I came in for a pedi after reading all the rave reviews and seeing their awesome pictures. I'm all about getting a design on my nails because if I'm paying someone to pamper me, give me the finishing touches I can't do myself. Sadly this place did not deliver. All the bad yelp reviews are accurate. I looked past the bad reviews to give this place a shot... after my visit, I will not be coming back. I'm all about finishing touches and my paint job was sad! I could paint my own nails better. I came in expecting to get some awesome, 'pimp my nails' type of art. That did not happen! The plain color she did on me was streaky and messy!! This place does awesome design work but if the nails don't stay on how am I supposed 2 show it off?! I just posted a pic of my nails, I left the shop about 1 pm yesterday went got my hair done and then went home to bed woke up and about 8 am & my nails started popping off there is nothing that I have done to make them pop off. The creativity and quality nail art offered at Champion Salon is so unparalleled (by any other salon in the bay) that I actually drive from the South Bay to get my nails done here! That said, I'm going to give some honest and detailed tips to navigating the salon I've come to know and love over the last few months. 1. Appointments: Do yourself and everyone else a favor and make one... and be on time! Champion Salon has a LOYAL following and tends to be busy, particularly on weekends. If its your first time, try coming on a weekday morning when its slower and you can get individual attention. 2. Payment: Bring cash, they don't take cards-- and I don't blame them. I pay hundreds of dollars a month to credit card processors to accept cards at my business and wish I didn't have to! 3. Parking: It's on E. 14th Street and there isn't a parking lot, but without fail, I always get a spot right in front. 4. Ambiance: The neighborhood is not fancy and neither is the shop but the family that runs Champion Salon OWNS their building and keeps their operating costs low so they don't have to charge you an arm and a leg for their Instagram worthy nail art! I appreciate the fact that at Champion Salon, my $ is being spent on the top quality nail polishes and Swarovski Crystals the salon uses on my nails rather than on some commercial property owner's fancy building. 5. Staff: Champion Salon is family owned and operated by a Mother and her 2 Daughters. The fact that they have been in business for over a decade and have excellent publicly available health records is a testament to their success. As a side note, I understand that beauty services are a very personal and everyone has their own unique preferences about how they like things done, but I must admit that I was outright shocked to see so many recent and outright disrespectful reviews about Champion Salon! While no location, nail tech, design, atmosphere etc. is a perfect fit for every customer, no business owner or employee should be subject to the verbal abuse being spewed in service providers on the spot rather than resorting to anonymous internet thugging and name calling after the fact. After seeing dope ass nail designs on Yelp and on her instagram page just like everyone else, I decided to set up an appointment now that my mom's wedding is coming up. I had to google map the location even though I'm very familiar with the area and San Leandro in general. Not going to lie, I thought there would be a convenient parking lot and not just a few spaces where you park by the curb. It was full when I got there so I had to park around in the next block which bothers me because I'm a new driver and I suck at parking lmao. Anyway, I walked in the store and it was fairly decent looking. It was on a Thursday afternoon and they were busy. My appointment was at 5 and I came in before 5 but I didn't get seated u til 5:30ish which sucks because I hate slow ass services. I had to be passed around 3 times, one for the acrylics, shaping and the design. The acrylics person seemed irritated by me and was lightweight giving me attitude because of how I cant relax my fingers (if that makes sense) but it's whatevaa. She was also agressive and seemed like in a rush. The shaping person who I assumed to be the mother of the design person was nice and kept up a conversation. Now onto the design! I didn't get her name but she's also a conversationalist and has a great, spunky personality. She obviously knows what she's doing and is hella good at it too. My nails came out looking exactly how I wanted it to be! So far it hasn't been a day yet but my nails are still solid. Hopefully it'll continue til the wedding! Ok I went to Champions on 3/11 and I fell in love with these very talented sister's designs. I love how they think outside of the box and come up with these wonderful and fresh designs. If you're a very basic kind of person that only likes French tips then Champions may not be ur flavor (although they do some awesome French tips as well not going to knock them there) but I say it's like if you were to go to Mortons steak house where they specialize in these juicy and succulent steaks only to order a plain old Hamburger. That's absurd and down right Ludacris!! When you go out somewhere like Morton's you go there to get their specialties and to try something different; If you go as far as going to do business with the wonderful nail technicians at Champions u may as well let them pimp ya nails out and give u a burst of newness and something fresh!! Champion Salon is the CHAMPION of nail art and designs. A friend of mine and I had been planning to visit this salon for months after seeing one of our co-workers nails. We went this week on a walk in and had somehow pictured an ultra luxe, glamourous nail spa. Instead, my friend and I walked past it twice unsure if we had the correct address. It is a moderate size salon where they do both hair and nails. It is furnished very humble and modest no extra glitz or decor. Once we walked in and checked out their look book we instantly knew we were in the right place. Pros: The customer service was good. Nice accessible location for all Bay Areaans. Fun designs and quick in and out time. Cons: They forgot to apply topcoat to my nails so they look super dull and old rather then new and fresh. Without the topcoat the thinner they put in the polish is easily revealed. I had to apply my own topcoat after a $41 service. NO BUENO. The atmosphere, decor, and ambiance can be improved. Designs make me want to go back but the acrylic set and paint job was mediocre. read more

BRENDA did my nail designs and did a WONDERFUL JOB! Her mother did my pink and white full set. I wasn't as pleased with the set. The powder was applied thicker than I prefer, were filed a little crooked and just 3 days later the gel had worn off in some areas and looked like I hadn't gotten them done in a week. Next time I may just have Brenda hook up the whole set or go elsewhere for the set and only come in only for the designs. All of the ladies were super nice though and the prices were reasonable . To my surprise according to the ratings, reviews, and beautiful designs, & the fact that it was a Friday there was only one person getting her nails done with 2 women working. The first nail tech quickly did my fill, and the second nail tech who is nearly my age (early 20's) shaped and designed them. Both of them were fairly nice and the younger one is very talkative, which I like because most nail tech's rarely ever speak to their customers and vice versa. It made the entire process go by smoothly and quickly, before I knew it, she was done. She is very fast too and I like fast paced working styles. Don't be fooled, just because she works fast doesn't mean she's not efficient. Thus my first visit was a success and I got the nails I wanted, exactly the way I pictured it. First time after hearing and reading good reviews... Unfortunately my review will NOT be a good one... This place doesnt even look like a REAL nail shop. Looks ghetto, and the ppl are RUDE!! Meh, I've experienced better is exactly my thoughts on this place. It was my first time here and I was really excited to come try this place after reading the good reviews and seeing pictures of designs that looked pretty cool. I made an appointment for a pedi and full set. I was seated pretty quickly for the pedi, but then they were bombarded with customers and my pedi was rushed as it was 1 lady working on me and 2 other girls. Fine, whatever. Then i got seated for my full set, rush job, uneven nails, not filed properly at all. I didnt like it one bit. Got them painted by the design girl who was also working on 3 other girls at the same time... Rushed again. Got two designs (didnt realize they were $10 each, what a rip). My total time spent there was about 2.5hrs (and most of it was because i had to wait while they worked on others at the same time). Reluctantly ended up paying $55. A few days later my nail color started changing colors, like wth? Sorry, first and last time here! read more

With that being said let me just describe the scenario: sister called ahead to make an appointment for 5 PM and they told us there would be no problem being that we made a reservation the same day. We got there and the place was packed but I assumed there would not be a problem since we had reservations. Boy was I wrong! We were the last ones to be seen!!! Unfortunately, I had not driven myself there and I had to wait for my ride regardless or else I would've left as soon as I saw that no one was dealing with the customers in line. There were three women working, two of the ladies who looked like they spoke very little English were mainly just prepping the clients for the other girl who seemed to be the main one who did the designs. At no point did anyone apologize for the wait, being that we had called to make a reservation! They didn't try to put us ahead of any other customers even tho we reminded them of our appointment. After waiting at least an hour and a half and totally infuriated at their inefficiency and lack of communication, we were finally seen. The woman who prep my nails did a terrible job, she didn't even properly remove the nail polish from my previous set, and proceeded to fill them in with the cheap acrylic that they use (which was chipping at the edges around my cuticles after just a couple of days!). When I realized that she had done a poor job, it was too late and I could see specs of black polish underneath the acrylic. Totally disgusting looking. Being that we were the last customers and it was almost time to close the woman doing my set had done a really sloppy job, but hey, it's not my problem she wanted to leave! Take some pride in your work! When I was ushered to the girl doing the designs they were charging a ridiculous price for designs that I could do myself with my left hand perfectly. I just asked for regular nail polish. I didn't tip them and left promptly after paying. I would never ever come back to this place and if I could give it zero stars I would. I had to instruct the lady to put a base coat under my dark red nail polish so that it doesn't stain my nails. She first looked at me like she didn't understand. She still didn't use a base coat she used a top coat (but whatever). 4. I have nail polish all over i.e. she did a real bad job of painting my nails and "cleaning" them up. Wow! First time customer at champion salon but after today, this is definitely not my last visit. I called ahead and booked an appointment. Phoung was my technician and I told her that I wanted to do a gel mani w a special design. Phoung asked to see pics which I gladly did and she replied that she was able to achieve the desired design. The whole process took about half an hour and the whole time Phoung was really sweet and a great conversationalist. I watched her design my nails without breaking a sweat- she's quite the artist! I desperately wanted to love this salon because the pictures and ratings here on yelp are fantastic, but I was met with much less than I expected. To start, the shop is a little musty and definitely hot. Its hard to enjoy getting pampered in an 80 degree room. As for the service, I'd give a 3). They are kind as long as you are kind to them, and seem eager to give you the product you want. So long as it is only for 24 hours. I came in for a fill and gel polish with a design. Not a crazy 3d design but enough that I figured most salons wouldn't satisfy what I wanted, so Champion salon seemed great. My fill was done poorly. I had to ask twice to have the edges softened near my nail bed because it had been applied poorly. I also had to pay to have them shortened because I wasn't asked previous to her applying the fill. and I feel as though the acrylic was applied to high, making it look as though my fresh fill was already a week old. as for the paint. i had two nails on each handpainted white, which were all streaky and uneven. my designs all started to fade away by that night, and all I'd done was shower and pack a suitcase. and I also, during my shower, had nail polish begin to peel up on multiple nails. the shop was already closed at this point and I left for a vacation that night so I was unable to have them fixed within their 24 hour window. I am fairly sure that with gel, you're supposed to seal the nail THEN do the design and reseal it, as this is how I've had every other gel design done.but not here. I also assume their UV lamps are not powerful enough to cure the nails properly because I've never had these issues before. it also took around 2.5 hours for my sister and I to get gel acrylic fills, which is obscene. ultra disappointing, will not even think of returning. I paid 40 dollars for service that didn't last 4 hours. Not fair. read more

My go to spot for acrylics, especially when I want deigns on them. I would advise you to spend a little extra and get the gel finishing polish they offer as well, very well worth it- it makes your polish/acrylics stay on so much longer. I've had mines for 3 weeks and other than my nails growing out, they still look perfect. I also got one of my nails super blinged out with the diamonds they have and NONE came off. To start off, everyone that works at this salon was lovely. I had no bad experiences with then. I found both ladies very kind and I appreciated their customer service. But I was so surprised by how dirty this salon was. I felt like they hadn't cleaned the stations for a very long time and there was visible dirt everywhere. Luckily, I saw all of the tools come out of sterilized bags, but I felt incredibly nervous. The pad i laid my hands on to get my nails done were sticky and stained. I also couldn't believe how dated the nail polishes were. They had separated and looked like they could be 10 years old. The brands they carried were also very cheap and they began to chip in a couple of days. There were also handwritten signs everywhere that said over and over that they must be paid upfront, that they were not responsible for children being injured and that customers would be charged for painting their own nails. I assume this needs to be said, but I'd never seen anything like it. I didn't have any designs done, so I'm sure they're fantastic at that. But salons need to be kept clean. I wasn't comfortable or relaxed while there and I sadly won't be returning. read more

So when the day came to get my nails done I called that morning and they took my time right away ... I was happy :) When I got there the lady doing my pedicure dug in so deep into my toe nails. Let me tell you I never ever ever ever complain about it but this one hurt and I haven't had this happen to me since I was in middle school. The lady who was putting acrylic on my nails knew had to shape them perfectly. But there acrylic is the cheap acrylic kind and really burned me on a few of my nails when she was sanding them down. I am giving them 3 stars because of the designs they do because they are excellent. But I am the type of person who likes the gel coat on top of my nails because I don't want to mess them up when I am reaching to get the keys out of my bag. Just got a pedi today. I was in rush and I went in after tanning next door (high quality one stop shop!). I did not get the girls name who did it, she was wearing glasses and took so much care of my calluses! They were my biggest concern as my feet get really beat up from wearing 6 in heels and walking daily. They speak such good English!! Finally! Communication!
