In short, WEIRD, staff seem stressed, and there are far better cafes close by. I've always wanted to love this cafe, it's near by, it's in a great location, and their menu is enticing. The staff seem like their always under the pump when the cafe is barely at half capacity, which makes me feel like the management is really pressuring their staff - I also keep seeing their previous staff at other cafes loving life, and saying as much. On top of that, the pricing.. it's insane, there is no consistency, and a Ruben with chips FOR $30? In what world is that reasonable? This little cafe is on the corner of the strip of shops and parking is right out front. From what I can tell it looks like it used to be or next to an ex video rental store as there are markings on the road for video rental parking. I loved the wallpaper and design that they've put into the place. Menu was easy to read and wasn't overly littered with choices. Service was a little slow and hard to get a waitress's attention but the quality and taste of the food made up for this. Felt just like being an inner suburb cafe only further away from the city. Great coffee, in a funky atmosphere. This cafe has the look and feel of an inner city cafe but is out in the burbs which is a massive plus for those of us not working or living in. The food is of a good, often great quality and the free wifi is a huge plus. The only drawback is having nowhere to plug your laptop/tablet in while working. There's also plenty of room for prams which is important as there's often quite a few of them here on weekdays for lunch! The kids menu helps with the family friendly feel too. This cafe is located in a row of shops that have about 4 other cafes but this one would be my top preference at the moment. Barclays down the road is pretty good also. I would rate Chapter too quite high! Awesome decor. They serve 5 senses coffee.The staff is great and so is the atmosphere. Seats are not crowded, the tables are well spaced, allowing mums with prams to easily navigate inside. They have a communal table on the inside, well actually - it is made up of a few tables kinda stacked on top of each other. Pretty cool. They have outside seating, their menu is small menu but everything looks good and they have many different options for breakfast which I appreciate. Their serving plates are also very cool - chips and my mini bircher got served in mini terracotta pots. Win! read more

So this place is cool, really cool and I will definitely be back again. Unfortunately I didn't get an amazing dish which warrants my four star rating... I am hoping to update it though to five stars on another visit. I tried the asian seafood salad, which had amazing seafood but unfortunately a more boring salad with little seasoning. I've seen reviews where he has asked people to leave who either don't order enough or, in the case of my party, wanted a very simple variation. Unfriendly and an extremely bad vibe. First time yelp reviewer! Wow this place is amazing. It definitely deserves a higher rating. They quickly brought us our coffees, which were prepared perfectly. Then we got the large sharing breakfast, I wish we had gotten a picture before we destroyed it! The waitress said it was meant for two people, and we easily were able to share with four--with leftovers remaining. So much food, and the quality was absolutely incredible! We also got the muesli, which was another surprise winner. It came in a huge bowl, and us non yogurt eaters ate the whole thing. Hands down the best breakfast we've had in the Melbourne and surrounding area. If you're like me and favor places with higher yelp reviews, give this place a chance-you won't regret it! read more

I called into this café for a light breakfast, I ordered toast and a cappuccino, and I was shocked by what I received, the 2 slices of sour dough toast were massive and with rhubarb jam, it tasted fantastic, the coffee was lovely and I was very pleased to be able to read the morning paper whilst having my breakfast, it was a most delightful dining experience 10/10 read more

Poor value. They ask a lot for the basics. Their food isn't bad but they charge like wounded bulls for what you get. Eggs on toast is a crazy $13 for one stingy slice of toast with some scramble on top. Add two extras and your basic simple brekky is over $20. What a rip off! The straw to break the camel's back is that if you ask for a little more butter than the scanty blob they gave you, they charge you for it. These are money hungry, delusional owners. Well it's not nice I got a small Pice of. Toast with my parched eggs as I wanted to order a Benedict and all I wanted to do was to change the ham to Bacon and I was told I can't have any variation so I had no choice but to order it all separate which cost me over $27 when it was only 16 and I only got one piece of toast with two small parched eggs and burnt bacon not good there are better places around or should open up as I would make a killing I would think twice going there read more

I went in to buy a coffee and a warm soy milk. The man behind the counter charges me the same for a warm milk as a coffee. $4 for a cup of warm milk!! The justification was that it is the same amount of milk As in a coffee!! So the coffee is worth nothing! read more

Great food. ALWAYS BOOK. It's very busy for weekend breakfast and you need to book TWO WEEKS in advance. Service can sometimes be a little slow with staff standing around chatting but not all the time. Coffee is superb and the menu is good if not diverse. Food quality is really good and ingredients seem fresh and thought has gone into presentation with nice plates etc. great for meeting friends and they accept children and have high chairs. read more

I'm done with this place. Been a heap of times but find them overpriced. Had an issue with my wife's breakfast toast and when paying there was no offer to reduce the price on the bill. Asked the question and it was pretty much not an option so payed and told them I will never be back. Go to the Village Food Store instead. read more

We were walking past at afternoon tea time so decided to pop in; got a confusing reaction and discovered it was 15 minutes until closing. So we decided cakes & milkshakes so that we could eat before closing. It was all average, especially the cake & tart, and I was very surprised at the high prices given the low quality. read more

Went there a couple of days ago, they were not super busy. Coffee was very average, no more than a 6/10. I ordered a vanilla slice which was stale, I made a comment to the waitress and she said she would communicate it back to the chef. Thankfully it was removed from the bill but the fact that it was served in the first place is poor. I won't be going back there. read more
