For too long I have been successful at missing out on the Ceviche Project pop-ups that would happen time to time in town. I was so excited when I heard Octavio was laying down roots in LA with a brick and mortar in our hood. Last night I finally made it to Ceviche Project on Hyperion and let me tell you it was INCREDIBLE! Yes, it is small but that is part of the charm and the decor is next level. Such a warm ambiance with the whole vibe and music going on. check out the before and afters on their Instagram page it's pretty awesome what they pulled off. Everything was the highest quality! The scallops topped with Japanese Uni stole the show for me! I am going to make it my mission to get Octavio to sell me some of that Spanish olive oil, it is next level. The yellowtail tostada was bomb, the bass ceviche had a super nice spice to it and the oysters were so tender. Did I say the scallops already?? We sat at the bar Octavio and Kevin were so great and it was impressive to watch them in action. We felt so welcome and could have hung out all night... oh wait, we did! Keep in mind they just opened barely 2 months ago, this is not some chain restaurant, you are coming to experience incredible ceviche and THAT is what you will find. I just went to Ceviche project for the first time on a solo date and everything was absolutely stunning. If you're someone who enjoys exploring different cuisines and energy this is the spot! I had the scallop with uni as well as without. Adding the uni is definitely a must! The added flavor is definitely worth it! I also tried the Snapper Ceviche and Yuzu Sake Cocktail. Both were packed with flavor but also very fresh and light. A must for a light summer meal. On top of the food, the service was delightful!! Automatic 20% service charge for party of 2 was not noted. Did anyone else run into this issue? I'm having a great time with my best friend while visiting L.A. We order 4 teeny-weeny snow crab claws, 1 overdressed-and-soggy ceviche tostada and 2 glasses of mediocre-but-trendy orange wine. The bill comes for $84. I'm surprised, but (not being from L.A.) just figure it's an expensive place. I put a 20% tip on top of that for a total bill that exceeds $100. Again, 2 appetizers, 2 glasses of wine, $100+. I get home, examine the receipt and notice that they put an automatic 20% service charge on the $70 subtotal. Yes, I should have checked my bill more closely instead of gabbing and having fun at a restaurant, but I also feel like the 20% auto-charge for a party of 2 should be announced when you deviate this much from "the norm"... I tried calling the restaurant several times and even emailed them requesting some sort of response or acknowledgement before writing this review. I feel better about my 46% tip knowing that this place probably won't be around long anyway... the food was just not that good and they clearly don't care about their customer experience. read more

Inconsistently flavorful dishes marred by consistently expensive prices. Would be 2.5 stars if Yelp was not stuck in 1995. A half-dozen oysters should not cost $21, especially when they are small. While the vinaigrette that came with it was tasty, I was offended it was put directly on the oyster. I like my oysters plain. The Hawaiian ceviche was delicious. The other one - I forget which one - was a bit bland. The citrus and avocado salad only had flavor from the mint that came with it. All dishes were beautiful. Presentation, like many new restaurants in the Instagram age, is the restaurant's forte. We paid $85 all in for 4 dishes and no drinks. We then went to Del Taco for tacos and a burrito. If we paid $50, or maybe $60, I would not be mad. But at $85 those dishes better be perfect. They were beautiful and had some good flavor, but they did not justify the price for me. I'm sure a large part of the price is that you're paying for Silver Lake location. Also, I'm pretty sure the shellfish on ice behind the counter are for display, especially since they are very bright colors (probably dyed). Also, there is a record player, but I am 85% sure I saw the chef playing the music from his phone. If I were 100% sure, this review would definitely be 2 stars. read more

Ceviche Project is one of our favorite spots for an artfully prepared, extraordinarily delicious meal. The chef has found the perfect pairings - scallops with tangerine and pomegranate (for a little extra, add the uni!) or try the kanpachi with avocado mousse and grapefruit. Simply delectable! Don' forget the Mushroom Carpaccio, which is perhaps misnamed. It's a wonderfully fresh arugula salad with mushrooms and lemon. Perfect to eat between courses. Been here twice since they opened and got to try almost the whole menu. The tostadas were my favorite: fresh and unlike any of the Peruvian versions of ceviche I have tried (and I'm Peruvian!) They have a small but great tailored list of organic wine by the glass and the orange wine paired really well with the seafood. Will be back! read more

This place is fantastic! Great food great service great atmosphere. Felt like I was on vacation in some other country. Uptown and beachfront wherever that may have been. Staff attire was perfect along with the chef's culinary skills. Every bite was more than pleasing, the wine selection was fitting and my selection turned out to be delightful. Not sure why a place with multiple 3 star places shows up as having 5 stars- but unfortunately I think this place was way too overpriced for what it was- the oysters were very plain and there was no flavor to it and unfortunately exactly 2 hours later I got food poisoning all night and into the morning, which is a risk of my own for eating raw food so my 3 stars is actually to the taste of the food because it wasn't even worth the food poisoning risk. The ceviche we got was good, but for the price it was 75% veggies- they definitely need to tone down the prices here. $3.50 per oyster even with happy hour is a not really a happy hour. read more

Their HH is $10 for 3 oysters and a beer which is a pretty good deal but it is still pretty pricey though. Location is your usual Silverlake small intimate location, service was great, both from whom I believe was the owner and the waiter who was very attentive from the moment we showed up. Seated very quickly. We ordered right away, 12 Premium Oysters, 6x Half shell Oysters 1x Striped Seabass Ceviche, 1x Green Shrimp Agua Chile , Premium Oysters and Half Shell Oyster - Don't order them, the trout roe ruins them, we even ordered half dozen of the regular half shell oysters, as others reviews expressed, bland and "missing that oyster flavor" everyone expects. Striped Seabass Ceviche - extremely bland, literally no taste, generous amount, but what's the point when you can't taste it. Green Shrimp Agua Chiles - was pretty damn delicious, the one highlight of the night, only to be let down by the fact that I couldn't have more, just a small quantity for $20 Service - was top notch, friendly, attentive, no complaints here. We dropped in here last night around 8pm after hearing about it and its rave reviews. The restaurant is a lot smaller than I expected, seating maybe 40 people, including bar seating. There were a a couple of tables free as well as half the bar empty. I thought it was odd that they still made us sign up on the clipboard outside. Anyway, we had a dozen oysters, the ahi tuna tostada, and the snapper; he has a glass of the chilled red. Because it was a single tostada, we ordered a second one as soon as the first one came out. The snapper was a more sizable portion, and my favorite of the two; the pineapple was subtle and the plantain chips sold me. The oysters were Kuchi and sooooo good! The service was nice and friendly. The menu was small which was nice, and everything is made super fresh. Sit at the bar and watch them in action. I'd go back and try the other two ceviches on the menu and recommend it if you're in the area. read more

Personally my favorite restaurant in LA and an absolute must for those who love raw seafood, Ceviche Project is deliciously fresh, tropically, elegantly hip. Go for the tostadas, scallops and oysters, and crab, all gorgeously presented like little art pieces with yummy, bright touches of flavor like pomegranate & tangerine that make them unique and complex. I love the peanut butter dessert ball, too, with its crispy texture. The place is a cozy spot with mirrors, marble and brass and friendly, attentive staff. The food is exceptional, and the server working there is alone worth the visit-he's kind, hospitable, and genuine. The owner and chef however made us feel very unwelcome-we sat at the bar and he barely spoke to us, and seemed irritated that we were there. The waitress/ host was very friendly and went over the whole menu Shea was very informative . They have the best micheladas you have to get their micheladas, I tried the Hawaiian kapachi tostados it was a pretty good .
