First, the selection is extremely limited. I did find a fillet that I wanted and it did look really fresh. I went to pay with my debit card and was told there is a $15 minimum. She saw me take out a couple cards while she was entering the fish into the register, so why tell me when I hand over the card? There are no signs (at least that I saw) mentioning any minimum CC purchase amount. I was willing to give it a try and was going to purchase a couple more items. However, this is 2016 and I haven't carried cash since 2004. I told the person to forget it and I left. I started going to Charlie's before it was Charlie's. The fresh seafood had always been just that - fresh, reliable, and reasonably priced. They have some prepared selections like seafood spreads that are also good to grab and take. The lunch/dinner and premade selections could be improved. My husband and I have bought a variety of dinners (fish and chips, whole bellies, stuffed sole) and find that far too often the portion sizes are small, over-inflated with french fries, or overly seasoned to the point where we just could not eat them. Luckily we live relatively close by and Charlie has righted where we have felt shorted, but for those without this luxury, you might find yourself going hungry for the night. My suggestion is to appreciate the meats and deli that are provided, but leave to cooking to someone else. read more

Very clean with a great selection. The fish is so fresh here and cut so well, I come here for my ahi tuna for making sushi. Don't forget to check the freezers for other special items not in the cases. And if you're looking for a good steak, you can't go wrong with one of Charlie's 2-inch thick rib eye cut special for you or a lobster-stuffed baked potato, or any of their other specialties including their cooked-to-order dishes.. Yikes! I went off diet to get the clams and oysters here as I had heard nothing but good reviews. In fact I was at the bank just prior and the teller couldn't say enough good things about the clams. What we got for $35+ was about 8 pieces of clam, maybe 6 oysters, a few balls of fried dough disguised as oyster, and a tiny lobster roll. Also truckloads of french fries carefully hidden under the meat to make it seem like there was much more of it there. Considering I don't eat french fries and I was splitting with a friend neither of us had enoguh food to even slightly fill us up. The clams were the equivalent of those you could get at the beach though much saltier. The oysters as low quality as you could get, the lobster was dry and didn't taste like anything. What a diamond in the rough! The outside looks low-key, almost uninviting, but I've driven past this place so many times and when I found myself in the area today I decided it was time to stop. Wow, I was quite pleased at how clean and immaculate the inside was, how fresh all of the meats and seafood looked and smelled, and how friendly and helpful the staff were. I ordered a large hot buttered lobster roll and the coconut shrimp dinner for my wife, as well as some fresh salmon. The meals were delicious: not overcooked and dry, but moist and fresh. The lobster roll portion was good for one of the lowest prices I've seen in CT and the (11) coconut shrimp dinner came with french fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was decent, but bland and could have been tangier, otherwise this would have been 5 stars all the way. Either way, they've earned my business and I'll be sure to go back for more of their cooked to order meals and fresh meats and seafood. read more

As the name suggests this is one of the authentic places to buy fresh seafood. They have quite a variety of meat, sea food - both raw and cooked. It is a tiny shop where you can select the stuff you need, check out and walk off. Pretty simple. I have been there once. Fish, lobster, scallops,shrimp, chicken, beef, pork. There are amazing quality sauces which you can use to add deliciousness to your recipes. I only wish I had found about them a little earlier. I think you can call ahead and order what you want. Charlie's Fresh Catch is a great place for fresh meats/seafood or to grab lunch. He has deli meats, seafood, meats, vegetables, sauces, side dishes, and groceries. We had lunch of fried clam strips and a hot lobster roll- both were fantastic. The fried clams had more flavor than any I've had before. The lobster in the roll was incredibly fresh and delicious. We visited Charlie's yesterday for the first time and highly recommend it. Here's what we know so far: 1) the place is well kept and does not smell like fish! If you shop at a market that smells fishy, it's not being cleaned properly. 2) There are plenty of local finds BESIDES fish there, like fresh beef, local honey, coffee, spices, and milk. I was able to buy a few things on my grocery list! 3) The fresh cooked meals are delicious and worth the price! We had the fried clam strips dinner and the strips were large, sweet, and perfectly fried! The strips weren't rubbery or chewy in the slightest. 4) The customer service is wonderful. I asked a lot of questions and each one was answered in detail and in a welcoming manner. 5) You can call ahead to order and your stuff will be ready! I saw that they had apple fritters available in the case and asked when they are made. Even though they make them fresh when needed, I like apple cider fritters hot. So I asked about it, and placed an order to pick up today. I called to make sure they were going to be ready, and sure enough, they were already being prepped. When I arrived at the time I had scheduled, my fritters were ready. I saw a few more things I wanted to buy, picked up the fritters, and headed home to see if they tasted as good as they looked. Oh my! These were the best apple cider fritters I've had. Soft, not over cooked, and actually tasted like apple cider. They beat the local farms! Was very sad and disappointed. I bought the scallop dinner and received approximately 3 WHOLE sea scallops that were cut in slices and breaded. Price was $17. My husband and I were sick of buying fish and meat at Stop & Shop that "claimed" be be fresh. One trip to Charlies Fresh Catch spoiled us completely and we refuse to buy anywhere else. The fish is so fresh and delicious its like eating it while still on the boat. Now we're in twice a week and sometimes more! We finally bought a few rib eye steaks and cooked them on the grill. Now we eat rib eye steaks once a week after giving up red meat. Beware, once you buy fresh fish and meat at Charlies, you too will be spoiled!
