However, the experience was utterly disappointing. The restaurant was relatively empty - tables had stained table cloths, we chose one that was least stained! Were waited upon by one lady who was by herself running around serving all tables. Ordered Kadale Vada, Masala Tea, and Citron Soda, followed by Sri Lankan Saadam Thali ( Rice, 3 veggies, a meat curry), and Vegetarian Saadam Thali (Rice and 5 veggies). The Vada was tasty and that gave us hope. The mains however were atrocious - extremely small portions nestled in the midst of a bed of rice - all dishes were utterly tasteless and flavorless; scary when the Raitha becomes the tastiest dish on the plate! Service after the initial attention was non-existent. The lady never returned to enquire about us, no care whatsoever, just busy running around attending to a bunch of locals. Felt completely neglected, finished the meal hurriedly, paid at the counter, and departed as quickly as we could. The entire experience set us back a fat 42 EUR - a complete waste of money. A low-budget operation that surprisingly has 4.4 stars; really needs to buck up a lot so as not to continue to be an insult to the marvelous cuisine from that beautiful island! A pity...

Both entrees paired well with the house garlic naan (one serving is plenty for two people). While the dining room is elegantly furnished, the bar counter and restrooms were rather messy and cluttered--detracting from the overall experience. Food stains were also present on our table mats. Despite this, the food was delicious, affordable, and promptly served with courteous service. As such, I recommend Om Namo, and look forward to returning.

Today I don't even know all the Indian restaurants in my home district of Margareten. Recently I was home around lunchtime and decided I'd walk over to this somewhat newish restaurant and give it a try. It was a good decision. First they offer a special lunch for only €6.90 - two courses plus Naan. The broccoli soup which was served first was not exceptional but okay. I ate it all. The beef vindaloo with rice and raita which followed was much more flavourful. Though I generally prefer vindaloo spicier than this, I still very much enjoyed the seasonings in this dish. The Naan bread accompanying all this was large, fresh, and tasty. The décor of this restaurant is colorful and airy. Also there is a small Schanigarten outside. Om Namo won't jump to the top of my favorite Indian spots in Vienna or even to the top of favorite Indian restaurants in my neighborhood .... but since it isn't far away from where I live, I'll prob be back here at some time or another.

The others liked their food too. Prices seemed fairly reasonable. Service was good. I don't really recall any major negatives about the dinner. It was later in our trip and I was probably a bit tired and didn't make extensive notes, but I'd consider dinner here again if I returned to Vienna.

I was very surprised when I first ate here and let me explain. My family lived in Bangladesh for two years, and I have yet to find a place that has comparable food to there. However, I think India Gate has it. I mean, I would eat the truly local cuisine on a daily basis, with my local co-workers while living in Dhaka. I really LOVED the food there, and India Gate brings me back! As a plus, the owner is extremely friendly.
