    49. Chicken Burrito
    Jacqueline C.

A Thursday morning lunch. We were seated promptly. The service was OK., but not especially friendly. They were there to do their job and that's what they did not one smile. It did not take long for our orders to come out. I ordered a chicken burrito enchilada style otherwise a wet burrito with beans no rice. I did not get to taste the chips and salsa, but after I tasted my burrito, I did add a spoon of salsa to the burrito to see if it would help with the flavor. The chicken did not taste much like anything and the texture was a bit tough for shredded chicken. I didn't not mind the taste of the beans but for the first time that I can't remember, I did not finish my burrito nor did I take home anything that was left on my plate. The people that sat across from me also said that they were not excited about their burritos. One of them had the pork burrito and one of them had the chicken burrito without the sauce on top. They did not finish their food and they did not take it with them. I think that the prices are OK and if you just have a taste for Mexican food, it's OK to stop in and maybe take it home in fix it up to taste a little more flavorful. It wasn't awful, but it just wasn't something I would come back for nor would I recommend my friends to come and try. I really wanted to like it. Maybe we'll come back one day and try drinks and appetizers.

I chose Chapala Mexican Restaurant for lunch because my boyfriend and I were both craving Mexican food when we were recently in Las Vegas. We saw online that they've been in business since 1965! The location was moderately busy when we went in. The interior was a bit dated but very clean. We were seated right away and the wait staff immediately brought out waters, chips, and two types of salsa. Word to the wise: the hot is really hot! We stayed with the mild. I asked the waiter if there were any lunch specials and he let us know that one of the fajita plates was $2.00 off. We both ordered iced tea, which was wonderfully strong. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fajitas and I ordered the cheese enchilada ranchero with rice and beans. The food came out quite quickly. The fajitas came with two huge tortillas. When they were full of the chicken, veggies, rice, etc., they were like a full-sized burrito. My cheese enchilada ranchero was delicious and full of flavor. We will definitely visit this restaurant again next time we're in Las Vegas.

Long time customer, first time reviewer. My husband introduced this place to me 12 years ago, he's been going since he was a kid. We've always been treated well and enjoyed our meals. In this age of flashy restaurants selling high priced vibes over quality food Chapala's stays true to what's good - friendly service and tasty food.

    Husband loves the chilaquiles.

Been a year or more since we ate at Chapala's and I was craving their green chile verde sauce over cheese enchiladas. Growing up in Yuma I was raised on green chile enchiladas and Chapala makes them exactly as El Charro does. Same restaurant that needs new carpet and a fresh coat of paint, sometimes the food is hot and sometimes it's not. But this night it was great!! Love that they give GENEROUS portions of two types of salsa with chips and NEVER charge extra if you want a little more. Their prices are the best also.

Came here for lunch on a Monday and was seated quickly. We ordered a variety of dishes to share and everything was delicious! They have some really good menudo. I'd come back just for that! I also really enjoyed their chips. I think we got a fresh batch and they were still slightly warm when served to us. Overall, great experience. It is a bit pricey in my opinion but the food and serving sizes are proportionate to the price.

Today we visited again and unfortunately things have not improved since we visited last year. The decor is still in desperate need of an update and a good cleaning, the service was spotty and unprofessional (it wasn't even busy and everyone seemed in their own world), and the prices have gone up. While the guacamole is still decent, everything else was subpar, including the highly touted Chapala chicken (dry, flavorless, forgettable) and the chili relleno (rubbery and reheated). It actually felt insulting to be charged their new higher prices for such mediocre food. It's really sad to see a restaurant that's been here for so long just fall so completely flat. Unfortunately we will not be back.

The box on top was too heavy for the cheap box underneath.

The service moved quickly, even with a steady crowd, and the food was worth the stop. If you're on the Strip and happen to catch a shorter line, don't pass up the opportunity. I really like the interior decor which is like a very contemporary and upscale Mexican. They have a variety of table and booth seating and a large bar. Our server, Hunter, was very friendly and attentive. He always ended every interaction with "have fun!" I tried the "el corazon" sangria which was delicious! It had a wonderful, warm flavor with a light hint of cinnamon yet it was still cold and refreshing! A cool tip - each drink comes with a little card with a symbol on it and the drink ingredients. Save this card! At each table is a game board of sorts that offers various prizes as you match the cards on the game board sort of like bingo. We really enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa, and we tried the traditional guacamole with vegetables as well. The guacamole was wonderfully cool and creamy and flavorful. For my entree, I tried the chicken fajitas which is served on a steaming platter with various accompaniments. This was also very delicious, and the chicken was quite flavorful and juicy. A small side note - it was served with a cous cous of sort, but I think I would've preferred a simple Spanish rice. The chicken portion size also seemed a bit smaller than when we get fajitas at Chili's. I would recommend you get double meat if you want to share. We decided to try the chocolate flan and the fried ice cream sundae for dessert. I preferred the flavor of the flan and the unique textures of the flan which had the jiggly caramel flan part on top of a more cake like chocolate part below. I honestly think the fried ice cream was not too good. It did not taste freshly fried, and the coating was very dry and brittle and hard to eat. I prefer the places that serve the fried ice cream warm with a very bubbly crust that is both crunchy outside and a bit soft inside. This was not that. Overall, though, we really enjoyed the dining experience here! We will probably return and try their weekday "Fajitas and Ritas" special! I recommend Hola!

However, it was $20, and I still felt like I needed another burrito afterward. The carne asada nachos looked were made with a mix of ground beef and carne asada instead of just carne asada. The most disappointing item was the $15 bean and cheese burrito. I included a photo in this review because it was mostly tortilla, and the cheese wasn't even melted. As for the churros, we originally ordered regular churros, but they told us they didn't have plain churros available on a Friday night, so we were pushed into getting the strawberry ones instead. Despite being strawberry flavored, they were drenched in cinnamon and sugar. They were awful.
