This is a review I've been meaning to make for a very long time now. When it comes to desi events, clothing is often the most difficult aspect to consider. Every single shop in Devon has good outfits but the service can be terrible and some may even take months for a custom order. If you want to avoid all of these issues then I IMPLORE you to go to Chandni for all your desi shopping needs. I have gotten 5 shirwaani's, two vests, and two kurtas either made or tailored by them and it has been a perfect experience every time. Hamid Mirza and his team are amazingly professional and they will walk you through what you need. They have helped me on so many occasions that I know instantly where to go any time there's a wedding. Now that it's my own wedding to dress up for, I trusted Chandni Exclusive and they did not disappoint. They managed to capture exactly what I wanted to custom order and didn't miss a single detail that I wanted. It even came in less than a month! Stop by whenever you're in Devon and you will be shocked and amazed with how easy it is to look fresh and dress well when you go to Chandni's. The first and most important rule when it comes to shopping on Devon is bargaining. They expect you to haggle and the price tags reflect that, so don't get sticker shock. Realistically you should end up paying 50% to 75% of the listed price depending on the item. Chandni has quickly become my go to shop based on both quality and customer service. Although all the employees are nice, Huriya really made the experience memorable. She genuinely cares about her customers and has enough experience and creativity to help you custom-make a dress for any occasion. Chandni's bridal selection is larger than most other boutiques in that area and very up to date on the latest Pakistani trends. I first checked out the store with my family while visiting Chicago. My sister had bought an outfit that she really liked and had told me to go in and check out their bridal collection. There was nothing in the store that caught my eye and I was too hesitant to place a large bridal order without being familiar with their business practices or having shopped there personally before. Therefore, I showed the owner a picture of an outfit I was considering for my "bridesmaids." The agreement was that he would order it in a sample size so I could see how the outfit turns out. If I was happy with the product, I would buy the sample outfit and order anywhere from 7 to 8 more for the other girls in my bridal party. Fast forward a month and a half and my sister returned to the store to check on the sample outfit. She was told that the outfit was "sold" because we had never placed a deposit and never signed a formal agreement. My parents felt that they were right and so we let it slide. My brother's wedding was also close to 2 months away and so he decided to order his sherwani while he was there. This time, a deposit was placed and a formal order was made with an expected delivery date. One week before the delivery, my mother called to confirm if the order was on track. She was informed it was on it's way and to be at their store the following week. My parents and my brother showed up and were greeted by the owner's wife and daughter and nothing seemed out of the ordinary - until it came time to pull out the sherwani. The wife told my family she had just gotten off the phone with "India" and due to some issues on the tailor's end, the outfit was not complete and was never sent and the earliest they could receive it would be June 28th. Keep in mind that my brother's wedding was now only a week and a half away on June 25th. Needless to say there was a mad rush of taking a similar outfit off a mannequin, trying to alter it to fit my brother's specifications, and replacing a number of missing stones and by 9 p.m. , he received a hodge podge of a product. His deposit was not returned. In fact, he ended up paying full price for a damaged product off a mannequin that fit none of the specifications he had provided for his original order. Ultimately, he ended up paying full price because the owner had suffered a heart attack just a few days previously and my Mom felt guilty. While the store did work all day to make the product off the mannequin fit, it doesn't excuse not having had his original order in time and nor does it excuse the lie told that the product was already en route. All in all, I would not shop here again due to the lack of accountability, poor communication and questionable business practices. read more

I see some really upset people reviewing Chandni, but my experience was pretty different. I picked up some linen sets off the rack and needed to have the tops tailored - they just don't mass-manufacture them for busty Scandinavians - and although the saleswomen said that they could turn it around the same day, I set up a time a few days later to pick them up. I actually stopped by the store at the appointed time and they were closed, and nobody was answering the phone, and that caused me a little concern because I needed to wear them the next day, but when I called about an hour later, the proprietor answered the phone, apologized that he was just running a bit late, and assured me that he would still be open at 8:30 when I got off work. When I got there, one of the tops fit perfectly, but the other one was still a bit snug around the chest. The owner took one look at it and understood exactly what needed to be done, and he took the top and ten minutes later it was fixed. I am so happy to have a nice store to go to for Indian clothing; I find it so pretty and comfortable and I would wear it to work every day if I could. And everybody in this store was friendly and helpful and positive and it was a nice place to hang out. read more

I've read various scathing reviews of this place, and I don't have the full scope of service as I have not received the items yet. I can, however, tell you the staff loves to negotiate. The stay with doubling the price, so start at 50%. At that point you should walk out once or twice for effect. At that point, the real negotiation begins. I didn't expect much when I first walked in the store - it was quiet and empty, and not as bright and colorful as other places. Also, as I am plus size, I was worried that they would not have anything to fit me. ****Be insistent on what you want - and keep looking through the store - every piece is slightly different to the next and you will just have to try a bunch of things on because there are no sizes. This is not J Crew. The service is good and the staff will warm up to you, eventually, and you will make new friends!!**** The staff initially pulled some items in bad colors and styles I did not want. They were also pulling things that were wayyy to small and saying they could tailor everything - which I wasn't comfortable with. But we kept looking and their picks improved. My mother finally dug out a gorgeous salwar kameez (long shirt/tunic with baggy pants.) The top is a gorgeous bright turquoise silk chiffon hand embroidered with gold and with rhinestones sewn on EVERYWHERE. I was in LOVE with it. It fit PERFECTLY. The owner was incredibly kind and really helped me out with the price (by the way, you definitely need to negotiate) - but I feel he helped me out even more than the normal bargaining because it was very expensive (hand embroidery all over) and I had a low budget. He wanted me to have a positive experience and he could see I was in love with what I was wearing, and gave me an affordable price. I purchased it and was so happy with the outfit. We walked in not knowing a kurta from a burka. I needed a kurta. I am a HUGE (6'5", 270 lbs) white dude. I was doubtful they would have my size. I was wrong. They had my size in a rainbow of colors and styles. It was overwhelming but the staff was incredibly helpful, kind, and patient--and they had a great sense of humor about it all. I even got some special dress shoes. They had shoes that fit me and I wear size 14s! It was a great experience. I'm not sure when I'll need kurta pajamas again, but I know where I would go if I do. This is the worst damn store on Devon. We unfortunately have been coming here for the last 5 weddings in our family. They NEVER get the work done on time. The grooms sherwani was not ready, not even touched, the day before the nikah. The day before!!!!!!!!!!! THEY NEVER even give a damn. Even after the wedding there were items we asked them to work on. He agreed to his mistake and said he will reorder. upon multiple phone calls he said the package is finally shipped from Pakistan. When we went to pick it up. It was the wrong material. Apparently the order he sent in to Pakistan was never received by them. The owner never cared to follow up on it. The wedding was the next day and I had no choice except to take whatever he gave us.. Chandni has an extensive, affordable, and high quality selection of shalwars/sharvanis for men. They do in-store custom fittings for free and will order the garment you're looking for if they're out of stock. The golden rule is to Bargain, Bargain, and Bargain some more! The workers speak primarily Urdu/Hindi. If you aren't a fluent speaker invite a friend who is and wouldn't mind bargaining on your behalf.
