I signed my husband and myself up for Chantel's Turbo EFT Couples Intensive session for $4700. I had heard great things about it, and I had also seen the statistics on the effectiveness of EFT for couples. Three big things my experience taught me are 1) it takes lots of time (ie months) to build rapport with a therapist or coach, and studies show that rapport is essential to the healing process. 2) the healing process itself takes time, and it really cannot be rushed. 3) covert narcissism, dependent personality disorder or any other personality disorder that might be present in a marriage (and going undiagnosed) are very difficult for any professional to tease out and effectively manage without the gift of time and the opportunity to recognize patterns. While Chantel was nice and friendly, there was somehow some confusion on her part about what we paid her for. I also don't know that she went into our couples session with an open mind. I believe our situation was more unique than she anticipated, and even in the aftermath of our failed session, I'm not sure that she grasps that. All this to say, I wouldn't recommend the Intensive EFT Couples Session. I don't think Sue Johnson, the founder of EFT, would recommend it either. Granted, to be fair, we didn't actually get the Turbo EFT that we paid for. Im not entirely sure what we got, but I maintain that the healing process and building rapport can't and shouldn't be rushed. After sharing some of this feedback with Chantel, she provided us with a 50% refund as a way to repair, and she offered to have another session with us. We opted to only take the refund without the do over since the intensive session was traumatizing. When one partner is incapable of empathy and accountability, investing additional time and/or money in couples therapy isn't wise. It is truly a waste unless both partners are aware of and committed to doing the personal inner work that's required for secure attachment. read more

My wife and I have had 3 sessions with Chantel and we probably won't use her again. She doesn't listen. One she picks a "direction" that's where her questions and comments tend to support. She's not cheap either; $200 a pop only for her not to listen is a no! Furthermore, in all our sessions with her she was late. How unprofessional is that?! read more

If you are having a difficult time with your partner, go see her!!! Chantel does a great job with gay couples. With all of the external stresses of being gay in a mostly straight and often hostile society, sometimes normal internal stressors within a relationship can become magnified and even seem insurmountable. She is exceptional at dissecting relationships, facilitating communication both in and out of session, and invests a lot personally in the success of the relationships she counsels. Personally, I have a high level of functioning and have a professional education. I have had experience with counseling before and I have a great deal of respect for the ways she counsels clients. She does NOT encourage co-dependency during her counseling, rather, her goal is for you to develop the skills necessary to maintain and nurture your own relationship. For the tough times, she makes herself available if and when you need a booster. read more

When my wife and I started seeing Chantel we were in a rough place. We had lost our ability to communicate in an effective way. My fiancé and I visited Dr. Cohen for pre marital counseling back in February, and although neither of us had ever been to any type of counseling before, we did not feel like beginners! Dr. Cohen was extremely welcoming and thorough, she spoke with us about so many different topics we had never even considered discussing prior to marriage. Counseling is definitely one of those things I'm not sure if you know you need, until you go! It was truly an amazing experience, and I wish I could afford to visit Dr. Cohen every week on my own. She truly has a gift of making you feel completely at home. Although things are going well in our relationship, we plan on visiting Dr. Cohen before or soon after the big day, just to keep nourishing and building our solid foundation of a relationship. During the session, she started talking about random things that had nothing to do with what I was coming to her for, but I still scheduled another session. After the session, I politely told her that I didn't get anything out of the session, she then cancels the session that we scheduled, charged me for the session, and then blocks me from her cell phone. read more

Chantel is an amazing marriage counselor and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve any part of their relationship. My husband and I began to see her when we were recently married--we knew we loved each other--but we also knew that we fought a lot, and wanted to lay down a stronger foundation for the years to come. We worked with Chantel for a year--over the course of that year we learned amazing exercises to help to build and strengthen our bond--and I'd say the biggest thing we learned was to recognize our pattern of fighting, which it turns out is how we fight every time--and we learned how to stop this pattern of fighting in the moment, as well as strategies for how to communicate so as not to get to that point of heated fighting to begin with. We learned what the other needs and how to meet those needs and have our own needs met. We learned a lot about ourselves as individuals. Chantel was recommended by a friend of mine for a combination of issues I was dealing with at the time. I liked the fact that she combined cognitive therapy with career coaching/direction as I was suffering from anxiety due to a longer than normal transition in my career. Our initial conversation was via phone and I could tell right away she was not the normal 'get in and get out' therapist. She spoke with me at length and asked me pertinent and relevent questions regarding my situation so she could figure out how to proceed with me when we met (unheard of nowadays). Upon meeting her in person, I could tell she was genuinely interested in my well-being and was definitely a 'people' person. Unlike many therapists who have their fancy degrees and ask you the same educational based questions, Chantel genuinely engages you. She also will transistion from counseling to career coaching within the same session so this makes for a 'doubley' successful session, leaving you feeling as you have definitely gotten your money's worth. Unfortunately I moved out of state, so I was not able to continue my relationship with her. But in an addendum to her kindness, she is willing to continue our relationship via video conferencing, which again, is also almost unheard of within her industry. If you want a genuine and resourceful person to help you, regardeless of your current struggle, you will not be disappointed by Chantel. read more
