For less than the price of $.50USD per person you get access to 3 museums on this campus; the Museum of Anthropology, the Museum of Popular Cultures, and the Modern Art Museum. The museums aren't big and definitely don't compare to the behemoths in nearby Mexico City, but it's decent, especially for the price & you can visit to quickly orient yourself with the history of the community. You won't suffer from museum fatigue & you'll get a manageable slice of the culture. We spent about an hour and a half there and saw all three. We nearly had the campus to ourselves with areas to stroll and picnic among the statues and pine trees. Very pretty views of the volcano & surrounding hills. If this is your first visit to Toluca and you're a museum addict I'd recommend it. The anthropology section was informative about the archaeology and indigenous cultures, the popular culture section gives you an idea of the folk art of the nearby pueblos and the modern art section was a nice bonus with a great mural anchoring the collection. That was where we ended up spending the most amount of time. Soon there will be a film archive & theater museum added and there are several huge libraries on the campus for researchers. read more
