You're going see nudity, in a creepy, not beautiful way, but somehow your eyes can't turn away. Cesky Krumlov is a small town, and on the outside this Art institute looked equally small...but its actually very large inside! The building is shockingly large inside, with 3 stories packed with art! Again, this isn't your typical art museum...be prepared to be shocked, wowed, disgusted, impressed, baffled, and mind blown. Those original early 20th century German Expressionists had some very unique perspectives on life. Brewery or museum? The ages old question asked by sensible…read moretourists while planning travel itineraries. This place is a mixture of both... sort of. It's a beer museum! :) (Yay!!!) ... that doesn't serve beer. :( (womp, womp.) But it's actually still pretty cool... probably better if you can read the native language, though... but we still had fun. If you're really into brewing, you could spend 1.5-2 hours here perusing the many levels easy. If you're just there for the heck of it, 45 minutes it's probably good. Things to know: // It's not free, admission runs about the cost of what a movie would cost you. A fair price, I'd say. // It's more historic than novelty. // Not at all hipster-y like you'd expect. // It's set up kind of like a multi-level labyrinth with ups and downs at every wall so going through is never boring. // They have a whole big area at the end that's a children's playground with some beer-themed play things. Teachin' 'em young. Awesome. // SOME of the figures are animatronic and some are not. They bait you by showing you a bunch of mannequins that don't move, then BAM, you walk into a quiet room and all these robots start canoodling and making noises and drinking beer and it WILL scare the sh*t out of you, but once your heart stops beating out of your chest and your friends stop laughing at you, you'll appreciate the humor of it. // Has a lot of info about the town, the Czech Republic, and Europe in general, so even if you don't care about beer, you can enjoy the historic portions of the museum. // It's attached to a bar, so you can go get your booze fix after, should you so desire.

We visited and went through it pretty quickly, but it was still worth stopping to see!…read more One tip I definitely wish we had known beforehand: park in the actual Melk Abbey parking lot. When you purchase your admission tickets, you can validate your parking. We missed out on that and parked in a public lot instead. Thankfully, the public parking was still pretty cheap, so it wasn't a big deal. Just keep in mind that if you park down in town, there is a decent hill to walk up to get to the Abbey entrance. Something to consider if anyone in your group has mobility issues or just doesn't want the extra uphill walk. Overall, a beautiful place to visit, and even if you don't spend a ton of time going through everything, it's still a worthwhile stop!

This was the final stop of our Austria drive before we hit Vienna for our flight home. I made sure…read moreour travels included a stop at the abbey since it was a large UNESCO site, high above the Danube River and had some impressive rooms inside. The signage throughout the city of Melk was plenty and clearly directed us to the parking lot above the abbey. Remember to take your parking ticket for free validation at the ticket office. It was around a 10 minute walk from the parking lot to the main ticketing desk. Don't go to the garden ticket booth unless you have a ticket or only want to pay for the garden visit. Admission included access to the church (amazing detail), museum, library (open but under renovation), gardens (with a must see interior of the Pavilion main hall), bastion (panoramic views above Melk and Danube) and the Marble Room (beautiful ceiling paintings). We joined the English guided tour for 4 Euros per person (Skippable IMO) and ended in the library as the guides were not allowed into the final stop, the church. From the guided tour one of the most important highlight was the famous Melk Cross, with a splinter of the true cross, had been stolen twice and fought over (Vienna and Melk) but now was no longer on display due to its condition. Since this was an active abbey photos were not allowed once inside by policy. Sometime the docents would stop you but other times not (ie. adult chaperones overseeing a school field trip). Guided tour took almost one hour but by the time we wrapped up our visit a storm moved in. We missed taking photos from the city of Melk to show just how large this complex was. If you're visiting Vienna then take a side trip out here. It will be worth it.

A very unique experience! We took a guided tour here that started in Prague and took us here to see…read morethe infamous bone chapel. The outside of the church looks unassuming but when you walk into the church, its wild to think 1. these bones are real, and 2. how many bones are actually in there. The interior is decently large where there are many bone decor pieces and then the area with stacks of bones is a smaller area.

Staff was helpfull and smiling, there is also a little candy store and café in the building or place called Budík right across the street where you can have cakes or different hot chocolates and coffes.
