It's kind of like a stage version of the bar in 'The Shining' without all the creepiness and ghosts. A low, open stage with heavy theatrical curtains at the back opens onto a ballroom-esque space with rich red and gold carpeting. To get there you go about a curved staircase from a marble foyer and past a little bar tucked in the corner of the front room. It's all about the old world charm and atmosphere that really heightens the performances. There's an alright selection of beers, and the prices are within the average. They also have some acoustic performances in the front room on occasion. The Thornbury Theatre is a requisite experience for music and other live performance lovers alike.

The space itself is old and somewhat dilapidated, but with a bunch of character. The sound set up is never great and clearly the place could do with some equipment upgrades, but there's a charm to the venue that makes you forgive all of it's problems. Also, it has the biggest disco ball I've ever seen, which provides something interesting to look at when you get bored by whatever is happening on stage. For me I was a little bored, although I did learn something interesting about the Victorian maritime system; yet there isn't overly too much to look at, so again this establishment is slightly overrated in my eyes; I was bored. However for families that put on special events like family fun day where children can get their face painted and receive goodie bags, and also get the opportunity to dress up as pirates; only to name a few different activities as part of their family fun days which children get to relish. It is popular among families, and expect to be patient when queuing to get in. Luckily there is a cafe pit stop to enjoy the end of the journey, although I cannot comment much on this cafe because I decided to pass on my coffee on this occasion. I was definitely irritated and out of breath by the time I made it to my seat lol. If you require one, definitely ask before you start walking. I saw people with drinks, water, and cocktails during intermission. The venue has charm I'm just unsure about its accessibility.

So interesting to wander and see how movies are made as well as props from movies and television shows. Loved the section on animation. Grab a disc to collect information that you can view later about what you experienced. Definitely worth a short or long detour to ACMI.

We were walking around Melbourne and checking out it without a real purpose and saw a sign saying…read morethat entrance was free. You only had to pay extra if you wanted to experience the exhibit they have running at the time, which would probably be worth it. It seems to be a rotating exhibit. The free part was about the moving picture over the years. When you go in they give you this little disk that had a unique code and probably an nfc chip so you can tap it at each exhibit you liked to "collect" it and go to a website later and vote so the things you saw once again. This really makes you want to check more exhibits out and go all around. I think I connected 45 because at the end they have a spot to check how many exhibits you collected. They even had a station where you could create your own flip book. You would stand in front of a screen which would record you mongering for 3-5 seconds and then at the gift shop you could see the flip book and but it if you wanted. My wife and I both bought ours.. a more personalized souvenir. At the end they have a few kiosks where you can tap your cats to donate and we did that because this is definitely an experience that is worth staying around. I ain't it must get really busy on the weekends, but during the day in a weekend, it was the right amount of busy. I would definitely check it out and kids would love it.

Not a huge theater but still not small. Parking can be the fun bit especially if your not familiar with the area, always good to check out the option prior to getting there. They have a good selection of foods And drinks to enjoy while watching the show they are a little on the expensive side but it's what you expect when going out really. The seats are a bit old but are in theme with the decor of the theater. The other facilities are nice, there clean and easily accessible depending on the crowd at the time. Would happily come back and see another show.

Flanked by a staircase on either side, the ushers directed us up the right-hand side staircase to where we would be further directed to our seats. There was a bar both upstairs and downstairs that served Lion King themed libations, as well as kiosks to purchase official merchandise. They wave programs in your face and when you express interest you learn they're $20 (yikes!), so I opted for the $15 coffee mug instead that will last me a heck of a lot longer than a paper program. The theatre itself is gorgeous inside, with ample stadium seating so that everyone has a clear view of the stage no matter how far away. Once of the biggest and only downsides to Regent Theatre is the lack of knee/leg room in case you need to get up during the show. There is LITERALLY no room to squeeze by your neighbour - they will need to stand up to let you by which understandably gets annoying very quickly. The speakers and sound was brilliant, the orchestra brought tears to my eyes, and the actors themselves were stunning. The woman who played Rafiki had one of the most moving voices I have ever heard in my entire life - she really helped bring my most special childhood movie to life. It was a beautiful evening of unforgettable stage design, songs and visual imagery. I would definitely return to Regent Theatre to see another show if ever back in town.

Anyway, when I remembered it again I decided to go back and check it out and I must admit that like the first time I came here it was still a pretty cool experience. Basically it is what you would expect from your typical lounge bar - lounges, craft beers on tap as well as a good selection of spirits, and cool, soothing music. As an added bonus this place also has a pretty decent sized beer garden out the back, though I've noticed that I lot of people end up out there than actually in the bar itself (which is a shame considering that it is inside the bar that is actually the cool part of it). Oh, there are also some really cool seats just inside the entrance that look out onto the street.

The location of the Centre proved to be quite a challenge to designer Ashton Raggatt McDougall, being situated on post war sloping hills and uneven ground he had to come up with something special in order to achieve acoustic quality. The building seems to be covered in an irregular honeycomb shaped pattern giving it a shell like texture. At night time light escapes through some of these shells and makes for a beautiful structural appearance. The Recital Centre showcases a range of different performances from stage shows to music performances and even has some amazing artwork displayed on level 1. You can organise to have a guided tour of the MRC in which you will be atken throughout the building and can learn all about the design of the performance spaces, appreciate the artwork and explore backstage. The tours will set you back $15 full price and $10 for concession and they last usually about 1 hour, well worth it if you have time and are wanting to explore Melbourne.

By some stroke of luck we managed to secure ourselves a couple of tickets to see Waiting for Godot…read morebefore it sold out. Daunting however, was arriving and finding ourselves in the fourth row. The thought of being THAT close to Sir Ian was more than little-old-me could handle. Nevertheless, a good glass or two of the Comedy Theatre's bubbly sorted me out and made me feel just hazy enough to relax and not tense up everytime Sir Ian did turn his gaze our way. The Comedy Theatre is elegant with its obvious Spanish influences. It's smallish size means that even those in the back rows will get a pretty good view.

The comedy theatre gets some of the best acts, come comedy festival time. I saw Keating here a few…read moreyears back, actually shed a tiny tear at the end. (This was when that rodent was still in charge, of course). I saw Steven Curry and Shaun Micallef's take on Peter Cooke and Dudley Moore a year or two later, came away a little disappointed. Good in concept, didn't really work well enough in execution. Point is, though, that they get the good shows in.
