Have gone to chakara a few times and this places continues to get better and better- like a fine wine.. they have recently completed a remodel- which makes the ambiance even more welcoming... Owner Andy and his staff are gracious, professional and make you feel like family.... But let's say- the food is the star of the show and it never disappoints- Fresh, Well priced, creative and amazing.. IF you have never been-to Chakara - make a point to GO TODAY!!!!... ( my family's personal advice- Always get the house made spinach noodles!! ( )

Went to Chakara last week. Love this place and wish I was able to go more often. They remodeled a while back so the dining room is updated, clean and cozy. It was bustling when we were there which was great to see. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. She took great care of us. I had the Japan with their delicious spinach noodles. I somehow finished it, and still had room to share some of the sushi my daughter ordered. Her eyes are always bigger than her appetite. She ordered the Pink lady, Mango dragon, and Lobster tango rolls. The sushi here is great and definitely recommend. My wife had the Japanese Teriyaki which I think is newer. It comes out sizzling like a fajita dish and was delicious as well. I know because I finished the leftovers.

I reviewed this restaurant about a year ago when we ate in for sushi. We weren't huge fans. We recently needed a late dinner (around 8:30 and nothing was open!) I called to order take out and the man was so kind and professional and suggested their spinach noodles with my dish. Delicious. We ordered Thai cuisine and it was fantastic. Quick, hot, large portions! I sadly didn't capture pictures this time around.

Wow! We were looking for a bite to eat and happened to be near Chakara so we decided to give it a try Service was fast and friendly. We split the lemon grass pepper, shrimp noodles, requesting the homemade spinach noodles and the Maki combo B The sushi was fine, side salad, a bit bland, BUT IT WAS the noodle dish that will bring me back to try more The house made noodles were a great texture and flavor but the sauce over the shrimp was amazing. The shrimp as well, with some of the best cooked shrimp I've ever had.

AMAZING. hands down Chakara is now my absolute favorite sushi place around. The food quality is always fresh and presentation is fantastic. I can't rave about this place enough! The yellowtail jalapeño and avocado ball are now my new favorites! My boyfriend says try the honey sandwich, but we also love the wonton soup! The restaurant is nice and clean and put together, the servers are on point and work as a team, service is speedy and friendly! We went a while ago and Andy the owner was so nice and welcoming, he's a great host! Gotta give him props for the tight ship he runs! Then we went again for Valentine's Day! Highly highly recommend! Maybe we will see ya there!!

    Salt & Pepper tofu

A great place to have in the neighborhood for sushi and a range of other things. Samosas are always good. Enjoyed the salt and pepper tofu but would enjoy larger pieces of peppers, or more sauce so it could all be enjoyed together better with the tofu. Service is quick, great to stop by for a quick lunch.

Always eager to sample sushi offerings when I am traveling. We were in the area on a college visit with my son to tour the Eastman School of Music. After a day of tours, information sessions, and a private lesson with one of the esteemed faculty, we were all hungry- so we headed to Chakara Sushi located about 20 minutes outside of Rochester. As it was 3:30 in the afternoon we were the only diners in the restaurant. The decor was simple - but the dining area was clean and spacious. The food was good, with only a few missteps. The tempura appetizer came with two shrimp and an assortment of vegetables. I loved the different veggies- onion pieces, green peppers, broccoli, mushrooms, zucchini. However, the breading was a little on the heavy side- too thick and inside was slightly undercooked. The gyoza were delicious. The sushi was good. Artfully made, with fresh ingredients. Again, my only criticism was that on some sushi dishes the rice seemed either slightly undercooked or maybe it was rice that was sitting for a while- a bit dry and "not-sticky". Overall the food was good despite these few missteps. I would return if I'm ever in the area again.

Staff here is so friendly & it consists of about a handful of the same employees. Service can be slow but with good reason as they take pride on what they do. Their fish is always fresh & they always bring my daughters food out first. The ambiance is casual but upscale. Portions are large. Price can be high but worth it for the quality. One of our go to places for sushi.

Sushi and sashimi combo delicious. It is a local spot I will definitely be going back to.

    Avocado ball. My favorite.

We survived the pandemic eating this food! The menu is a mix of Asian culture. Everything is fresh and the service is wonderful. Our young kids ask for it if that tells you anything.

Wow, just absolutely wow. This is the latest sushi restaurant my fiancée and I have tried between Rochester and Syracuse, and of the 10 we've done so far, this blew the rest away. Not only was the quality of the fish superb, but even the cocktails and sake were next level. My fiancée and I both started off with miso soup and I also ordered a salad. The miso was great, but the seaweed in it was a bit rubbery for my liking. The salad was excellent. Though it didn't have the typical ginger dressing, this vinegar base dressing was super delicious and refreshing. My only other note is that if you do both soup and salad, have the soup first because the vinegar in the salad can make it taste bland. For our entrees, we both had the daily catch sushi and sashimi lunch combo with an AAC roll (avocado and cucumber) substituted for the California roll, then I also ordered imported striped sea bass nigiri and my fiancée ordered unagi nigiri (eel) and since they both came with two pieces, we shared them. To go with our meals, I ordered the lychee martini and she ordered warm sake. My lychee martini was expertly balanced between the alcohol, lychee flavor, and sweetness. Not one overpowered the other but instead, they worked together in harmony. The sake was also incredibly smooth and delicious, and I'm not normally a fan of sake. The quality, cut, and texture of the fish, both as sashimi and nigiri, were absolutely phenomenal. Each piece was cut thin, melt in your mouth soft, with exceptional flavor profiles. The rice in the nigiri was soft but held its shape perfectly. The AAC roll was also fantastic, but I do wish they had more options for rolls with multiple vegetables. What was cool was that eating a piece of the AAC roll and then drinking my lychee martini actually made the martini taste even better and more refreshing! We were so impressed by our meals that we went and ordered an additional sashimi sampler and it was just as amazing. Every bite of our meals here were absolutely euphoric. I cannot recommend this place enough, do yourself a favor and go here!!!

Extraordinarily, visibly skimpy! Tiny, tiny slices. $32 for this tiny portion! Unbelievable. Wow!

I honestly thought if I went behind the bar right now not one person who worked here would notice. We were on vacation and sat at the bar. There was a manager doing computer work at the bar too. She did everything but tell us to leave. For 15 minutes, no one came over to us. Manager sees us many times, doesnt say let me get someone. Not a smile. Not a, here's a glass of water while I find the bar tender. Then when we did get someone it was clear that if we had questions they would be avoided like the plague. I asked a few times about the mayo--hate it. Id prefer to taste the fish. I was assured there wasnt mayo. It came drenched in mayo. $16 dollar roll that we didnt touch. However, the sushimi and nigiri was really fresh and rhe rice was perfect. Mackerel is one of my favorites and it was briney, bright, and sweet at the same time--excellent! But id never ever go here again. You can read my other reviews. I only dog on places when it's truly bad. My spouse was also a long time server (some at Uchiko) so we tip too much and bend over backwards to give servers our best attitudes. This felt very much like a manager/owner issue. Shame.

I don't think the food is cutting edge but I was very happy with the quality of everything we ate. The Beef Nagimaki appetizer was well seasoned and smoky, probably my favorite individual item we tried. Gyoza were delicate and plated nicely. The steak in the steak teriyaki was perfectly cooked to medium as requested and very savory and meaty. The shrimp tempura plate was also well prepared but maybe the most generic seeming of the things we tried. I loved my red sangria. Service was present and reasonable but didn't stand out. The yakitori was disappointing. Dry chicken skewered with green onion and covered in a sauce that tasted more like mitarashi dango glaze than actual yakitori tare. Extremely sweet and not the right flavor profile at all. The sushi was the bigger issue. Both the chirashi and the sushi combo had almost identical fish selections. Several pieces were clearly low-quality, especially the white fish, which tasted unmistakably like tilapia! Muddy flavor and all. I've never been served tilapia as sushi before, and it definitely shouldn't be used that way. The other fish didn't taste fresh either. The California roll was large snd bland. We paid a little over $90 with tip, and the quality didn't match the price. I even brought the leftover fish home thinking I could cook it for our cat, but even he refused it. I understand not expecting high-end sushi in upstate NY, but I do expect basic freshness and authenticity. Unfortunately, this meal fell far below that. I would not recommend this place.

The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, with some soft music playing, and sports on the TV. Our server was over within minutes to take our drink orders. We ordered the mozzarella half moons and an order of chicken wings as appetizers. The mozzarella half moons were not too great. They did not have much flavor and they tasted kind of old. But, the chicken wings were the star of the show. We got the Cajun gold sauce and wow... it was so good. There wasn't much of a Cajun flavor to it, but it had this tangy sweet flavor to it that made your mouth salivate. And the chicken wings themselves were fried to the perfect crisp. I ordered the turtle plate with cheeseburgers, french fries, and mac salad. The cheeseburgers and French fries were cooked well. The mac salad was lacking flavor and was just kind of watery. The meat hot sauce atop the plate had too much of a cinnamon flavor for me, that kind of ruined the whole plate for me. My dad order their special fried oyster po boy, which he said wasn't too great. He said the fried oyster were kind of cold, and they were put on a plain roll. My mom got a burger, which she said was a fine burger. I definitely will be back in the future at least for those wings, and to probably try some of their other food.
