No matter how many times over the last twenty five years I have tried to like this place, It always disappoints. My last visit was no exception. The guys behind the bar are always unfriendly, and have attitude problems. The servers are always miserable, and beat down with life drama. The f-bombs dropped within hearing of customers is classless. Even the kitchen boys get in on the act, and they are well taught. They cannot even get the dive bar thing right, which isn't difficult. This is my first ever bad Yelp review to submit. I walked in to Champs and the two workers stared at me like I was in the wrong place. Only one other patron was there and was at the bar drinking beer. I asked if they served lunch and they sad yes. I sat down, and the waitress brought me water and a menu, and then forgot all about me. I sat there for a long time. They got the bar patron another beer. Texted. Talked to vendors who came in. And just stood there. I was CLOSE to them and in their line of vision. And the only customer for lunch! After maybe another 15 minutes of what felt like them purposely ignoring me, I finally walked out. I went next door to Jameson's which had excellent, friendly service. 5 stars for Jameson's. Champ's.. always my experience to have good food, good service, except on a Weekend eve. It was busy.. fine my husband and I didn't have to wait long for a table, but we were pretty much ignored after that. Our drink order was taken, but we wondered if we were forgotten. After we finally got our and beer and wine, our good order was taken. We sat with empty glasses, then finally just left without eating. Others were served that came in after us. AMAZING. This is my first time trying Champ's but I had a big cravings for a club sandwich and I saw they had one and it was GREAT! With it being my first time here and Due to COVID-19 we had to do take out. My husband went in to get it and he said they did amazing my staying sanitary down to the pen jars! I am so glad we chose them for takeout tonight and will defiantly be returning! My club was GREAT and my husbands steak sandwich was another win! Great job guys! This is a smallish independent place that is a bar - it is not the restaurant chain Champp's (with two p's). This is a local bar, on Grand River, just off Main Street. Its primary function is a bar, with a good selection of on tap beers. They also server bar food. Good bar food, but basic bar food - burgers, sandwiches, fried things and salads. They do offer different ground meat options for their burgers, They have a couple of entrees - but the specialize with their the burgers. It looks like they have a limited Kitchen space, so I'm sure that helps them in the menu selection. They have booths and tables and based upon the number of chairs, they can really pack the customers in. It is a local place, a fair number of people for lunch, and most of them were having a drink with their meal. Wait staff is seasoned, professional, and efficient. read more

We stopped in one night, lured in by the signs claiming they had been voted as having the best burgers in town. We suspect the voting pool was limited to their own staff, because the burgers were little pucks of sadness. The fries were OK, but the portions were stingy. My husband, who normally evicts anything that even resembles a pickle off of his plate and onto mine, greedily devoured the dill spear that came with his meal because he was still that hungry after finishing the burger and fries. He got a soft drink; I had one beer. And yet this meal ended up costing us close to $50 with tip. Service was...present? I heard people raving about the burger here, so I figured I'd go and check it out. To start with, the inside is pretty dark. I'm not sure bar's are supposed to be THIS dark. It didn't add much to the "atmosphere." The service is pretty crappy, to be honest. No one was mean, but no one was very happy to see me and "prompt" is not a word in their vocabulary here. You can tell that anyone who's a "regular" gets treated tremendously better than you. Not only does that look poorly on them, it makes anyone "new" not want to return -- ever. It's just not welcoming or advantageous to have this stance. I ordered a burger with some simple addons. It came after a bit of a wait. It was cooked alright and the addons (lettuce, tomato, onion) were all correct. The bun was pretty much right off of a local supermarket's shelves -- typical white bread that falls apart the minute you breathe on it. The burger was cooked decent, but there wasn't any flavor. It was just bland, bland, bland. I was liberal with the salt shaker on the table and finally got it to taste like something. Not impressed at all. Lastly, for a simple burger with simple ingredients, service that was pretty sub-par, and not even fries, I got a $12 bill. The entire experience was not worth my money. My latest experience was not so great. So first we were seated at a two person table and we had four people, then they moved us to a bigger one. (It was busy so it was fine) I ordered a veggie burger and instead of putting what I asked on it, put only the things I asked NOT to be. My brother ordered a burger medium, it was like a brick. I'll start by saying the food was good. Burgers, cheese curds and Santa Fe egg rolls all good. I reserved an igloo on March 11 for March 20 (my birthday). We get to Champs and no igloos, tables outside, but no igloos. So much for a notification they were taking the igloos down. They did have tables outside, thank goodness because the restaurant was full, and waitresses were not wearing masks. I'll say my first thought was super spreader event. Secondly, I'm always hesitant when a bar or restaurants website says they're friendly, it's not something you really need to advertise because friendliness is part of hospitality. Was it an Ed Debievces type vibe?! Friendly rude banter? Nope. This was the most bizarre dinning experience. Waitresses not wearing masks, smoking breaks take priority over serving drinks and dinner. If you would like a decent burger while tapping your non mask wearing waitress on the shoulder while she's on a smoke break,then go to champs. Excellent food, crap service (unless you're a regular). We had the jalapeno poppers, turkey Reuben with wedge fries and a kielbasa sandwich with sweet potato fries. All were excellent. However, the poppers were delivered without silverware or plates. The waitress didn't return until she brought our food. She dropped the plates on our table (with 2 knives and 1 fork), and ran as fast as she could away. She didn't return to check on us until after I got up and helped myself to more napkins. When she came back by, she asked my boyfriend if there was anything else he'd like and left again. At the end of the meal, it took 12 minutes and 50 seconds for her to bring our check. Yes we timed it, and bet on it and I won. The sad part was, our bet was whether or not we'd have the check within 5. For the record, we asked for the bill a good 3 minutes (at least) before we started timing. It was disappointing because my boyfriend talked it up, from his many great times there growing up. However, if you're hungry and not in a hurry (or desiring refills) the food was worth the wait. read more

I'll preface by saying that 2.5 is actually closer to the correct rating. Went in for a basic burger. Got that, fries, some clam chowder, and a couple of beers for over almost $50 before tax. Not the BEST value for that type of food (it was just my wife and I). The burgers are good, but even though they've been rated the "best", I would say they're slightly above average. The clam chowder however is VERY good, and obviously made fresh daily. The fries are good and plentiful. The atmosphere is a bit cramped, and It will be nice when the smoking ban goes into effect in May 2010. Other than that, it's not a bad place to try if you're out to compare burgers. read more

One of the few places in Brighton that I keep coming back to! I'm going to preface this with saying, we really have the best experiences only when the server Pam is there. She runs that place like a champion. Luckily, she is usually there. The two times without her, were completely different, less efficient, experiences. Champs is a dive bar that has great burgers & a solid beer list. That's what you should get when visiting Champs...a burger and a beer. I especially enjoy their turkey burger. The meat is from Marv's which is a local meat market, right down the street. You can definitely tell when taking a bite that it is not frozen, outsourced meat. I usually get the sweet potato fries as a side, which come with a sprinkle of brown sugar. Their regular beef burgers are delicious as well! The regular fries are pretty average. Skinny cut, which I like, but not something to write home about. Don't visit this place expecting something fancy. If you are looking for a lively dive bar with (usually) great service, and a solid burger, give it a try! read more

Alright... where to start. This was awful our food took an hour to get to us when we ordered so little. I ordered a burger cooked on medium, it came out tasting like a brick. Took my son for a quick burger. Cost was nearly $15 for a one burger/fries plus two sodas. He said burger was good, cost a $1 for cheese, $2 for a small handful of fries vs chips it comes with. The fries are nothing special. Not a bad place, but a rip for a quick burger and probably overrated, it's a bar with bar food. How often are burgers bad at bars? I am a frequent diner here and typically would give it 4+ stars. The salmon burgers are awesome. Hope tonight was a one off. They were not busy but the service was extremely slow. My son ordered a chicken Caesar salad, and it had 4 bite size pieces of chicken on it - about 1/4 of one breast. Part of our order was not put in, and no apology.
