In my last few visits to Cha Thai, it seems like management has hired more servers. The service issues in my last review appear to be fixed, and service was friendly, professional, and attentive. I've been on a Crying Tiger kick lately and I really enjoyed the silver noodles as well. When I get together with friends for lunch during the week, they all know which restaurant I will suggest. Yelp Challenge 2016 Decent Thai dinner with reasonable prices in a not so exciting plaza in Orange. Don't let the looks put you in reverse. Give them a chance. Im glad I did!! For $10.00, a little less for lunch. Whatcha get is some protein, rice, salad, soup, wonton and egg roll. Finished off with friendly smiles from the staff. Nothing short of a 3.5 all around. But not solid enough for a 4. With dinner special each dish comes with your choice of protein, delicious soup, salad, rice, vegetable egg roll and 2 fried wontons. Enough food for 1 hungry person. Everything is also available a la carte which offers a larger portion that is perfect for sharing family style. The soup was super delicious. Made me a believer in wonton soup. Packed in flavor! The sweet and sour chicken had more vegetables than chicken. Super saucy which I love. Pad Thai noodles were good. A little bit different than I'm used too. Different noodles, less sauce. Wish I had my Jif PB cups to mix in. BBQ chicken also dry. Would not order it again. With the dinner you get 3 pieces. A la Carte probably comes with more. Met a friend for lunch here last week. She said it was her favorite Thai place. After eating here, I can't get on board with the "favorite" description, but it was good, and reasonably priced. Combination Appetizer Plate - Koong Tod (really good shrimp wrapped in egg roll skin and fried), Fried Chicken Wontons (I didn't try them, they were in my soup and I didn't care for them), and Egg Rolls (pretty darn good!). Dumplings - Nine chicken dumplings for $7 isn't bad! I enjoyed these, they were flavorful and I liked the dipping sauce. Pad See Ew - This is what my friend ordered. Delish! I would go back just to get this again. Loved the wide noodles and the broccoli that had absorbed all the sauce. Lunch Special of Baby Corn with Chicken - The lunch special here is super cheap. $7.95 gets you an entree, Wonton Soup, and Steamed Rice. I substituted Fried Rice. The Wonton Soup had little flavor to me, and I didn't care for the way the wontons tasted. I did not finish this. The "fried rice" seemed more like steamed rice with a touch of soy sauce on it, and some peas and carrots mixed in. Not my idea of fried rice. The main entree was just alright. The mushrooms were clearly canned, not fresh. I love baby corn, so I was happy to have a lot of it. The chicken was just okay. I would come back and get the Pad See Ew and some of the appetizers. I seriously do NOT get why this place has so many decent reviews. I grew up on Thai food and have Thai Chefs as friends and have never ever had Thai food like I had here. Nothing about this place YELLED Authentic Thai to me. It was totally an Americanized Thai joint with horrible service and 70's Decor. Not to mention the Super Fly Visitors on their walls. They didn't have any of the authentic sauces or spices you would normally find at a REAL place. Well, here we go: 01. Wonton Soup - $4.00 - 2 Stars Wonton Filled with Ground Chicken in light broth topped with Sliced Chicken & Shrimp - The broth in their wonton soup was really sweet. It really threw me off. I expected mild/light broth but NOT sweet. The wonton were NOT filled with ANY meat that I could recognize. Hmm....mystery MEAT! 02. Tom Kah Shrimp - $5.00 - 2 Stars Spicy Coconut Soup with Shrimp, straw mushroom, cabbage, lemongrass, gaiangal, and lime juice - If you look at the soup, I've always ordered this soup at any Thai place I try out. I've never ever seen it as bright while in broth as I experienced here. They used way too much coconut milk and it made it so creamy, I could only swallow a few sips. There wasn't any HEAT/SPICY to it either. The shrimp was undercooked. Overall, this was not up to par with any other Tom Kah Soup I've had. I was so looking forward to it too. Real disappointment. 03. Green Curry w/Chicken - $6.95 - 2 Stars Spicy Green Curry with Bamboo Shoot, Bell Peppers and Coconut Milk with Sweet Basil - One word..."YUCK". Their version was so heavy on the coconut milk that I barely tasted the curry or anything else in fact. I know I ordered it with Chicken but as the Wonton Soup, there was only 2 pieces. Maybe they thought this girl doesn't need any meat! I know that with the photo you cannot tell but the bowl was a bit deeper than what the pix says. The flavors, the color and the taste was HORRIBLE. Plus I had a Flying Visitor stare at me throughout the entire time. I counted 2 tiny Bamboo Shoot. I won't be ordering this dish again becuz I won't be coming back again. OVERALL: SAUCES - They didn't have any authentic sauces for the food. Nothing.... SERVICE - Super duper slow, I think it was just the host/waitress and the cook who ran the whole show! DECOR - Horrible OLD furniture. The seats/benches were sticky. They had unwanted visitors all over the place. Flies on their walls everywhere. This grossed us out completely. My friends and I wanted to grab some food after Disneyland and we settled on Thai, so we ended up going to this location. I felt the service was a little slow, and at points the waiter just ignored some of our concerns. For example, my friend ordered Beef Pad Thai, but instead got Chicken and when she brought it up the waiter just looked at her expecting to accept it, which she eventually did, albeit begrudgingly. The same happened for me, I ordered my Red Curry with Fried Rice (weird combo, but I was craving both), but it ended up coming out as white rice, but I didn't care too much about it. I got the Red Curry Dinner Special, which comes with your choice of rice (white, brown or fried), some fried wontons and egg rolls, a soup, a salad and the curry. None of these items were really worth it to me. The red curry was actually the one decent part of the meal, it had a good amount of flavor, but it wasn't all that special, especially with so much good Thai food in all of SoCal. The soup basically had one wonton and a piece of lettuce, with bits of fried garlic inside of it, and it wasn't that good. The egg roll was disgusting for me, since it was filled up with cabbage and had little flavor and bad taste. The fried wontons with some sort of meat filling was nice, but it was also fried and dipped in sweet and sour sauce, so I'm not sure there's much flavor to go by there. Overall the place was a bit of a miss, and for the $10 or so the meal costed, it was okay. Pad See Ew needed more flavor and appears to have been made in a rush. Egg was not mixed in very well. With the food, no sauces or forks/chopstick were included. I came in during lunch one day. It was actually on of my attendings birthdays, so we called ahead to get a table reserved. There was about 10 of us. When we initially arrived, the restaurant was empty, but we could see there was a line of people waiting. We go here around 11:30 am. I'm not sure if the service is always bad or if they were just overwhelmed with the amount of people in their restaurant and didn't have enough people or what, but it was the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I think there might have only been like 3 people working. We were seated almost immediately, probably because we called ahead and the restaurant was empty. It took about 15 minutes before anyone showed up with menus and took our drink orders. My coworker actually had to get up and get the menus for our table himself. The majority of us ordered water and a few ordered fountain drinks. There was no silverware or plates on our tables so I got up to ask and they handed me a stack of plates to pass out for my table. I was basically doing their job. Another 20 minutes go by before we got our orders taken. When the food finally arrived, we still hadn't gotten our drink orders. The food actually arrived at a decent time, about 20 minutes given that the restaurant was busy. I got up to ask them for our waters and they handle me a few cups so I went to sit them down. I went back to get the rest and one of the ladies said just sit back down, we will bring them to you with an attitude. It was another 15 minutes before we got all of our drinks. The food itself was actually really good. I ordered drunken noodles and tum yum soup. Everything was flavored really well. I enjoyed the fried rice and the pad Thai that other people ordered as well. The beef salad was also very good. I think if I were to ever go here again, it would be for take out. The service was unbelievably bad. read more

This is my 2nd time coming here for lunch. The first time I came, the experience was great, we were served by a Thai man, possibly co-owner, he was very friendly. Yesterday, I went in with my co-worker and dealt with an older Thai woman, who might have been the owner, she wore glasses. I ordered the chicken green curry. When she took my order and asked what protein I wanted, I was indecisive and asked her what protein she recommended. She responded, "I'm a vegetarian and don't eat meat, so I can't recommend a protein." Something along that line. She could have said, I don't eat meat but this protein would go well with the curry, that's it. I got the vibe that she was lying and just wasn't having it with answering questions. I ended up ordering the chicken green curry. It was pretty good. I didn't appreciate her coldness and I'm a really friendly dude. Maybe she didn't like my darker skin and my Latino co worker. She was very nice to another older Caucasian male customers. I didn't appreciate her attitude and I didn't even do anything. I had the lunch special, it was around $12. Another thing, the Thai restaurants aren't all that in OC, I would recommend going to Los Angeles county for more authentic food or even out to Long Beach area. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. I literally just ordered through UberEATS and it took this restaurant 30 minutes to "prepare my food". I had ordered the large Shrimp Tom Yum soup and Yellow Curry Chicken. Instead I received a container FULL OF MUSHROOMS AND 2 PIECES OF SHRIMP. Ridiculous. Secondly I instead received PAD THAI instead of the yellow curry!!! Absolutely ridiculous that it took this restaurant to prepare my food for 30 minutes and they got the order WRONG?!?! Given the low prices I was a little weary that the food would be low quality or have small portions, but fortunately that wasn't the case at all! I ordered Thai iced tea, yellow curry with chicken and rice, and spicy fried rice with chicken. The Thai iced tea was perfect. The yellow curry had an incredible flavor, and was the perfect mix of rich/creamy and spicy. The chicken melts in your mouth after sitting in the curry and was great quality. The spicy fried rice was good, not great, but the curry more than made up for it. I just found the fried rice to have a slightly different flavor profile than what I was expecting, but it wasn't bad or anything. Thai food is one of my favorites, so I'm fairly picky with where I eat. They had an extensive menu and the curry was possibly the best I've ever had, so without a doubt I would eat here again. read more

The first time I tried them was when my Aunt treated me to a meal here I am glad she did . This place has really good quality meats and ingredients made fresh everytime !! My favorite out of the two plates I have tried is the beef and broccoli I like broccoli alot lol !! Very good flavor to the beef and the broccoli was cooked good as well trust me that matters when you get this type of plate . The other plate I have tried is there orange chicken that comes with real oranges the sauce is good and so is the chicken it actually has meat in it unlike other places where its just the breaded outside.
