We had reservations for Saturday evening at 6pm on August 7, 2021. Drove from Moundsville only to find the parking lot was completely full. We tried parking across the street at the plaza and we were informed by a off duty Bethlehem police officer that was on security duty that we would be towed if we parked and went across the street to eat. We called the other couple that we were having dinner with and they canceled the reservations. They were told that we could park at the baseball field up the hill if we liked. We won't be back to this establishment. It's a shame they don't work out agreement with the plaza owner for parking. It's a much longer walk and more hazardous to cross from the ball park than it is from the plaza. It's a shame too because we were really looking forward to our first experience at this restaurant. There are no pics of their dining room that I could find. **DON'T ORDER THE $51 STEAK**** Ordered two steak dinners to go for a special occasion. Each steak was priced at $51 each. Steaks were over cooked, burnt and had no good flavor. Tasted like rubber. Called the restaurant back and they blamed me for ordering steaks to go. Offered me a gift card and I said I wanted my money back. I picked it up this morning (they did not give me full refund) and owner and his dad verbally attacked me when I got there. Told me to never come back. They had plenty of customers left regardless of the many bad reviews over the internet. "Go ahead and post a bad review we don't care we are packed here every night". Well here it is. These people are unprofessional and think they can just overprice everything and take your money regardless of the quality of food and service. We were on our way back from a convention in Indy and were making a pit stop in W.V. we checked into our hotel and we're looking for a place to get a great dinner. After searching reviews I came across the Char House. I'm SO glad I did!! The outside patio was amazingly beautiful!!! The inside was as well. We were seated and our server Amanda couldn't have been any better!! She was personable, super friendly and had a great sense of humor, which with us that means a lot!! We started off with the french onion soup and tomato bisque, both were delicious! Sometimes french onion soup is too salty, watery, etc. But this was on point and a cup was just enough!Tomato bisque was creamy and fresh. We ordered the cowboy steak, vegetable pizza and a char burger. The steak was done to perfection, the vegetables on the pizza were as fresh as can be and the burger was just as good. The food was so good that I forgot to take a pic of anything else but the onion soup! For dessert my friends got the ice cream but Amanda rattled off a list of cheesecakes that sounded out of this world!! I couldn't resist the strawberry covered pound cake, it was served cut up in a bowl with ice cream, strawberry compote and whipped cream. When she came back to ask if we needed anything else I said I wish I could take 10 more of them!! We did have a little wait on the food because they had a very large party that came in a bit before us but it was worth the wait and it wasn't a tedious one. The decor, the atmosphere and our server made it pleasant! If you're in the area or passing by I highly recommend stopping here and get a table out on the deck if it's nice out!! We've eaten there several times to hit and miss reviews. Tonight was particulary poor. It is relativey expensive to eat at Char's house to begin with. Our salad had no cheese, which is specified in the menu. The salmon was dry and over cooked, the brussell sprouts werent cooked at all. Three stars only for the great service we had last night. For a party of 8 and a baby it can be a lot for a server but she was wonderful in every way. The food and atmosphere need some attention. My wife's "special" butternut squash pasta was just bad. Two overcooked garlic rolls of some kind with her pasta. I got the ahi tuna blackened. It was over-cooked and hard like well done steak. You really shouldn't need a knife to cut ahi tuna steak. My nephew got the general Tao's pizza and it just tasted like ginger sauce poured on dry chicken pizza. Sometimes bad food happens...maybe an off night. But this restaurant has "Market Price" for a few items on the menu and the frat house bathroom with hot glued beer bottle tops covering the walls was just strange and it felt like I was back in my college bar. Interestingly enough there was body wash, mens lotion x 2 and some very sketchy looking soap by the men's room sink. The food here was Delicious. I had a juice bacon burger with cheese fries. My husband really enjoyed his steak salad and my daughters shared a pepperoni pizza. After hearing several good reviews, my business scheduled a small dinner meeting here. We were put in a very cramped corner. Of the 12 orders, 4 came out at least 15 minutes before the others. Would not go back for dinner. The service was not what is necessary for the prices the are charging. I live in a city with one of the top 10 steak houses in the nation and when you pay $50 for a steak you expect a certain level of service and quality. We ordered the shrimp flight and the garlic sauce was so salty could not eat. One of our party ordered the scallops which were $40. Again, so salty and the green beans and wild rice were not even tasty. The pasta we ordered had two mini pieces of baguette as the garlic bread and the pasta had only a small amount of sauce. Luckily my husband and I were able to carry our son's stroller up/down the steps. However, something definitely needs to be in place for wheelchair accessibility and strollers. Service was incredibly slow, ordered drinks and apps, server did not take our dinner order until an HOUR after we arrived. Cant fully blame her as we were a party of 11 and she also had a party of 8 as well as a few other small tables. She should've never been given two large parties at once like that. Appetizers came out at all different times, some of our party already finished with appetizers before others received theirs. They were out of several salad dressings, and eventually ran out of COLD beer. My friend ordered another beer and was told they ran out of cold bud light. ????? Refills on drinks were non existent, we were never checked on to make sure our meals were ok or if there was anything else we needed. Again, not fully the servers fault as it was obvious she had more than one could handle. Fries were old and grease soaked, actually kind of gross. Scallops and meatballs were amazing. Burgers were "ok". Pizza was burnt, not wood fired, but literally charred. Seafood coquille was good. They have a lot of improving to do, may consider trying them again after they have a chance to work out the kinks. read more

An absolute surprise for the Valley! The moment that you walk in you feel like you are in a major city that serves specialty dishes, not just "food"! The wait staff are outstanding and friendly. The decor is unique and inviting. The bar is very well stocked. The kitchen creates delicious appetizers and entrees. What a difference fresh ingredients and creativity makes in a dining experience. The pricing is slightly higher than usual for the Valley, but on par with Pittsburgh. You definitely get what you pay for at the Char House. We will be returning for certain! read more

We had reservations at 6:00 this evening for outside. We were seated promptly. We waited until 6:30. During that 1/2 hour no one acknowledged our existence, brought water, asked if we wanted drinks. No one made eye contact with our group. At 6:30 we left and went to another restaurant. Very disappointing. read more

We ordered the Thanksgiving dinners and were very satisfied. All the food was excellent and we are happy we decided on the Char House.

We wanted to try somewhere new so we went for my dads birthday. The establishment itself is very pretty and gives an upscale and romantic ambience. Unfortunately, we will not be going back. Our waitress forgot my dads drink, the appetizer we ordered was incorrect, seafood was brought out instead which would be very concerning if I consumed this appetizer, I'm highly allergic to seafood. My pizza was incorrect, my boyfriends burger had incorrect cheese, my dad expensive lobster ravioli was a mediocre size, my moms wine was less than a quarter of the way full. Considering the pricing we were HIGHLY disappointed. If we are receiving small portions and high priced food the service should make up for it at the very least. The charcuterie board not to mention had stale cheese and had a horrible selection of cheeses and crackers. The manager did offer to try and fix our meals but at that point we were done, we tried to be patient with potential understaffing and such but we are paying for a service (an expensive one nonetheless) and when everything was messed up we were not going to pay for bad service and wrong food. read more

I am all for supporting new local business and I was very excited to try this one while visiting my hometown. The first thing I will say is that the food was less than good for the price. Dry salmon, wilted greens in the side salad and the sauce on the lobster ravioli was tasteless and basically water. The thing that I was most concerned with was their COVID precautions, because it looked like they weren't taking any. First we were sat in between two parties at a table that had a "closed due to social distancing sign on it." The hostess proceeded to take it off and walk away. My family and I were kind of uncomfortable with that. So I got up and asked to be moved. The employees at the host stand (none of which had their masks on correctly) rolled their eyes at my request but moved us anyway. Our server, Bobby who was very nice. but he had his mask pulled down the entire time that he was at our table. He also went out of his way to pull it down further when he talked tp us. While we ate we noticed that every single employee who walked by our table did not have their mask on correctly. By the time we left, all of the signs that were on tables that were supposed to be closed were gone and the restaurant appeared to be full. I wanted so bad to love this new restaurant, but with the bad food and the careless employees, that's just not possible. Definitely wont be back, and I think the health department should probably pay them a visit... There is still a GLOBAL PANDEMIC happening, they should at least act like they care. read more

Arrived at 6:30pm. Waited 20 and didn't even have a server walk by our table. Talked to the people at the table beside us and they said they had been waiting for 45 minutes and didn't have a server come to their table either! We were seated outside and I decided to get a drink at the outside bar. When I asked the bartender if I could order drinks for my table, he replied "sure, but I can't right now" and walked away. The couple seated at the bar said they also had been waiting 15 for drinks and to order, but even with a staff behind the bar, they too were ignored. Upon inquiry, we found that there were only 3 wait staff on the floor. We had enough and left. I understand that this is a new business and bugs need to be worked out, however, to have only 3 servers on a floor in a brand new restaurant is unthinkable. Even when we asked about getting service for our table, we were totally disregarded. What a shame as we were looking forward to enjoying this new restaurant. read more
