It doesn't seem as busy and it feels more like Mexico than many of the urban areas. This market is a part of what gives the area its charm. Because coyoacan is the home of Frida Kahlo, Coyoacan is known to be home to many artists. While I didn't see that on a Tuesday afternoon, I hear the weekends and nights are more lively. This market full of local vendors, but a lot of what's here is touristy souvenirs that aren't cheap. Was considering rating this 3 stars as I couldn't find anything I really wanted to buy; however I do think it's an essential part of the local flavor

I learned that a portion of the proceeds goes directly to support the craftsmen and women, making Fonart a great place to support economic sustainability. As a designer and artist, it was incredible to see so so many varieties of art, technique, color use and hand craftmaship that gives each piece here a life of it's own. Learning about the histories of these crafts and the people opened up a new area of appreciation for Mexican art and design which I will keep with me in my work as well. Highly recommend!

A similar, not as nice box at the airport was $17 US! This place is huge with a large selection of arts and crafts. Highly recommend you stop by and take a browse. Even bigger bonus is that the items I selected were on sale except the consignment items.
