We were told to go on a Tuesday for their "talent" night, and was there vocal talent to be had! A pianist and stand-up bassist were prepared with a book of sheet music to choose from, or you're able to bring your own sheet music and they can essentially play it on the spot. After going again the following Tuesday (we had that much fun), we found that many of the singers are regulars, as are those that patron the bar. The staff and hosts of the evening are marvelously encouraging of anyone wanting to sing, so if your vocal cords are itching for an audience, it's a must. It's changed a bit. Hell, so have I! But we're both totally worth it. We all need someplace to call our own. A place to be comfortable and safe. A place for gay men to talk and laugh and meet and share their thoughts without compromise. I applaud this bar for staying true to itself. I recall meeting one of the most attractive customers in this bar in the late 90s. Years later, I returned to find one of the most attractive and personable men tending bar here. Unfortunately, we were wrong. The bar was extremely noisy and quite dirty. Bartender never once acknowledged our arrival (in all 100sq ft of the bar's floor plan, it wasn't difficult to see newcomers arriving). The 15 patrons at the bar during our 5 minute visit were notably drunk... beyond the "happy and have a buzz" point and well into the "I'm unable to speak coherently and may be drooling on myself..." point. Don't get me wrong - we were absolutely visiting a bar but patrons that drunk were impossible to be around. Ambiance was undetermined as we couldn't see more than 2 foot in front of our own faces due to the lingering cigarette, tobacco, cigar and pipe smoke filling the entire establishment (please understand, this isn't being critical of smokers, as I am a smoker myself...) but ridiculous is an understatement. Disco balls are everywhere for starters, the waiters are lovely and again speak great English which is helpful. The music was amazing. They had a DJ live mixing. You wouldn't get that in the UK in a bar no bigger than a large garage....it's not called cosy for nothing. Jokes aside, it's a decent size but after 1am is when it come to life and gets very, well cosy.....especially on the tiny dancefloor. That didn't stop us representing the UK though.

But when the bartender saw that I wasn't pulling out my phone and doing calculations, he saw a chance to get away with thievery. My next drinks ratcheted up in price so that they were the equivalent of over $30 for a simple vodka soda. And because I wasn't doing math, I signed the credit card slips. Which means, of course, that I'm screwed. One charge later converted to $75.30 for two drinks (yep, I keep my receipts - I just didn't review them at the counter). So yeah, they cheated the stupid American. ha ha ha So if you also happen to be a "stupid American", avoid this den of thieves. There are a lot of good and decent Danes... just not at Cosy Bar.
