I had horrible experience at Queen Charlotte hospital Lewis Ward. The night staff was rude and…read moreapathetic. They showed no care or empathy to me while I was screaming in pain during my labour and despite asking multiple times, they REFUSED to provide me any pain medication. One of the staff members was Venus and others I do not remember. I was by myself, I kept ringing the bell and asking to assist with pain assistance but they did not budge. Venus would stand there to observe me and then just move out without any compassion or assistance. At the end I was fully dilated and they had to rush me to the labour ward for delivery. My water broke in the corridor in front of waiting patients!! As soon I reached the labour ward my daughter was born within couple of minutes. I had severe pelvic pain and diabetes in pregnancy which was not taken into consideration during my care. My pelvic pain got worse after delivery and it tooks me months to recover. I was so upset and it has taken me months to recover from the trauma of being treated horribly at Lewis Ward. I will not recommend this hospital to anyone!! Absolutely pathetic.

(welling up) Through out my entire pregnancy this hospital was like my second home (along with my local GP) I felt comfortable and in knowing hands. Even during my routine blood tests, were I fainted, they were always very helpful and by the third time they had some sweets handy, just in case. However, I will recommend to those mums to be, that care in the birth centre is so much more specialized and nurturing than in the ward. Of course, that is if you have decided for a natural birth. The midwives are gentle and understand how scary it can be, and they are there from beginning to end, you feel special. They don't let you give up. They are trying to incorporate yoga and visualisation classes as part of the ante natal clinic, which I was a test for, I hope they manage to, I believe it really helps.

I told the receptionist I was there because I thought I had the flu. I told the healthcare professional that took my temperature and blood pressure that I was there because I thought I had the flu. Neither of them told me that they don't treat my symptoms. It wasn't until I saw a doctor after four hours of waiting that I was told there is nothing to be done about the flu. The doctor was rude, too. I told him I didn't go to class because I didn't want to get anyone sick. He said, "So you came here to get the doctor sick?" THE DOCTOR IS WHO YOU SEE WHEN YOU ARE SICK. THAT IS YOUR JOB. He asked what I ate that day and the judged what I had to eat that day, "It's pretty odd to be eating that" when I'm feeling this way (Ok, so I'll starve myself. Urgent care would've cost us $150 USD, but I took the person to the emergency room, and in less than two hours we had the prescriptions we needed ... For free. I cannot be mad at a national medical system that allows anyone and everyone in need of medical help to go to a place where there are medical professionals who will actually help them...for free. You can feel any kind of way you want to about the UK, but you may not hate on their national medical system. If this was the States, they would have either NOT seen you without insurance, or you would have gotten a bill for thousands of dollars. Thousands. This was $0. ZERO 'effin dollars. Kudos, NHS.

The architecture is nice, but if you didn't know the significance of the spot, you could easily pass it without much thought. When we went, the door was partially open, so we could take a peek inside which was just a typical waiting area with seating. Finding our way back out was much easier since instead of bothering with the side streets, we went out to the main road and made our way back to Paddington Station a few minutes away.

The new Queen Marys hospital was built to replace the old one next to it where my son was born…read more22yrs ago (gosh that makes me feel old lol). It has been in use a few years now & is a nice modern structure all shiny & new with lots of glass. There is a car park next to it with easy access to the hospital via ramps & covered walkways, no stairs so easy for wheelchairs. The inside is nicely decorated, clean & shiny & all the toilets are lovely & clean. There are cafes, coffee shops, various drinks & food machines & lots of free water dispensers everywhere. It is very child friendly with a kids play area in most departments. There are lots of friendly staff around if you need help or directions.

Not to mention the long and ever so boring waits. Kill me already! In this case, I felt differently. From the moment I booked an appointment with my GP to my first pre assessment surgery and following up to my surgery and recovery, I found the process to be very quick and efficient. The staff are as nice as could be in a hospital (or at least, in front of the patients until they talk badly about them in the coffee room). The follow up from visits is quicker than they usually anticipate. For example, I was told it may take 4 weeks until I get my surgery done but next thing I know, I'm back in 2 weeks after. If they are trying to set expectations low, they are doing it very well! There is a cafeteria area on the ground floor -with outdoor sitting area- and a restaurant not too far a walk from it. If you're hesitant about hospital coffee, don't worry there's a Costa Coffee. They also have a WHSmith right by the entrance which is well needed to buy books, drinks and snacks. No more boring waits! Speaking of waiting, I personally didn't wait as much as I have done in other hospitals. There is a self check in machine by the entrance and once I arrived at the floor, my name was called out before I could take a seat. Before the operation, I had two sets of Doctors come see me to talk me through anything and assist with any queries or concerns I had. They were very clear about things they would and wouldn't during the operations which may affect one. Despite being a very busy hospital, they seemed to be organised and aware of patients. The only downfall was that there weren't enough beds to accommodate all patients. I also had a phase of bleeding and discomfort and it took a while for the doctor(s) to arrive and check on me. I do appreciate its busy but at the end of the day, something else could have happened. Overall, it's the best hospital I've been to so far and can't fault them for anything. Thank you WMX hospital!
