My first time back here since COVID started! We came on a Thursday evening at 5pm, so it was relatively empty inside and with quick service. It's busier during peak meal hours, so if we came an hour or so later, I'd imagine it's crowded. We ordered handrolls (hamachi, unagi, spicy scallop, spicy salmon) and the Jordan roll (unagi, salmon, tuna). The fish is always great quality and really tender, and the sauce and seasoning is always delicious. The unagi glaze on both the Jordan roll and handroll was umami and sweet, caramelizing the fish well. Handrolls are always fun to eat, and this was no exception. All were delicious, but the start of the show was the spicy scallop - literally so buttery and melted in my mouth! And the perfect amount of spice. They also have a great happy hour menu (Mon-Sat from 11:30-5pm) with select $6 or $10 rolls and a few other items. The employees are always sweet and helpful. Cha Cha Sushi still draws a crowd on Capitol Expressway, but this visit felt a little different. It made me wonder if ownership changed. The place was as busy as ever, though the service didn't feel quite as warm. The food seemed less "refined", but rather more hearty--bigger cuts and sweeter sauces. We had a specialty roll topped with fish and scallops that was rich and flavorful, definitely a solid choice. The eel rice bowl came in a big portion and was satisfying. The teriyaki beef ended up being a bit dry and lean for my taste, despite the great presentation. One thing I'll say: they're not shy on portion size. this is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the Bay Area for consistently good rolls it had been awhile since I've been back -- my friend and I came around 2pm on a Saturday and there was no wait although the interior is a little small, the staff was very friendly I ordered the 49ers roll and it was as good as I remember -- the fish was very fresh. however, I was a bit thrown off by the price. it was $20 and the other roll I was considering getting was $23 it's been a few years since I last visited so I was surprised by the prices because they definitely went up a lot since my last visit -- I think coming here will become more of a once in awhile treat but I'm glad the sushi is always good whenever I decide to visit read more

It's been a while since I last dined at Cha Cha Sushi and felt the need to revisit some old stomping grounds. Was pleased to see that they had a Happy Hour menu offering some great options! $6 rolls and appetizers and $10 special rolls. I ordered a few items on the HH menu and on the regular menu. Started with their House Salad and Miso Soup, Ikura Nigiri and off the Happy Hour Menu the Spicy Tuna Roll and Salmon Kama. Everything came out quickly and the portions were huge! Really such a good deal. The house salad dressing was delicious and refreshing and I'm always a fan of miso soup, so it was a must. The Salmon Kama was perfectly roasted with tons of meat. The Ikura Nigiri was literally falling over the sides, bc of it's generous portion. The spicy tuna roll came with 6 pieces but could've easily been 8 due to being cut so thick, but the rice and fish were fresh and tasted great. Kinda small place with a typical neighborhood strip mall sushi spot feel. Came here on a Monday night @ 6pm. Place was full and we waited about 5 minutes for a table to open up. Not bad since there was a decent wait when we left. The food came out fast and overall was good. Mixed tempura- hot dipping sauce and freshly fried. The batter was a bit heavy but ok. Salmon Kama- good just a bit small. It's an appetizer so I guess that's fine. The wolf tail- really big and good. Double tempura shrimp. It was very hard to stuff a whole piece in your mouth so you don't get the full favor of all the ingredients. I did manage to stuff a smaller piece in my mouth and it was good. I almost choked to death. Just a warning. 49er roll- the thinly sliced lemon was a refreshing touch. This was our favorite. The lion king- ok. The baked roll made it a hot mess. I used to come here regularly when I lived in the area years ago but still find myself back here every now and then, it's always a safe spot to get sushi. They're located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking and other shops like Bona Pizza, 85 Degree Bakery, Tastea, and Egghead. The restaurant is on the smaller side and tables can fill up quickly so keep in mind that there might be a wait especially during dinner hours. Interior looks like a typical sushi restaurant, nothing super fancy. Staff are always friendly and attentive and food comes out fast. You really can't go wrong with any of their rolls, we always switch it up depending on how we're feeling that day but we always order either the spicy green mussels or Hawaiian poki salad as an appetizer. Everything was 10/10!! The sushi tasted so fresh and they used the right amount of rice. Our favorite was the Superman roll!! The restaurant is on the smaller side. We arrived at 7:23pm to add our name to the waitlist and were seated by 8pm. The server greeted us 2-5 minutes after we were seated and the food arrived about 15 minutes after we ordered. I used to love Cha Cha Sushi. I was one of those people who stood outside for DAYS waiting on a table. Rain or shine, I was there. The customer service here is typically a hit or miss, but more so a miss on most occasions. The rushing, the pushiness, & the unfriendly vibes were overlooked because the food was really good. Fast forward to having a kid and dining here... Some things never change and I'm not sure why I thought my visit would go any other way beyond what it has ALWAYS been. That initial first visit with my child became my very last. I broke the long hiatus because we were celebrating my cousin's bday and Cha Cha just so happened to be the restaurant of choice. Delicious as always! Slight miss but hey, everyone has an off day. Assorted Sashimi Appetizer (8 Pieces) ($20.95) 9/10 - Delicious and about as perfect as sashimi can get. Larger sashimi cuts end up being overly fatty or texturally off putting. Not the case here. The salmon was thick, tender, and incredibly buttery. Same with the tuna which was excellent quality. The hamachi was unusually pale... almost white but it still tasted great. I'm sure this is from a specific cut that I'm unfamiliar with. The fourth fish however was a bit of a mystery. One piece was nicely cut but the other was paper-thin and uneven. Surprised they let that one through. Spicy Hamachi Hand Roll ($9.95) 5/10 - I usually love hamachi as my go to but this one didn't quite deliver. It was clear they used the stringy leftover bits that didn't carry much flavor. That said, they were generous with the portion and the rice to fish ratio, along with the cucumber and seasoning was spot on! Spicy Tuna Hand Roll ($9.95) 9/10 - This one turned me into a fan of tuna! Packed with tuna and not overloaded with rice. Well balanced and flavorful. Spicy Salmon Hand Roll ($9.95) 9/10 - Not much to say. You really can't go wrong with this one. Delicious. Unagi (Freshwater Eel) ($12.95) 7/10 - Tasty? Absolutely. Worth the price? Nope! You only get four small pieces which felt steep for the cost. I expected it to come with rice but it didn't. While eel is generally pricey, this tasted pretty similar to the frozen unagi I buy from Ranch 99 or HMart for under $10 a whole filet. Unless you're a die hard eel fan, I'd recommend skipping this. read more

Both of them came with a ton of food but the price reflected it as well ($23/roll), though there are cheaper rolls too. The Ichiban roll had "huge" in parenthesis on the menu and it really was huge, I had to split it into multiple bites. My family and I have always loved coming here, which makes this even more disappointing to write. Unfortunately, our last couple of visits have been frustrating due to a consistent issue with one of the chefs. During our most recent visit, we came in for a late lunch and the restaurant wasn't busy--there were plenty of open tables. Two out of three of us received our rolls, while I was still waiting on mine.  What made it more frustrating was noticing that the chef was preparing food for guests seated directly in front of him, even though they had placed their orders after ours. This same thing happened on a previous visit as well, so it feels like a pattern rather than a one-time issue. I understand that some items may take longer than others, but it's reasonable to expect that orders are prepared in the order they're received. It felt like seating location was being prioritized over fairness. We've always enjoyed the food here, but this experience definitely took away from it. Hoping management takes a look at this so it doesn't continue to happen. read more

The fish has always been fresh and some of my favorite special rolls include: Brandon's Roll - A mixed raw fish roll, generously topped with more mixed fish and crunchy rice crackers. My go-to! I have only eaten the food to go, but dinning in is also nice. If you come here then come hungry. They give large portions so you are totally getting your money's worth. 9 years after my previous review, but still going strong! I've tried more of their rolls now and everything has been good. I ordered the bento with chicken teriyaki last time I went and the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe stick to the sushi! So I'm kicking myself for not taking any pictures but our dinner tonight at Cha cha sushi was amazing. I ordered the 49er roll and it was fresh with a sauce that has just the right amount of sweet and salty. My husband had the short rib plate, which he really enjoyed and we ordered my daughter chicken teriyaki. The place, while small and crowded with tables was bright and welcoming. We were greeted warmly and only had to wait for about 15 minutes once our whole party arrived. In a strip mall, Cha Cha Sushi is relatively small with tight seating for approximately 30 people. The decor is dark with the ceiling painted black. I had the two item combo bento with salmon and sashimi. The salmon was actually pretty good. My wife had the chicken teriyaki. There was a ton of chicken but she said it lacked flavor. One of my kids had the Child's chicken katsu which was fine and was fairly inexpensive. Service was fine as there were about five servers and runners. But it was all transactional. read more

We visited on a Tuesday (02/24), just my husband and me. We ordered 4 dishes and 2 drinks, but the table for two was extremely small -- especially with two extra cups of water. There was barely any space for everything. Unfortunately, my Coke accidentally tipped over and spilled into one of our dishes, the Golden California roll, which we hadn't even touched yet. I immediately apologized and even offered to pay for a new one. The server was very kind and said it was okay and that they would remake it for us. She was polite and even offered me a new Coke, which I declined. However, the man in the blue shirt working in the open kitchen (where customers can see everything) loudly said it was my fault, in front of other customers. It was very embarrassing and made me feel disrespected and uncomfortable. I had already apologized multiple times and offered to pay. After that, the atmosphere completely changed. Although the server remained kind, the man in the blue shirt kept looking at me in a way that felt angry and judgmental. It made the rest of our time there very uncomfortable. After about 20 minutes, we decided to leave. I still tipped well because the server was nice, but honestly, I don't feel like I deserve to be treated that way. Now since we've moved further away, we thought we'd take a walk down nostalgia lane to see how the place has held up. We both got the 3-item lunch combo. I got saba shioyaki, Negihama (yellowtail) roll and tempura. I also tried a bit of the wifey's salmon roll. The fish dishes were all great. The tempura was decent. The rolls themselves were kind of falling apart though, it seemed the rice was not quite right. Service was decent. I recall waaaay back they used to hand out some mussels for a free app. Seems they've stopped that tradition. Seems a lot of folks were getting takeout. All in all, still a good sushi place.
