The park was meant to be a full circle - the "circus" the name - but rising land values north of Adams Street led property owners to resist selling, leaving the park as a half-moon bisected by Woodward Avenue. It links Detroit's theater district to its financial core, and over the decades, it has hosted everything from presidential eulogies to public protests. In fact, General George Armstrong Custer once delivered a eulogy there for Abraham Lincoln before thousands of mourners. The park is adorned with statuary and fountains that speak to Detroit's civic pride. The eastern half features the Russell Alger Memorial Fountain, designed by Henry Bacon (who also designed the Lincoln Memorial), with a Roman allegorical figure sculpted by Daniel Chester French. Nearby stands the statue of Mayor William Cotter Maybury. The western half is anchored by the Edison Memorial Fountain and the statue of Mayor Hazen Pingree, a populist reformer whose legacy still looms large. It's a layered space - literally, as there are parking garages below - with memorials and a green park. Plenty of benches and tables and a free wifi. It's one of my favorite things to do when I'm visiting a city other than my own. I never know what I'm going to find and as for this park, I just happened to run into it. At first glance I didn't even realize it was a park. I noticed a few empty water fountains, a couple statues, a bike share station, and there wasn't much landscaping or anything. I'm not sure if it was just the timing of my visit or what, but it came across rather dreary. I'm not sure if I would describe it as grand but considering the location, I get the circus part. It is completely surrounded by traffic and there's restaurants, theaters, and a lot of other things to do nearby. In a way, that's a circus all on its own. Would I intentionally come back to this park? Probably not, but I can always appreciate some greenery in the middle of a concrete jungle. It's good for the soul.

The unpaved trail is wide, clear, and flat, so it's easy for walking and jogging. Depending on the weather/rain, the trails can get muddy and flooded. Playground equipment for kids, and two separate areas based on age range. One area is designated for kids ages 2-5, and the other area is for ages 5-12. Plenty of picnic tables and easy parking. Open daily from dawn until dusk.

Spotted condoms and used needles on the ground. The park seems to attract seedy people sitting in cars. Always feel like a drug deal is about to go down. Wife said some guy was cat calling her as she was birding.

Eliza Howell Park is a public park in the Brightmoor neighborhood of Detroit. According to its…read morewebsite, the park is made up of 250 acres of preserved land in the flood plain of the Rouge River and has over two miles of hiking trails I visited the park for the first time to participate in a walking tour with a local non-profit. This park has so much potential if only the city invested more funds in its upkeep and landscaping. I thought my vehicle would be swallowed up by the huge potholes around the parking lot. I noticed some trash on my walk. I was told that the park was closed for a while and volunteers from the local community brought this park back to life. It's a very beautiful place for a nature walk and I hope that more is done to restore the park to its former glory.

It has two large playgrounds, one on each end. a lot of green area, some soccer fields, a splash pad and some baseball/softball fields. The side of the park off of Conant Street seems pretty new. They have a new covered pavilion, nice new playground equipment and still working on the the lighting and grass. There is also a lot of green space over on that side as well. The pavilion is nice and has picnic tables under there. The playground has wood chips on the floor and has a nice see-saw, a small jungle gym, a saucer swing and some regular swings. The Charles Street side is where the softball/baseball fields are located and the splash pad. There is also a couple of pavilions over there with picnic tables under them, a restroom facility and the soccer field. That side also has a playground. It has decent equipment. The splash pad is very nice and has a bench you can sit and watch the kiddos frolic. It operates from 11AM to 7PM, in season. The playground is lined with wood chips and has a swing set and a nice jungle gym with slides. There are benches there too. There is an area with picnic tables that are covered by a neat canopy a little further out from the playground. It is very trendy and looks pretty new and neat. You cant miss the bathroom over there it is very colorful. The fields seem well maintained and there are paved paths that make a decent walking/jogging trail. The park has benches and square picnic tables throughout. This is a pretty cool park. It is somewhat calm and peaceful and has a lot to offer. You can bring the kids to the playground, jog around, walk your dog, play in the fields, frolic in the splash pad or just kick back and relax.

I think i did eventually maybe end up passing a lot while exploring the trail, but I ended up just parking near the circle, which felt weird and had me anxious the neighbors would call and get my car towed. Other than that it's just getting out of winter so there's not much growth to see, but it's nice to get out even with the mud. Hopefully someone else's GPS will route them somewhere, or they just won't have the anxiety I did parking and driving through a neighborhood with kids playing around feeling like a creep LOL!

Realtor Park in Royal Oak is a small city park that has been adopted by the Greater Michigan…read moreAssociation of Realtors of which my wife, as a broker, is a member. The park was in a run down state until one of the GMAR realtors spotted it in 2015 while driving by and then GMAR got involved. In cooperation with the City of Royal Oak they cleaned it up and then, in 2018, donated and installed new playground equipment, including a soccer field with goal nets, making it into a kid-friendly place. It's not a big park but it packs a lot in for its size. Today was set up as a combination BBQ picnic and cleanup day. We came early in order to help with bush trimming, raking, and general cleanup along with many other volunteers. After the cleanup we helped spread mulch around the bushes and trees. Then we packed up the rake and headed for the food tent.
