I went in with a terrible asthma cough limiting my sole interest whilst in Argentiere/Chamonix of getting up high on foot. I received courteous, prompt, and professional care and was out hiking the next day, don't tell my doctor. Best part other than they prescribed the correct inhaler, not the one my Dr. in Aspen, CO had mis-prescribed was they actually took time with you to discuss your case and get things right. I think I like European health care! Now if I can just figure out a way to get back to the Chamonix valley and work as an american and hike all those bits I still want to hike. What a find! We were vacationing in Chamonix in May, 2015. I had been bitten by spiders or bed fleas while in Italy, and had developed red streaks from the site of the bites. I attempted to use the 'hospital' in Chamonix and was put off by a very rude receptionist at 6pm on a Friday. We went to a pharmacy and explained the problem and they directed us to Dr. Bettin in Argentiere. We arrived at about 6:30 and the very kind receptionist put us on the list as his final patient. Dr. Bettin's wife and the receptionist were incredibly friendly and helpful and his wife even gave us some English language novels to take with us for the rest of our trip. It was fascinating to talk with them about French medical care and their perceptions of the U.S. Dr. Bettin was very friendly and competent, and spoke excellent English. I wish my Dr. in the U.S. had his bedside manner. It was nearly 8pm on a Friday night when we left his office. This type of medical service in the U.S. is unheard of. Thanks to Dr. Bettin and his staff for making our stay in Chamonix a wonderful experience. read more
