Wow, I went here for the first time yesterday and I was impressed across the board. My wife is from this area and said she loved this place when she grew up here and wanted to go back. This trip down memory lane for her ended up being the highlight of my day. My wife got the roasted chicken, her favorite from before, it was really good and I wouldn't have minded getting that myself. However, the waitress pulled some strings and so I could get a fried chicken and Rib combo (I was torn on which one to get) and it was amazing! The flavor of the breading on the fried chicken was good but the breading was a little thick. Which that being said, the gravy was 10/10 good so I barely noticed. The ribs were amazing, I've had better sauce but it was still good and the quality of the meat was exceptional (rare these days). Also, the service and inside the restaurant was 10/10. My beautiful Mother passed and Shelby, the manager, let our family host a celebration of life. She was 94 and 8 months, and had a good life so no crying, just good memories, appetizers, flowers and wine. Our servers Quinn and Alisa were excellent and met our every need as well as the hostess. We've been loyal guests of Charleston's in Mesa for over six years and have been dining at Charleston's locations since the Ray Road & I-10 days back in 2008-2009. This restaurant has been our favorite Sunday spot for years - but mainly because of one person: James. James has been the heart of our experience here. He's the only reason we've continued coming back week after week. We always asked to be seated in his section, and more than once, we've waited over 45 minutes just to make sure we could enjoy dinner with him as our server. That's how much of a difference he made. Unfortunately, we were shocked and deeply disappointed to learn that James was let go. Without him, Charleston's just isn't the same. We're heartbroken -not just for ourselves as long-time guests, but for the team that lost someone who truly understood service and built real relationships with his guests. We'll be keeping an eye out for where James goes next, because wherever he ends up, that's where we'll be dining. Until then, it's goodbye to what used to be our favorite place. Met friends for lunch. We were seated almost immediately. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Food came out at a nice temperature and tasted great. We ordered several different dishes and appetizers and everything was quite good. Room where we were seated was a little dark (think speakeasy style) but the booth comfortably fit eight. read more

First time at Charlestons, celebrating a birthday. Not sure what was better...the service or the food. Both were excellent! 3 of our table had filet mignon-grilled perfectly, with loaded potatoes and spicy brussel sprouts. One had the shrimp scampi and loved it. The staff is very attentive and works seamlessly together. I think our water glasses were topped up 4 times! We had a lovely evening and would highly recommend Charleston's. read more

It's been a few years since I've been here because of the pandemic! However, the shrimp cargot is still just as good as I remember! My arteries were probably hardening as I ate it, but I didn't care! It was awesome! I'll have a conversation with my cardiologist later but it was worth it! The catfish wasn't bad! I can't put my finger on what turned me off but I probably won't order it again. I had to douse it in hot sauce to give it flavor! Perhaps that was it! The service was outstanding! I sat at the bar and the young lady who waited on me was phenomenal!! Charleston Have eaten at Charleston in Scottsdale many years ago and since then the restaurant is closed up. It was my son's birthday and he chose Charleston so we said okay with no expectations. Went to dinner at 6 pm and was so busy and packed, a lot older retirement crowd, but that is ok, they always know where the best is for the money, right? Cream Spinach Artichoke Dip was delicious, would say very comparable if not equal to our favorite at Houston's. Great tasting and prepared just right. Highly recommend. Dynamite Shrimp was so good, I would highly recommend this appetizer. Just perfect and delicious Salad accompanied the entree and came with a soft delicious croissant. Solid salad and refreshing. Prime Rib with seasonal vegetables was the 14 oz cut and seemed very generous. What a pleasant experience, no expectations but a wonderful slab of meat. Just excellent! Famous French Dip meat was a little dry even when submerged in au jus. Not as famous in others kind. Overall service was excellent and what a pleasant surprise from what I remember years ago. This place knows how to make a guest feel special! I love that Kale and Quinoa salad so much I get it every time. If you haven't seen it go viral on TikTok, then just know you're missing OUT. We were served by Matt tonight who was so kind and eager to tell us... they have a Paso Robles JOSH Reserve Cabernet now. (California unlike most Josh wines that are made in Illinois). Love to find a new staple wine. Red blend lovers will enjoy it as it's not a true dry cab, and it's got just enough body that cab lovers will appreciate its unique flavor profile. (it's got aromatic notes of coffee with a raspberry finish) We surprisingly loved it even more with the prime rib. Great addition to the cab list! Ask for it so they'll keep it read more

This is my second time eating at this location and restaurant, and both times have been great experiences from a food and service standpoint. I had the special today, which was the mahi blackened with Brussel sprouts and their homemade sauce on the side which consisted of mango tomato onion . Also ordered the dynamite shrimp for an appetizer. The inside of the restaurant is a nice setting with dim lighting cozy seats in a really relaxed environment . Charleston's is our favorite restaurant to eat at when we come down from the mountains. The crescent rolls drizzled in honey are delectable. The spinach artichoke dip is out of this world. Trout and Mahi Mahi is amazing. My husband highly recommends the prime rib. If I could give a 10 star review I would. The service has always been perfection. The only downfall is they're such a popular place that the waitlist can be awhile. Best bet is to reserve ahead of time on the yelp app. Then you can walk right in and bypass the line. I'm telling you, it's been at least twenty years since I've set foot in a Charleston's, but something possessed us to visit for lunch today. For starters, the service is impeccable. The employees are all unfailing friendly and everyone who walks past will clear plates off your table, smile, and offer a greeting. It's clear that the restaurant is well-managed. The food: as a hard-core lover of any French Dip sandwich I will state that most places these days stop my heart a little when I see the price and Charleston's is no exception. $25!! I wasn't too shocked because I've paid between $20 - $22 at other spots recently, but this was a new high. I will say that the sandwich was very good though: plenty of beef, no gristle, au jus that wasn't overly salty, a nice soft roll. (In other words, all the things I could complain about.) My only wish is for that price point they would add a nice slice of fontina or provolone. Lastly, the side accompaniment of french fries were my favorite type: shoestring fries. Coming here was quite an expensive lunch for my husband and myself but it was delicious. It was also nice to be greeted warmly and be taken care of by a conscientious staff.
