Back again and really missed the amazing food at this restaurant! Got one of my favorites which is the prawn mango salad and it was outstanding! We also had the Koi soi with chicken which is a real treat

Service and ambience were great! Loved the prawn mango salad, but the ribeye was a bit dry. The Thai tea was also a bit watery.

Dinner with friends at charm Thai bistro. This place is beautiful on the inside with friendly and quick service. The food was also comforting and delicious. The fried catfish was my favorite and was spiced well. The green curry and pad Thai were also tasty giving an authentic Thai flavor. Prices were reasonable/affordable. I would come here again for some good Thai food.

One of our favorite local restaurants! Presentation, flavor, and creativity are always on point, and we always try their specialty entrees because they are always a treat! Great restaurant, excellent service, and a wonderful place to bring friends and family. Items pictured- crab rangoons(incredible), spicy catfish and pad Thai. If in doubt, we always love their fish entrees- including the halibut curry!

Recommend this place if you don't have much time for lunch break. I had 30mins to eat and got in and out in that time. Service was quick and food was great! They have all the Thai classics. Thai iced tea was delish as well. Plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Love me some booth seating! I'm not sure why it's always so quiet in here but I'm glad I found this restaurant.

Such a fitting name. Cham Thai Bistro is a very charming little corner restaurant. We enjoyed crying tiger beef and seafood pumpkin curry. Both dishes were so flavorful and delicious. There is one server but you're not left hanging at all. They are very attentive and polite. We look forward to coming back!

Charm Thai in Oakland's Piedmont neighborhood is truly a local treasure. If you're searching for Thai cuisine that transcends the usual Americanized fare and delivers genuine, complex flavors, look no further. This restaurant manages to pair deeply authentic cooking with an incredibly warm and attentive service experience, making every visit feel special. What sets Charm Thai apart is the authenticity of its kitchen. The dishes here are a masterful showcase of the foundational elements of Thai cooking: the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy. I've consistently been impressed by the depth of flavor in everything, from their vibrant Spicy Fish Curry, which features rich coconut milk and aromatic fresh kaffir lime, to the flawlessly executed Pad See Ew, where the noodles are properly charred with a subtle smoky wok hei. You can tell they use high-quality, traditional ingredients, and the spice levels (when requested) feel genuinely tailored to the Thai palate, not watered down. It's a genuine taste of Thailand, right here in Oakland. The level of service at Charm Thai is just as exceptional as the food. From the moment you walk in, the staff greets you with genuine smiles and hospitality. They are incredibly attentive without ever hovering; water glasses are refilled promptly, and empty plates are cleared discreetly. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, offering excellent recommendations and happily accommodating minor dietary requests. The pace of the meal is always well-judged, ensuring you feel welcomed and relaxed throughout your dining experience. It's clear the team here takes immense pride in providing top-tier hospitality. For anyone in the East Bay seeking truly authentic Thai food served in a welcoming atmosphere, Charm Thai is a must-visit. The kitchen delivers bold, traditional flavors, and the entire front-of-house staff ensures you have a wonderful time. This is my new go-to spot for the best Thai experience in Oakland.

    Pad Ke Mao (veganized)

I called ahead to confirm vegan options were available. I was told all vegetarian items do have fish sauce and oyster sauce in it by default but if you tell them not to add it, then they can omit those on select dishes, but that it must be explicitly stated. I got pad kee now without fish sauce and oyster sauce (explicitly stated and double confirmed) and it was great! The interior of this restaurant is so cute too and the prices seem affordable. I will definitely be back. I recommend double checking anything you get to my fellow vegans and vegetarians at time of ordering. E.g. only yellow curry can be made without fish sauce and oyster sauce out of the curries, so check your items correctly.

    Cucumber Soup

Found this lovely hidden gem nearby. My parents and I came here for dinner and we were not disappointed. We sat outside since we brought the dogs with us. It wasn't too chilly and the food kept us warm. We ordered the cucumber soup, yellow curry w/ beef, red curry w/ duck, chicken Pad Gra Pow (?), and bowls of rice. There was enough food for leftovers and I ate it for lunch the next day. My favorites for this meal were the cucumber soup and the curries. Everything was delicious though! Service was good too! We will be back!

We all split all the specialty cocktails and I got the Khao Pad Kang Kiew (rice with eggplant and chicken topped with a fried egg). Dishes are $20-23 ish each. We were seated at the 6 person table in the back of the restaurant near the bathroom. My favorite drinks were their take on a hard thai iced tea, the lavender mojito, a take on an espresso martini. There was also this spicy drink that had thai chilis in it that is VERY spicy lol. Pros: - the rice dish was DELICIOUS and also huge haha. Came with cucumbers to cut the peppery flavor if needed. - All the cocktails were pretty different and it was fun to try all of them. They were all beautiful to look at and tasty (lots of coconut and Thai inspiration). - Service was pretty good - Has "typical" thai dishes like pad thai and pad see ew, and also more rare ones that are hard to find - Close to many bars and other establishments, so perfect if you want to eat here as a first, second, or third location of your outing haha Cons: - The air flow in the back wasn't amazing so I did feel like it got stuffy/hot - Parking can be tough in this area so I recommend BARTing Another reason to love Oakland!

Unfortunately it was too spicy for my liking and some of the white rice was burnt from the being at the bottom of the pot. I was really craving the sweet, earthy flavor of eggplant so while lots of protein was greatly appreciated I did wish there was more eggplant in the dish. Either way it was a good portion of food so they don't skimp here for sure! The service was friendly and super attentive the moment you walk in. I'd be willing to try another non spicy dish here.

Some personal standouts are the kor moo yang (grilled pork jowl), grilled beef short rib, mok pa (steamed catfish), and the Lao-style papaya salad -- which is perfectly spicy and packed with flavor. But it was not full throughout the time we were at the restaurants. Experience: Food came out pretty fast and it was hot(!). Overall, service was good and they checked in on us a few times to make sure all is good. Food: - Nam Khao was fantastic. Crispy rice, the mixed minced vegetables, and the cooked sausage. Together with the lime that you can squeeze to preference, it was delicious! Haven't had Nam Khao this delicious in a while! - Pad See Ew with pork was alright. It was cooked well and a little on the sweeter side rather than savory, but missing the smoky flavor "wok hei" that would take this to the next level that I love. - Fried Sweet Fish was alright too. Fish is fried with a very thin batter but it had black pepper which my kids doesn't want as they're sensitive to anything spicy. The fish had a light fishy taste to it (fresh water fish) which would be better if they even use a little ginger to cut the fishy taste for a better taste. - Guay Tiew is very similar to Pad See Ew with the exception that it had a fried egg on the top and had seafood (shrimp and squid). - Vientiane Crispy Roll is different from regular egg rolls. Made with rice paper roll so it was crispy but also chewy, which is different and may not be what everyone is used to. Will return to try out other dishes.

I missed photos of the main entrees enjoying our time and honestly not sure what we ordered as we paid with a kiosk and didn't get a printed receipt even thought I typed in my email.. so that's frustrating with technology. If you want a receipt have it printed before you leave. My friend had a spicy eggplant dish and I had a tofu dish with rice and no fish sauce. Wish I could be more descriptive but can't say without an itemized receipt.. doesn't matter though, was all amazing flavors for both my friend (who travels and has worldly palette, and my self with a broad pallet only within the US) Flavors were amazing and service was on par. I did have an issue at first with the first server saying Pad Thai could be done with tofu and no fish sauce so I was excited, but then the next server said it was already mixed and not able to accommodate, but did find me an alternative I found flavorful with veggies, though missed having the peanuts in my dish. I had Pad See You instead without meat or fish sauce. Service overall was wonderful, attentive and didn't have to wait for anything. They did close and allowed us to stay on the patio visiting long after. Would be happy to return again.. I didn't ask about validating my parking and then they closed, so that was a bummer but my bad.. do check when you arrive and see if they can validate to help with a hefty parking cost $20 for us but hung out longer than most..

The Thai iced coffee was delicious and strong! As it should be. It did give me the jitters though because I'm a weak sauce. We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!

Along with their housemade sauce and a cup with chicken broth. It looked promising, but the meat was unfortunately dry as if it was left in the steamer too long. To offset this hazard, I prefer either a dark meat option or a mix of both white and dark. There was no dark meat on my plate. These sausages are packed with so many different herbs and spices. The lemongrass flavor was especially prominent. Like the Nam Kaow, this dish also went really well with the fresh mint and lettuce that's provided on the table. There's a good reason why this unassuming Thai and Lao neighborhood restaurant has a line out the door: the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely one of my favorite meals I've had in 2026 -- I can't wait to stop by again.
