Not only is Sun Haven the best taken care off private home cum guesthouse we have seen everywhere, it gets topped by the friendly attentive hospitality by Sue and Mike. All their Rooms are En-Suite with the best beds mattresses and bedlinnen alike meticulously cleaned and taken care off by Sue, the staircase to the rooms is quite wide and Mike gladly helps with the bags. Mike is very generous in giving out information about what guests can do on sunny and rainy days, leaflets in the lobby are ample, however consult Mike he will cheerfully weed out value offers from potential ripoffs without missing a beat.Sue is a former nurse and has made health service available to our student daughter who suddenly fell ill and has even accompanied her to the local doctor. Mike a former gas engineers hobby is cooking breakfast and he hands out a lovely breakfast both continental and traditional English. Need it be said that alternatively you can get a generous lunch bag. However tell them the night before. Both Sue and Mike go to extents to get the best produce for their guests which takes a lot out of Mike's rowing in the closeby sea ( about 1/2mile and down with the cable car or down the flowery cliff ) and Sue's endeavors keeping house and linens spotlessly cleaned and well ironed. Last summer my studying daughter and her study friend decided on a days notice to Sue and Mike to spend a week in Bournemouth for study and relaxation no problem even tough close to being fully booked Sue and Mike made our daughters stay possible and not only that took excellent care of the 2 young ladies mercy beaucoup Sue and Mike

I booked on booking.com, when asked for extra requests, I asked for extra towels as I was meeting my partner after he had had a hard day at work and I didn't want him to have to use the same towel the next day, This didn't happen although the guesthouse wrote back to me telling me my request would be fine?! We didn't get those extra towels. This wasn't such i big deal so I shrugged it off. The next morning we went down for breakfast which was already paid for as part of the £100 deal bed a breakfast, we ordered from the waitress 2 all day breakfasts, we sat there over an hour drinking coffee a, we went outside while waiting where one of the other guests asked us if we have got our breakfast yet!? strange question but we said no we are still waiting. So we went back in and sat there discussing our day when my partner noticed they had closed the kitchen! The manager came into the dining room and was talking to another couple who were still in the dining room, we sat there thinking he would finish talking and come over to us soon to ask if everything was ok as expected, he didn't he just kept on talking to the other guests, I got the feeling he was ignoring us, We were offended and just left the the dining room to pack and leave, my parter went back in to give in the room key, My partner went to talk to the manager but the man just was still talking about how he want to change this and that in the hotel with the other guests, So my partner interrupted him letting him know we hadn't had breakfast, his reply was "yeah I know it the new girls fault we couldn't get our usual staff in, He the gave my partner his card and said when you come again we will sort you a discount out REALLY...GO AGAIN...The man was rude and ignorant. What a bad start to a day and way to make you guests feel welcome. I felt we had been discriminated against with no explanation why?

It deserves all five stars as Yvonne and Ray, the owners, have accommodation to offer that is as good, if not better, than any 5* hotel. The rooms are very spacious, are full en-suite and spotless. Situated in an exclusive avenue that leads to a cul de sac ensured that our sleep was undisturbed and as for the breakfasts - they exceeded all expectations in both choice and quality. This would be a good base to explore the Jurassic coast from, whether by bus or car. There is a steam railway to Swannage from where you can take an open topped bus tour to Bournemouth. There is excellent walking in all directions from the castle and there is good eating in the village. We will certainly return.

I think they also have static caravans but we just camped in a tent. The camping field was level in places but other areas were a bit bumpy and on a slope. The side has a pub, which had evening entertainment in the evenings. The food and drinks were reasonable priced. The campsite was quite expensive compared to other sites in the area but it is a large site. The site also has an outdoor pool which when we went was very dirty with grass and leaves in it! The owner of the site was very helpful and was around when needed. There was a reception area where you could go if you had any problems or questions they also sold some camping items.

The beds are the kind you don't want to get out of and sheets incredibly fresh and pressed. I've stayed here on a few of my trips down to Weymouth, always with my son and been well catered for. We paid top wack for what my family and I expected to be a 4* cottage and we are experiencing way more luxury and cleanliness in our 3* hotel. Cheap fixtures and fittings. The cottage (we stayed in the Keeper's Cottage) included all the amentities you could want, such as comfy leather furniture, a dreamy superking comfy bed, good showers, and lovely original artwork by the owner in all of the rooms. Pretty, but not overdone at all. My partner was pleased that there were tv's and dvd players in all of the rooms and some DVD's were provided as well, along with games and loads of brochures offering ideas about what to do during our stay. Just as lovely as the inside, was the views from our personal gated patio. We looked over onto a quiet horse pasture which is known for featuring deer (though we didn't see any on our trip unfortunately). However, every morning when we woke up, a lovely dark brown rescue pony grazed just outside our bedroom window. Farm cats wandered by now and again, and fat curious chickens came for a visit every day as well. These were the same chickens who provided us with farm fresh eggs for breakfast. It was incredibly peaceful hearing the horses neighing across the field to one another or the owls hooting in the evenings. Just the sort of romantic get-away we had been craving. That being said, there's plenty of room in the cottage for groups too. However, if you opt to leave everyone else at home like we did, there is often a discount available for only using one of the two bathrooms and/or not using the extra bedroom. This isn't as central a location to the New Forest as lots of other cottage options, but you can't beat it for privacy and solitude. The owners seem like very kind people who seem to be up for a chat if we want one, but more than happy to leave us alone if we prefer it, which we respected. We loved that all the fixings for tea and/or coffee with yummy biscuits was waiting for us when we arrived. I can't say enough good things and we can't wait to go back again someday!
