I placed an online order for take out a couple nights ago and the food was ready in 15 minutes (maybe even less). There were only 2 people working so I was impressed that it was ready so quickly. Staff was very nice as well I ordered a 5 piece fish/ 5 piece wing meal and a 6 piece fish meal. Both came with fries, side of fresh greens and a roll. Ended up with some leftovers from both plates. The fish was delicious. Wings huge and super crispy. The tartar sauce was on point. Fries were alright too! The food was honestly fresh for everything being deep fried. There were a couple spots to sit inside but I got the feeling most people carry out. I'll definitely come back. I recommend this spot over other nearby fish & chip places. read more

This is our 3rd time eating there. It's true nothing is as good as the first time. But its still good. Decided to stop by here on a rainy day because we thought they wouldn't be too busy. We were wrong, it was busy. FYI we ate there 2 days in a row ...lol.. The ambiance of the place is just the typical hole'in'the'wall spot. Catfish- Delicious Catfish strips ... Seasoned and battered perfectly... No smell and tasted fresh Red Snapper- Not impressed with it being battered and fried. We would not get this again. Fried Oysters- They were good. Different but good. Good to try. Jumbo Shrimp- THE BEST EVER! Fries and Hushpuppies were good. Can't go wrong ...yummm Mac Salad was good too. Fried Chicken - it was just OK... I would NOT get this again. They looked like wingettes on steroids. I thought I was actually getting a Chicken Wings that consist of 3 parts ... They are just wingettes Black Cherry Soda ***** Delicious! .... So good we stopped by the supermarket case a case. The downside and what I noticed... So, our To-go order came out to a little over $400. This is what I noticed: When I have large orders then give me less food in each container. You get smaller portions when you have very large orders ... Considering they only had 2 employees doing everything it seemed like they were overwhelmed a bit. The phone kept ringing and customers kept walking in to order... Anyway, not only were the meals shorted fish and shrimp, but things like hush puppies and Lemmon slices were missing. I also ordered a fish sandwich . Sadly, the fish sandwich was missing the bread at first. Glad I checked my sandwich in the car . I went back for my bread. It was a mess but a good mess ***** FYI- I would never order that much food at one time again. But I was feeding 8 other people and I wanted then to taste everything. I really didn't get a chance to record or take good photos. But here is some of what we purchased the second day of eating there. My new favorite place for seafood. I ordered the 9-piece Orange Roughy, Green Salad, Macaroni Salad, and extra tartar sauce through DoorDash. The fish arrived warm, crispy, and delicious. I was surprised at how good the fish is. I also enjoyed the Macaroni Salad. The Green Salad did not pass the taste test; not enough ingredients for me. This is usually my go to for Great fish and chips. I was unable to go in person due to mobility issues. Thus I ordered online through Doordash. I was a little disappointed. I ordered my usual Jumbo shrimp. I paid $30 dollars. The shrimp did not look the same as I got when I went in person for some reason. They were fried so hard that I was unable to eat them. I will never make an online order again. This time too there was a fishy smell. I will continue to go to Charlie's because this was my first unpleasant experience. They were doing pretty good until today. I go to pickup my brother food and they charged me for the wrong order, so they reverse the charge back to my brother card which he is paralyzed. One of the better fried fish options in LA. I like Charlie's much better than Penguin Fish down the street and others East of it. They don't skimp on the portions and all of our food was cooked perfectly. They have a large menu with lots of options. The Dinner and Special options are pretty much the same, both come with a salad, roll, and fries but the Special is larger in fish count. They have a large parking lot attached to the strip mall they're located in so parking is easy. They're to-go only and are very quick so you won't have to wait long. We chose the Orange Roughy Special with was really delicious and a huge portion of food, and the Jumbo Shrimp, which were also great and much better than some other places we have been to recently. Was in the neighborhood and decided on fried fish for lunch. Thank you, Yelp family, for steering us to this hole in the wall gem. We ordered the Red Snapper 9-piece special and 8 oysters to go. It did take a while for us to get our food, but we didn't mind because we knew they were making our food fresh. As soon as we got into the car, we sampled the oysters and fries. The oysters, although small was quite flavorful. The oysters weren't too ocean-y tasting, just a hint. Definitely fresh oysters. Also, you can tell the oil they were using to cook the food wasn't old. When we got home, the Red Snapper was still warm. They were good thick pieces of fish and the batter wasn't thick. You can definitely taste the fish. Tartar sauce was included with our meal, but we favored the malt vinegar which we had at home. The inside of the eatery was very clean. The tables and chairs are dated, but since we were taking our food to go, we didn't care. All in all, a positive experience. No frills spot, just a good ole fish fry. Their product is good, but they will give you the wrong change from your purchase, and then try and give you a lesson in math, and accuse you of trying to cheat them.
