I always visit this store when I need something they may or may not carry. I went looking for cleaning supplies, which they have a lot of. Christmas items were 20% off, so I got a few figurines with dogs for my mini village. I noticed that the store doesn't have the spark it used to have. Talking to Jack I learned that Amazon is killing them. The community needs to shop local. This store is 165 years old. Don't think of the store as inconvenient. Just stop by when you're out and about. This family owned establishment has family as the employees. It's a gem. Check it out. This is such a wonderful hardware store from the outside You may think they won't have much, and you wonder is it a hardware store at all but inside they have every little gadget, screw,chemical floor cleaner you would ever want. The folks are super helpful and genuinely interested in your project, in addition, they do repairs on light fixtures and sharpen blades for mowers and outdoor equipment and I believe even scissors. Even though normal things can be a bit pricey then buying it at Home Depot or lowes, this place takes you back in time to your grandparents era. You walk around feeling like you are in an old garage filled with all types of treasures such as old pictures or even some window pieces you can't buy anymore. When I first moved to the area we walked in and instantly felt like neighbors. Everyone knows everyone and the owner knows what the regulars are looking for before they even walk in. He even helped us find some window knobs that we can't buy anywhere else that he found in the back! One of the greatest hard ware stores I've ever visited. This is not your common big box retailer like Home Depot or Lowes. This store is like a cross between a hardware store and an antique store. The staff here pride themselves on customer service and are always willing to lend a hand or answer any questions. This store does have some of your harder to find materials and specialty tools. This is one of the last independent hardware stores around. My entire family has been coming here- I'm talking about my grandparents, my father- everyone- forever. When you walk into this hardware it's like being transported into a different era. They have everything that you could think of to repair just about anything. This is really important in a throw-away age where repair materials are hard to find. The owners work hard here to make sure that people get good service. Bring in something that you are trying to get to work and they will take the time to walk you through the process. If they can't figure it out, they know someone who can. They also know just about anybody to fix anything in your house too. If you don't need to check out an entire row of hot water heaters or refrigerators, make sure that you stop in to the Chagrin Hardware store. Family owned, and it's been in business since 1800s. The employees all know hardware, and more. Need electrical? Plumbing? Carpentry? Their knowledge alone can save you tons of time and money. Don't go expecting coupons or tons of selection. You CAN expect quality and expertise. Finally, I can vouch for this place as an excellent source of toys for both kids and much older kids (I mean most men, of course.) And don't miss the Halloween room in October. I moved to Chagrin in 1995. Jack was the first person I met in the village. I entered the hardware store to buy all the little necessities to start a new household. My main concern was the very large wolf spiders that lived in the house. They were everywhere. My mother would say - just pick them up and put them outside - yuk. I asked Jack about them and he replied "oh , they are great because they eat the bad red ants that are prevalent in your neighborhood". Great, I thought. I'll just have to live with these things. Turns out (duh) Jack was pulling my leg. I never believed anything he said again, unless it had to do with hardware. These folks know their stuff. I have since moved away and truly miss with the the creaky floors, the antiques, the local gossip, their knowledge, and most of all - sparring with the guys. read more

I've been to so many hardware stores and worked at a few, but this is one of my favorites. Part of it is the fact that it is the traditional old time hardware store. Creaky floors, old school fixtures, and super helpful employees. When I worked in Chagrin Falls over the summer I went there probably at least once a week! May it live forever! read more

chagrin hardware is the best. steve, jack, sue and rob are friendly, knowledgeable and usually have exactly what you are looking for. if they don't have it (rare) they know someone who does. and they are always happy to give you advice about your project. even though it's not as big as the 'big box' stores, they seem to have stuff that you wouldn't find anywhere else. every small town used to have a place like chagrin hardware and we are fortunate to still have it here in our town. when you are working on a project, you can run right down to get exactly what you need. i can't stand it when you have to go to a big hardware store (yeah, i'm talking about you, sears hardware) and nobody there can help you -- they don't even know what department/aisle the item you are searching for is in their own store! love it! read more
