Plan B turned out to be so much better than Plan A in this case. We had been to Careyes in 2018, when we stayed in Cuixmala. I fell in love with this slice of paradise where you barely run into any people. And, during covid, it was the perfect place to escape to. I had heard of Las Almandas during our 2018 visit since it is owned by another Goldsmith. I've also seen it on social media and wanted to try staying here as it looked so beautiful. The hotel is exactly how you see it in photos. Everyone at the resort was so accommodating and friendly, especially to my son. They were very flexible with plans snd took the time to get to know us and cater to us. The 1st night we were there, we were literally the only guests on the property so we got the full attention of all staff!! There was a little issue we encountered towards the end of our stay but the staff was extremely quick to resolve it and to make it right. I've stayed at many other high-end resorts that charge way more but don't have the same level of customer service the staff here has. While the resort itself and the rooms aren't fancy or as upgraded as other places, the whole experience is a true luxury that I prefer (barely any guests to run into, customized/tailored activities and service, private excursions, etc). Not many people know about this area of Mexico and I hope it stays that way. Would definitely come back to Las Alamandas soon!

The floor flooded every time I showered. The shower handle sprayed water everywhere because the nut wasn't properly secured. Metal fixtures were rusted. The bathroom constantly smelled like urine because there are sewer drains in it. The elevator doors don't have sensors, so they slam shut on you. The on-site store looks like a food pantry. Room service is genuinely worse than airplane food. I ordered multiple items throughout the week to give it a fair shot, and some of it made frozen Costco pizza seem gourmet. On the last night, room service left a tray of dirty dishes and unfinished food outside my door overnight. A lemur was eating out of it. They also left an extra ironing board in the middle of my room. Laundry instructions were unclear: it said anything picked up before 11 a.m. would be returned by 6 p.m., but they didn't pick mine up until 3 p.m., even though I made it available at 9 a.m. Now I have to figure out how to get my laundry before checkout tomorrow. Also worth noting: getting here is not easy. This is definitely not Manzanillo. It's not near Manzanillo and not easily accessible unless you have a car--which, thankfully, I did. And honestly, the town of Manzanillo itself isn't very charming. Save your money and go to Puerto Vallarta or Cancún.

There aren't many hotels but this one for the price is a great deal. They are on the beach with a regular size infinity pool and little wading pool attached for the kids. This is a family oriented place. Lots of kids and young families. They have a restaurant bar near the pool and the food and drinks are decent as well as the prices. Simple and good service. The best rooms (there are 5) are the bottoms floor next to the pool and beach view for the same price. Some even have kitchenettes for longer stays. The rooms are basic but functional and have keys and remotes for the fan and TV that you have to turn in when you leave. They also have towels for the pool area/beach. Lots of people on the beach selling food and trinket's as well as aquatic activities. In the summer the ocean is warm like bath water and hot and humid. No make necessary!!! Great place to relax and enjoy. Get a henna tattoo for fun or braids and maybe even a massage. At night a couple of bar options and places to eat cheap. The only down side are the towels in the rooms are really flimsy and thin but the AC worked perfect and thats what you need the most when you sleep. Its a good deal for the price. :)

This hotel is not on the beach and is steps from it. It has various rooms and a small reception area where the guy that checks you in never seems to be at. When we arrived no one was there. I had to call him and he said he would be back in 10 minutes like really casually. Didn't care about check in time even though I was early. House keeper checked us in and took us to the last room available the "suite". It is a basic room that is spacious (see video) and has a ceiling fan and AC. Its on the 3d floor and has a crappy TV with a balcony and bathroom. The view from the balcony is nice you can see everything. The furniture is very rustic and dated but clean. Towels were 2 and that was it. You can walk to everything from here. Store, bars, restaurants. Barra is small. So thats a plus. We spent all afternoon at my sister in laws hotel and when we got back even though the AC was left on the room is barely tolerable. I even have the fan on and its just barely cutting it. Its summer and hot as heck and humid. But I think if your a baller on a budget and not picky about luxury this is the place for you. With taxes it was 1,400 pesos a night. 3 people can easily sleep here and they do have a safe. The door has a very simple lock on it but its all families around here and is safe. You also see a lot of little lizards all over the place. Noise factor: I can hear the music from the bars nearby but were so tired from sun and sand at this point that it doesn't even bug me. There is only 1 luxury hotel in Barra and this is not it. But for this price what do you expect? We check out tomorrow but at least now I know another option here. I can handle 1 night. The nearest airports are in Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo which are about 2 hours away. We decided to make it a tour and fly in to Puerto Vallarta and make our way there to Punta Perula, and then fly back from Colima to get a taste of three different cities in one trip. Now I wish that we would have stayed in Punta Perula at least one more day because it was so relaxing there that we did not want to leave! This is a beautiful home inside and out - it is an authentic Mexican home with a modern, unique take. To begin with, the home is situated in a small town with about less 500 people, so talk about privacy! There's a long driveway at the front and the house is more towards the back so you will definitely feel the sense of privacy they are going for. You will be greeted by Rocky the Labrador who is absolutely adorable and super friendly. Once inside the house, you hear the waves from the beach just steps away from the home so you will most like want to drop your bags in the foyer and run to the beach as we did! We made sure to book in advance to assure we reserved the Josephine Suite in time since it has a balcony overlooking the ocean - we are definitely glad we stayed in that suite as it was such a delight going to sleep and waking up to the relaxing ocean waves. Plus the view is absolutely amazing as you see the palm tree walkway leading up to the beach out front. Our bedroom was decorated in beautiful pink bugambilia flowers and champagne to celebrate our weekend getaway - it was just so perfect to begin our stay here. We were provided with a beach towel to enjoy the beach and a shower towel to clean up after. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are also included in the bathroom so you don't have to worry about packing these things in your luggage! Also, upon request, Jacky was nice to give us a tour of the other suites since the other guests had not arrived yet and the rooms were chic and cute as well so it would not have been a problem if we had any other room since the beach is still out front anyways! Once situated, we left for a dip in the beach! As for food, Jacky and Rambo do offer dinner upon advance request. We decided to keep our options open and opted for the taco shops outside the B&B at the town center right around the corner as well as the seafood restaurant right next door. Jacky and Rambo do, however, offer drinks as per the menu we found in our room, and when we were chatting with Jacky and Rambo we were happy to hear that they will be working on setting up a bar in the B&B for even more drinking options which will be a great addition! Plus, Jacky and Rambo will do anything they can to make your stay a happy one! They were such great hosts! Overall, we loved every minute of our stay there! It is such a romantic and private getaway for you and your loved one to relax away from the busy day-to-day life. We will definitely be back sometime soon.
