I have to say that this shopping centre is a bit of a maze. In fact it is a lot of a maze, meaning…read morethat it can be quite easy to end up getting lost in it. I guess this is what happens when shopping centres start off small and they just keep on adding more and more to it, until such a time as it is an absolute monstrosity, and you need a GPS to be able to wander around. Still, as a shopping centre it isn't too bad, and it has quite a good range of services, including a half decent pub.

Highly visible just as you take the turnoff from the Westgate freeway onto Millers Road, there's plenty of car parking spaces from the open air to the adjacent multiple level and (shudder) basement. I was there on a Saturday arvo, yes the one where it belted down with rain, and it was pretty full. AG isn't flash. It's actually pretty tired looking and could do with a huge revamp. Highly needed improvements include brighter and more lighting especially in the covered car park spaces and in the basement in addition to a new lick of paint and new tiling. But enough about improvements as that's bound to happen sometime hopefully. Onto the shops! You could say its main tenants are Kmart, Coles and Woolworths. There's a Dick Smith, Reject Shop, Best & Less, a food court and several ladies fashion shops too. You'll find a full listing of shops on their website (yes, AG may be daggy but it's going with the times) and there's a wicked " mostly" 2$ shop which I got several really useful and decent looking household items. Shhhh...don't tell anyone! I would warn you again that this isn't exactly a place to see and be seen BUT it has the shops you need to for day to day living all under one convenient roof and if you live nearby and don't want to trek to the other side of town. There's a Caltex Woolworths next door too and that one has the discounts on petrol AND gas. Further up Millers Road is are drive through Maccas and KFC. Further along you'll find an Autobarn, Subway and even further along a large format Bunnings Warehouse (ace) which I've been to a few times now and will post my review soon. Although my impressions of AG aren't exciting and I've rated it two stars, it's because I'm a visual person and have all my life been priviledged to have access to bigger better flashier places but it doesn't mean I won't return. It's still very popular with the locals and I would return again as I mentioned it's got all the day to day living shops under one roof. Be sure to check it their website for a full listing of shops. My review is just based on a first time ever visit and does not reflect all the businesses operating there nor the services they offer. I'm sure I'll warm up to it. Oh and parking is free.

It's the one-stop shop to do all the household items...Medicare, Australia Post, Kmart, Best and Less and Aldi to name a few. Free parking with food court on lower level has good variety of cuisines to choose from...just need Target now and I wouldn't be seen at Highpoint ever again. (Wishful thinking but you never know). No problem to get a park with exception to school holidays (it's everywhere!) and can get in to do what I want quickly and stress-free. Occasionally has problems with travelators broken down on one side and need to use lifts for trolleys, which take a very long time to travel 3 floors and back. P.s. Don't bother with the gym downstairs. With secure entry for 'members only' it is not inviting for new members. Someone came to the door after seeing me hover like an idiot trying to read the note on the door only to find no-one was actually in the gym and no programs available....work in progress apparently.

It has become one of my fave new suburbs to explore, and of course I started off at the place called Moonee Ponds Central!! (Where else would you go?) Situated at the corner of the junction, spanning over three spacious buildings from Hall street to Puckle street, and less than ten minutes walk from the train station, MPC shopping centre has everything you need, contained in an easy to navigate facility. Don't get me wrong, it's not the sort of place you'd forsake Highpoint, Chadstone or DFO for, but if you're in the area or new to it it's a great little find. Containing those evil necessary giants Kmart and Coles, the big banks NAB, Commonwealth and St George, a First Choice Liquor Store and a great variety of cafes, fresh food, beauty services, a 24 hour gym and fashion for the whole family. Even a division of Kangan TAFE is here!! As a mother with two young children, I find MPC has everything I need, plus the extras I enjoy in a convenient centre that's easy to navigate with a pram.

Shara's review was absolutely right on the money!…read more Moonee Ponds Central is a great little shopping centre about the same size as Barkly Square in Brunswick or Northcote Plaza in Northcote, except it has a few little bonuses that those two shopping centres dont have too! The most useful thing about MPC is the undercover car park!!! And its free parking too!!!! (the one next to Coles anyway - in the original MPC building). Not sure if the one under kmart is free or not. The undercover parking is perfect for supermarket shopping in wet weather. The centre also contains some other useful additions, including Michel's Pattiserie which gives away its pies and spinach rolls very cheap towards the end of the day and a very good chicken shop just outside the door of the northern building. The centre covers 3 buildings on the 3 streets parallel to and including Puckle Street and they contain clothing stores, food shops, kmart, Coles, a lolly shop and various shopping centre rides for the kids. In the old days, if you parked in the Coles carpark, then the walk to Puckle Street was boring, but now you have the centre to walk through and there are all sorts of interesting things in the shops to look at on the 2 minute walk to Puckle Street!!! As for the atmosphere, you wont find as many cool funky people here as you will in Barkly Square or Northcote Plaza (you will find some though - including myself!), but you wont find it a boring place full of bogans and suburbanites either. Its a bit of both. It is very down to earth and the shop keepers and checkout chicks always take the time to have a chat to the customers - which is a really nice touch! If you live anywhere near the area and havnt been in here, definitely come for a look - especially if it is raining!

If jewellery is your thing and you're on a tight budget, check out Lovisa. They have a great range of classic and cool styles. Much of it is a lot cheaper than their normal stores. Thanks to their outlet, I now own more pairs of earrings than I will probably ever wear. The Cotton On outlet is enormous. In addition to the standard Cotton On men's and women's ranges, they also stock sister brand Rubi Shoes. They often have cute shoes crazy cheap eg. 3 pairs for $10 deals are not uncommon. Look out for the cute $2 tote bags too. As the normal Strandbag stores are pretty reasonably priced the savings at the outlet don't tend to be massive but it is still worth a look. The outlet has a great selection and I've always been really happy with the quality of what I brought there. If you're into stationery don't miss checking out Typo. They often have great journals and notebooks on sale. I really need to stop buying those! Trade Secret is an interesting store to have a browse in. They stock a very large range of assorted fashion and home-ware items from a range of designers. There isn't many of each particular item so it takes a bit of rummaging through the racks. Personally I haven't had much success in there but you're a size that a lot of designers like to make for you might get lucky.
