - which for me is extraordinary. I don't know what they have done to their pigs in the Shaky Isles but my God they make super bacon! And Elvis is always happy to load a few more rashers on board. With a smile and a chat. A very cool guy indeed. With a car that has been diagnosed as a 'ticking time bomb' which he drives to the ski fields. Brave man, I assure you. Driving to The Remarkables is like a double black run for experts only! Afternoon tea in front of a cracking open fire is wonderful. Little home made cakes and scones, or so Keeno tells me - I was having a nap at that time of day. Or Skiing. Thats the thing about this place, its just so friendly. Everyone is blissed out, just enjoying the town and the hospitality. I reckon that The Dairy is the new benchmark for hospitality. The rooms are great, the bathrooms are spotless and the hot water is strong and endless. I tested it. Wi Fi is amazingly quick and trouble free. I heard our American friends Brittany and Andrew thank Bevan and Kim for helping with their heli hiking, bungy jumping, jet boating, and glacier flights. Our Brazilian neighbours could be seen wandering around the Library and just staring into the distance. Bevan recommended some places to eat, most of which I had already found on Yilp***, with the notable exceptions of Belle Cucina and Eichardts. That Eichardt recommendation in itself earned him hero status with me. At least until the World Cup. What a place! There was also *surprise* happy hour from 6-7! Beer and wine. It was nice to sit in front of their cozy fire and chitchat with other guests while enjoying generous pours. The views were lovely and I just couldn't get enough of the bathroom- the ceiling was a skylight- a giant window letting natural light in and the floors were heated. My only complaints were that all the buttons for the light switches were hard to figure out, the noise from the outside road (and the drunks yelling at night as they walked by) would wake me and there were no USB plugs in the room. The alarm clock had 2, but for whatever reason would beep constantly when plugged in. We couldn't stand the beeping so we unplugged it. We tried resetting the clock and everything. When we looked up the clock online for a fix, it said it was a known issue. Hmmmm Other than those minor things it was perfect- even cake balls waiting in our room upon our arrival! Oh! I was also excited to sit in the soaker tubs with that view, but the view was also a big crane with construction workers moving about, not as intimate as I envisioned. Once the construction is over, it's a perfect place, until then, not worth the amount I paid for a view. I gave it 4 stars because it's a quality place just not a great time to have chosen it.

They are happy to help if you need. The rooms are a bit tired looking. It's probably been a few decades since the decor has been refreshed. There's coffee and tea in the room. The bed is comfortable but the pillows aren't. USB ports would be a great addition these days. WiFi is free for guests, so that's great. Breakfast is nice. There's a omelette station and multiple hot options. Various breads, pastries, and few weird ethnic options (like miso soup and chow mein). I do love the apple juicer. Takes a bit of work, but it's fun. Staff is friendly and everyone is happy to help when you need it.

It took about 5 minutes to get to the heart of shopping centers, restaurants, and cruise ships. Room seemed so nice and clean. Not that we used it, but we were surprised that there was a bathtub - first one after 15 days in Australia! And ... a first for us: Heated towel rack! Oooh, on a cold day or after a shower, it feels so good against the skin! One item that is missing are electrical outlets near the beds - they're across the room! Why doesn't a hotel place electrical outlets by each bedside? Another problem: if you are using an electrical converter, many of the outlets are very close to the "On/Off" button, so if you push the converter too high and/or high, it's turned off! You'd think that the "On/Off" button would be positioned higher so the electrical converter would affect it, Breakfast was about 'normal' for hotel - nothing unusual or outstanding. Service people were very friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed the Dilmah tea and surprisingly good instant coffee. The sofa and coffee table, as well as the dining table, were also nice to have. The only issue we had was with with water getting all over the bathroom floor once when we weren't careful about ensuring the shower curtain was drawn all the way shut and fully inside the shower stall - be careful about that! The front desk staff was polite and efficient, though they weren't willing to help us book tours and directed us to the downtown tourist info centers instead. One frustrating thing was that they only gave us 500MB of free internet for our 3 night stay - we would have much preferred unlimited internet. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend Blue Peaks Lodge!

Parking was weird and confusing -- there are a couple of narrow cul-de-sacs for parking on the property, and you end up parking directly in front of your unit's sliding glass door entrance, so it becomes cumbersome to wiggle in and out of your unit when the car park is full. A bit strange. There's an easy 10-minute walk into the heart of Queenstown, but be aware you go down a steep hill on your way into town, so returning to your unit up the steep hill may be a challenge for people who are not physically able. Even so, I think it's a decent place to stay if you want a good location and plenty of space and aren't concerned about wanting things like sleek modern appliances and trendy decor.
