Good inexpensive Chinese take out. The food is made to order so it's always fresh and hot when you pick it up. Covid19 precautions mean you cannot enter the restaurant. When you arrive you speak thru a speaker in the door. They put your order in a pass thru cubby in the door. They close their door and you open yours for a hands free delivery. Chiang Jiang's website ordering is user friendly. The menu is extensive, naming the dishes but not listing the ingredients. If you're not familiar with Chinese food this could be a problem. We ordered the combo plates which includes fried rice and an egg roll. The garlic chicken (thin slices of chicken, baby corn, green peppers, mushrooms and broccoli) was flavorful and lightly sauced. The Szechuan beef (thin slices of very tender beef, onions, green peppers and matchstick carrots) was missing the spiciness we were used to in this dish. Both the egg drop soup and hot and sour soup were excellent. The fried wonton strip accompanying them were stale. After a few minutes in the toaster oven they crisped right up. Hot and ready in minutes. I always order online and pay when I get there. It's simple and efficient. For $50 (incl tip) we are enable to feed our family of 4 + leftovers for work the next day. The depth of Smokey flavor from their woks is delicious. I've had their orange chicken, cashew chicken, lo mein, crab rangoons, veggie rolls and we ALWAYS get the house rice. Chang Jiang is clutch for those nights where idk what to cook or don't feel like cooking-but you don't want fast food or bland fried food. My photo has the addition of sweet/sour sauce and sriracha (from home) on top of the house rice and beef lo mein. Another note, my food is always packaged great! I've ordered from this location for more than 7 years, and usually have decent experiences. Tonight was an absolute joke. I placed the order online at 5:30 PM and specified a 7:15 PM pickup. I arrived at 7:15 and the food was ice fucking cold. Usually their food is still hot the next day. Clearly they cooked the order and bagged it up at 5:30 when I placed it, rather than just before the 7:15 pickup time. They also screwed me out of the sauces and dips for our appetizers, so they were cold and bald. One thing I learned...Chinese food has no flavor when it's cold. I won't go back to Chang Jiang on Raymond Road, and I'm not too happy they sneakily tack on a tip when you order online. read more

The chicken and beef were excellent quality and tender. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. We even received a free 2-liter of soda because of how much we ordered. I was excited about potentially finding a place we could regularly order Chinese food from and have it delivered. There are 3 of us that ordered. Food was average. Delivery time was within an hour. Delivery person was extremely unprofessional and messed with our property and then laughed about it when we called him out on it. After talking about how cool our giant icicle was with my roommate for a few minutes at our door -- and after my roommate stated that we really liked the icicle this year because it's the first time in over 5 years that it extended from the roof all the way down to the ground -- my roommate gave the delivery guy a $5 tip. As the driver started to walk to his car and my roommate was shutting the door, we suddenly saw the reflection of something bright and shiny flying through the air, followed by a maniacal laugh and crunching, thud noises. The driver had jumped over our porchside frozen tundra snow hill and punched (or kicked?) the 6'+ tall icicle free, sending it flying into pieces through the air. We were stunned, speechless (at first) and just like that, our whole meal was ruined before we even started eating. I feel it was extremely unprofessional, especially when we opened the door back up to shout at the delivery guy about how uncool his little stunt was, and he started laughing at us again. I don't appreciate anyone messing with people's property like that, especially when they're on the job! We're never ordering from there again... Typical take out chinese food. I try to order something different every time; because there's so much to choose from. I've been here four times. They've all been consitantly good every time. I like the house soup; it has all the veggies and meats. It's also has a light and clean taste. My fav. Is the chow mei fun pork. It's the best here. I Also got a courtesy 2 liter soda from my thirty four dollar order which is nice. They also place cut out cardboard for your take out thats helps out alot. Wow went there last night and ordered a bunch of food because I was hungry (don't do that lol) and received probably the best bang for the buck Asian food I've had in a long time. The two ladies who took my order were exceedingly nice and at the end I was even give a FREE 2 liter drink because "I ordered so much." That was a first for me. Usually places like these don't have good customer service, but this place went above and beyond in that realm! If I move to Madison, this will be my family's go-to quick and great Asian food. Their menu is huge too, and I just wish they had pictures to all of their items. I forgot to mention the food itself! It was super HOT! As in HOT temperature. You could tell everything was fresh based on its texture, and the fact that the cooks are right there making it and packing your food. They also wrapped my wontons and egg rolls nicely. Have been going to this place for over 20 years and time has finally caught up to them. The lady that ran the place since opening has left and so has the food quality. I drive from Verona to this spot even though Verona has a Chang Jiang because the food was always better. Since her departure the chicken quality is VERY noticeable to the downside, Generals chicken was one of the best around but is now mostly breading and stringy tough chicken. Egg rolls have been changed and so have the noodles used in Lo- Mein dishes. Sad to say but won't be making the drive anymore read more

Hands down the #1 Chinese takeout in the city. Although each location has its own menu everything I have had is great! They have lunch and dinner combos that are very reasonable and include rice and an egg roll. My favorite is the sesame chicken special but they have great tofu options of you're into that. They say 15 minutes for pick regardless of the day or time but usually have it ready is just over 10. Anything off the full dinner menu could easily be split by two or be saved for leftovers. Or if you are a big guy like me or just downright hungry, you could easily power through the whole thing. I'm actually getting hungry for it again just writing this. read more

One of my all time favorite Chinese takeout places! I have moved away from Madison and still crave the food. My sister and I would eat there at least once a week and every time I come home I make it a point to stop here. I recommend the vegetarian broccoli dish and my sister is obsessed with General Tso's Chicken. I also love hot Jasmine tea they have for you while you wait. Everytime I go to Chiang Jiang on Raymond Road I always get two orders of fried dumpling. Their dumpling sauce is not bad but it doesn't have the smokey flavor of Flaming Wok. I've been to most of the Chinese take-out restaurants in Madison but some how I just keep coming back to Chiang Jiang. I recommend the fried dumplings, Dragon & Phoenix, and Pork Roast Egg Foo Young. The only time I saw inconsistency in their dumpling was because it looked like a younger chef made them. Usually when the older chef makes the food it is pretty damn good. Most of their food is pretty good, wish I could try everything on the menu. Believe me, the skill of the chef makes the most difference. read more

This place suffers the same infliction as so many other american/chinese restaurants (by this I mean the EXACT SAME MENU as every other place! really kind of funny. It's like they have a big conference every so often and unanimously decide to create the same dishes... that or perhaps they are all under control by the Chinese Mafia! Oh my I may have just stumbled about the greatest secret in this century... ok maybe not... enough joking, back to the review.). With that said, the folks here do an excellent job and are nice people. My favorite is the dragon and phoenix (a mix of garlic shrimp and general tao's chicken with various vegetables) and I normally order wonton soup (the broth has turned out very watery sometimes but that hasn't been typical) and my wife goes for the sesame chicken and singapore noodle dish (I think that is the name but it doesn't appear on the online menu. It is a noodle dish with a yellow curry sauce with shrimp, chicken (and pork too perhaps) and variety of veggies. Keep in mind that like most of these type of restaurants it is more family style so sharing is nice. The place is not sit down, just a take out. I have to get this off my chest, I don't like their lo mein (veggie, combo, etc.). The flavor just seems off to me. Finally, this Chang Jiang is the BEST one. Only been once, don't plan to go back. I had the daily special, which was mushroom pork, and my wife had one of the tofu dishes. The pork was just bad. I know it's a strip mall Chinese restaurant, but the quality of the pork itself was poor, and it was really overcooked. It had an uncomfortable gray color to the whole thing. I will say that the fried rice that came with my meal was good, but not good enough to warrant a trip back. I'm not usually one to blacklist a restaurant after one trip, but with all of the other takeout Chinese options available, I don't see a reason to give this another try. read more

Waited about 10 mins and then was given a giant bag with all my items filled to the brim. Get home there's no family chicken fried rice. Call and they say I'm mistaken and ask me to look again ?!? Then continue to ask if I'm sure, ask me to bring bag with all items back.. so I pack up all items go back and they search the items in bag and then promptly give me my rice. Seriously I just spent $47 on your chinese food... I don't have time to drive back to your establishment and then have you check through my items after I already did.. recognize your error and stop continuing to inconvenience your customer. If you want pounds and pounds of generic asian take-out, this place is awesome. This being said, we got two dishes, egg rolls, a spring roll, and rangoon. The General's chicken was no joke, the best I've ever had. Phenomenal. Solid 4.5 stuff alone. The steak with orange was on the other extreme however. It had a funky texture and while it smelled great, it lacked any real quality other than being mush. I hate wasting food, but it quickly ended up in the trashcan and was inedible. The egg rolls and spring roll were dull, which is pretty standard all around. The rangoon had a lot in them, but were very sweet, far more so than I expected. This place does deliver though, which is a huge plus, though be careful what you order, as it's very hit-or-miss. Then again, you get what you pay for, and it's exactly what you'd expect. read more

I had the combination plate C26 (General Tso Chicken) since some yelpers raved about this dish and to be honest, I liked the sauce but I didn't like it had so much breading I could not even taste the chicken inside (if there was any). The accompaniments were a pork fried rice (that was tasty) and a pork egg roll (same as most other chinese places) very chewy and a bland flavor. My hubby had the #66 (Kung Bo chicken) and he said there wasn't anything exciting about it. I really don't know if we will order again from this place. read more

I go here often, My family has diverse taste and we can usually accommodate everyone without any issues, Vegetarian's are happy, combo meals are great - the eggrolls though large are extremely tasty. However, we placed a small order for two over the phone, and somehow half the order was incorrect - they gave us entirely different dishes! It's a Chinese American take out/delivery place. It's pretty much standard Americanized food, so, if you go in with that mindset, you'll be satisfied. I always get the mu shu with tofu, and yep; it's just as good as other "Chinese" joints. Prices were typical of what I would expect, about $9-$12 for a typical entrée, so not terribly expensive. The PuPu Platter appetizer was pretty good and came with a lot of variety. The Pork Fried Rice was just okay...nothing special, but not bad. And finally, the sesame chicken was just not good. The pieces seemed to be a lot more breading that was VERY crunchy than actual chicken...in fact I'd say that it was just chicken trimmings. Disappointing. I miss this place so much! We moved about 15 miles away, but I still have their number in my favorites because I will order when in the neighborhood. There is no dining area, this is carry-out only. I have rarely had a mistake or bad order in over 6 years of getting food here pretty regularly. Don't be put off by the somewhat rushed phone manners of staff when ordering- the food is good! I love the Gen. Tso's chicken, kung bao chicken and garlic shrimp. The mushroom egg foo young is delish also. Their crab wontons are good, but the shrimp toast is the best- always puffy and yummy. Whenever I want great carry out this is where I go. Highly recommended. The food is always prepared fresh and have never had a bad meal.
