So when I commented "paying taxes has never been such a pleasant experience", some of my Yelp friends thought I was being sarcastic. For once, I wasn't. My husband and I are new to how things are done in France. We did not receive our tax bills for 2018 because of a mailing snafu. We went to the office with a translation in hand, explaining what we needed. We didn't need it though because one of the agents spoke English. Phew. (So sorry I didn't catch his name). He looked at our tax documents and explained what we needed to do: change our addresses with the tax department, pay the two invoices, and include an explanation on the documents why we were entitled to have the 10% late fee waived. Because my French is limited, he wrote the statement that we needed. We had to go to another department for a related tax and he took us to the third floor to help explain in French what we needed. The woman with whom we were speaking was also incredibly kind and helpful. Everyone was warm, friendly, and worked hard to ensure everything was addressed.
