We are prepping our place for sale, and this company was responsive, well priced and very professional. We got three bids to paint our 850 square foot condo interior walls and trim, they were solidly in the middle price-wise and we are glad to have picked them. David was careful and detailed in his quote (and we were worried that the low bid had not really thought through the job and would hit us with extra costs). I visited while they were working and he had a crew of four in there doing careful and detailed work. They finished well ahead of time and at budget and did a few extra things (not technically in their scope) just to make it all look better. They broke a small cheap light fixture at one point but immediately called to report it and ultimately replaced it at no cost to us, including installation. We actually also had an issue with how the paint dried the first time, however - when David found out about it (one of the buckets of paint had the wrong sheen), he and his foreman came and resolved it IMMEDIATELY even though we had already paid him in full, so he could easily have ignored us. And that "immediately" was from 9:00pm - Midnight on a Sunday night because our carpet installation was scheduled for the next day. Pretty unreal customer service actually - true professionals. Their actual work was detailed and careful, and the place looks great - I will upload photos once we get them back. To start, the quality was 5/5, not a single drop where it's not supposed to be, fast too. But this encounter was wildly inappropriate and unprofessional. Central Sound Painting was one of three painters we had out to our home to give us a quote to paint the inside of our house including 6 doors. The crux of this encounter is the doors, both of the other quotes we got included doors, but somehow they were left out of the bid and we did not discover this until after the job was "finished". Along with this a room in the house was somehow forgotten and unpainted. I brought this up to David(the owner/painter) and he claimed that the doors were not discussed nor included in the bid, we came to the agreement that $500 would be discounted from the bid price for the doors not being painted and that David would return the following day and finish the room that was forgotten. I ask David several times if this sounded fair to him and that I did not want to seem like I was taking advantage of him. He agreed to chalk it up to a circumstance of the bid (We were not given a detailed bid sheet, only a dollar amount written on his business card). We paid him the remainder of the bid amount and he stated that he would return the following day to finish the laundry room. The next day David came to the house, grabbed his tools and left. I received a text that we "Cheated him" and that we "Screwed him over". I responded that the only person being cheated was me because we had made an agreement that he was walking out on (After being given the rest of the payment for the job). I also pointed out that I had asked him SEVERAL times if the deal sounded fair to him as I did not want him to feel slighted. His only responses were "B*lls**t" and "F you" David then blocked my number, I used my wife's phone to text him and offered the $500 we agreed on back if he would return to finish painting the room that was forgotten and he blocked that one too. After contacting him with a 3rd phone number and threatening to call the police, file a report with the BBB and his bond I finally received a phone call back. David started the phone call with yelling at me about how dare I threaten him and sent a number of foul words and insults at me, and denying my wife's memory of the events claiming that she was not present during the bid (We can all be seen together on my security cameras). After about 5 minutes of arguing and yelling back and forth he finally agreed to finish the forgotten room if we paid him back the $500 we previously agreed on as a discount. The following day we all met at my house and David finished the forgotten room, we gave each other half-hearted apologies and agreed that this blew way out of proportions. Some advice Central Sound Painting, use your words next time. If you don't like something, say something. Don't just agree and do differently once their backs are turned and their money is in your hands. What you did was extremely dishonest and legally theft. read more

His attention to detail is immaculate and makes sure every nook and cranny is given attention. This exterior job was "tricky" considering the awful smoke and also being in a pandemic. To prevent the need from coming in/out of the house for bathroom needs, he arranged for a honey bucket. Even on the worst of the polluted days, he showed up on time and took care of business. David did a great job on our house but refused to complete the work after not taking accurate bid notes and missing an entire room and all of the doors we had agreed on. We came to an agreement and he said he would paint the room and give us a discount for not doing the doors. I had Central Sound Painting come and paint the exterior of my house this summer. I couldn't be happier with the result. David (owner) came out and gave me a written estimate after listening to my thoughts, concerns, etc. He encouraged me to paint a couple of small swaths of paints (we couldn't decide whether to do a slate blue or a shade of green) on the back of the house to see what color we liked best. He had helpful advice when I asked about various things, but always left the choice clearly to me. When it came time to paint, he did quality work that I am very pleased with. We recently had David and his crew paint the entire exterior of our new house. Here are the two most important things you need to know about David: 1) HE IS A CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONAL. He tells the truth and explains things clearly. He doesn't cut corners -- I think something inside him would snap if he ever did. He preps jobs as though the house were his own, and he drives his team to perform at the same high level he expects of himself. On bidding, he bids fairly and is transparent. For example, another painter told me David's bid was a corner-cutting bid because he only bid on one coat on the trim, but David explained that he bids what he thinks will cover, and that was one coat in our case. If it needed more, he would do more, but he wasn't going to bid a second coat when he didn't think it would be necessary. 2) HE IS A PERFECTIONIST. This means he is the guy you want painting your house! Look at how he carries himself when he comes to give you a bid. I'm serious. His hair and beard are neatly trimmed, he stands upright, he's thoughtful and deliberate in what he says. Not what I was expecting from a painter, to be honest. And when he came to do the job, the same qualities translated to his work. He totally got in the zone and was identifying every little thing his crew had missed. "You need to put some primer on that," The tape on this corner isn't straight enough," etc. Everything else was good, and we're very happy with the quality of the job. GREAT work by David! David bid it out, totally knew his stuff and was always willing to go the extra mile at a very fair price. I can be a difficult customer to please (detail oriented) but everything I wanted and every question I had presented no difficulty to David. I had him spray some brand new interior trim, there was a seam in the baseboard on a long wall. He provided a very reasonable and competitive bid. He performs the work himself and hand scraped, pressure washed, primed, painted and even did little extras like the frame for my house numbers and mail box. The exterior house painting project started out well but the final outcome was not good. David didn't take notes or listen carefully, mistakes were made that resulted in damage to our property. Communication was poor. We will have to re-paint several sides of the house ourselves or hire another painter. Lack of ownership and willingness to make things right. There was clean-up we had to do ourselves removing tape, power washing, picking up debris. He ruined the clear cedar in the carport. The so called warranty doesn't exist. read more

Approximately a year ago (July, 2015) we decided to re-stain the cedar siding on our custom home in Issaquah, including the decks, exterior door and window frames, etc.. We contacted three experienced painting contractors, including Central Sound (David Vanetten). All three carefully explained that with siding and wood work of this quality, the proper and preferred way to stain the siding was to brush back the stain board-by-board immediately after it was sprayed on. This was the unanimous opinion expressed by all three contractors. Central Sound's bid came in at 8k + tax, well below the other bids. Based largely on the cost differential, we chose Central Sound (Vanetten), notwithstanding that he advised us that could only do a job of this length (he mentioned 8 or 9 days) if we could wait a year until July, 2016. We agreed. After power washing the exterior on the first day, Vanetten made it clear to us that he simply intended to spray on the stain without any back brushing. Just to make certain that we somehow hadn't misunderstood how the job should be done, we called the local. Sherwood-Williams store to see whether back brushing was indeed essential. We were assured again that it was. I recounted the foregoing to David Vanetten only to have him reiterate that he had no intention to back bruah.
