The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Pet friendly - animals must be leashed, but are always welcome. Charron has its own dog mascot (I forgot his name) who's always around to greet visitors (don't worry - he is very laid back. In my visits I've never seen him bark, lick, jump, or pester any guests. He's the best-behaves dog I've ever seen!) The only "con" that comes to mind is the dirt road you have to take to drive up the hill to the site. It's not well-maintained and can be rough after a storm. However, you can navigate it with a compact sedan, so no 4x4 needed! Kids are welcome, though there's not much for them to do. We celebrated our girls' bachelorette party in Tucson so we hit up this cute, little winery. My friends and I came here during our recent wine tasting crawl through Sonoita. We came to try the wine of course, which cost $10 for a flight of 6. The wines were pretty decent, and we ended up buying a couple of bottles. The service here was top notch! We made a mistake when it came to timing our visits, so we ended up coming here a little while prior to the closing. Despite that, the staff here were more than happy to accommodate us. Charron is a beautiful venue with excellent prices. The wines, however, are all rather sweet, including even the dry wines...so highly recommended for those who like sweet wines, but not so much if you're like me and prefer dry/oaky, earthy flavors. They provide a nice menu which is very descriptive and their tasting is very reasonably priced (with an included souvenir wine glass). The food options were a little bit of a disappointment to be honest. The baskets sound lovely but the quality of the contents are disappointing. Pita and hummus, cheese, salami, etc are all pre-packaged (served still in the plastic/container), clearly store-bought and put in a cardboard "basket" of sorts. It really takes away from the experience. I'd suggest going with some premium meat/cheese and serving it either on a board or in a real basket with cloth inside. It would feel more special and much more worth the price. The servers are very knowledgable and friendly. Overall, the venue is what really drives my review. It really is comfortable/gorgeous and a couple of their wines (esp the lychee one..tortolita blanca) really are quite good. At a fair price for the tasting and glass, I recommend stopping in. You can easily get out under $20 for tasting, glass and tip. Worth it for the view alone. 3.5 stars. read more

This place is adorable. The 3/4 mile gravel road up takes a bit since it's slow going, but once you're up there it has several indoor tables and then more outside along the deck. If you're coming from Tucson, this would be the first winery you'd hit heading south on the 83. If you continue going south to Elgin-Sonoita after a A tasting here, the road is a bit winding, but beautiful. Charron is definitely worth the stop. Reasonably priced wines and you get a free glass with $8 tasting, which gets you 6 tastings. We bought 2 bottles afterwards; a moscato for $19 and a Merlot blend for $22. read more

Came here with a large group of 7, and we were given are glasses quickly with no wait. Our group decided to sit outside to see the views, and the cold weather wasn't an issue as they had a little fire going near us. Beware though, you do get a smoky smell to you because of this. It would have been more enjoyable if they had an electric heater! They do offer some snacks to munch on for purchase, but the menu isn't too extensive - mainly just meat, cheese, and pre-packaged chips etc. The worker who was serving us would come out every so often to get our wine pours, but we never felt rushed! It was a very casual and relaxing experience. My partner and I are from Washington State where wineries are far and wide, but Charron Vineyards was comparable in experience for us! The tasting fees are way more reasonable than in WA, and you get so many pours! This vineyard is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to spend a Saturday afternoon! The venue is incredibly relaxing and pet friendly- there were a few dogs and a trained pig while we were there. The wine tasting is affordable and if you bring your glass back you get a discount the next time. The picnic basket is a great snack- we split among 4 adults and all enjoyed our portion. The sangria on special right now was my favorite part of the visit, I would recommend the pitcher if enough people are willing to share! The only downside is the drive out, the roads are not paved and rough. Small cars might have to go even slower than the posted 15 mph, but this is the only complaint I have about the experience! read more

We visited after hiking in the morning and enjoyed a tasting flight plus a glass of our favorites. The sangria slushy was perfect! My daughter came in from CA to visit us and we decided to go for a drive. We really hadn't gone anywhere but around Tucson and Mt. Lemmon on previous trips. This time we decided to drive on 83 toward Sonoita. On the way, we saw a sign that said, "Winery Open" and decided to stop and check it out. It was a little vineyard that had an awesome view. The cool thing is that it's only about 10 minutes from our house. We decided to all get flights with different wines so that we can try more of them. Stopped here on the way back home from Bisbee, and somehow miraculously found the one Arizona vineyard none of my wine-loving friends or family had ever been to. It's tucked back down a slightly treacherous dirt road (drive low-slung vehicles at your own risk), but the views are gorgeous and there's a surprising variety of wine available to taste for a smaller winery. Our server Kat was absolutely fantastic: knowledgeable and friendly, and we didn't feel rushed at all. If you've got a penchant for sweet wines, definitely make the trek to Charron; they've got options, whether you want a little residual sugar or a dessert wine or a wine-as-dessert. I'm admittedly NOT much of a sweet wine guy, but still walked away from the tasting having enjoyed a couple of their drier red and white offerings, and took a bottle of Empire home with us to enjoy with some Thai food. My favorite winery in Tucson! You cannot beat the view, especially at sunset. Their patio is huge, so there is always a seat for everyone. Our server actually sat down with us and discussed the menu, which was extremely nice and seemed like he cared that we were there. Their wine is great, and the tasting was fun. I wish I had more positive feedback for this place. The views were beautiful and they had a great presentation. Unfortunately, they mixed up many of our orders and the wine left something to be desired. Most of their reds were very light and almost watery, and the all of the dry whites had a strong salt flavor. The mulled wine was nice, especially on a colder day, and my mother really enjoyed their dessert wines. The ambience was nice, however, we were sitting next to the manager who seemed to be a a bad mood. She complained about how her lunch break was interrupted and made us feel like we were not welcome there. First off, they probably have one of the best patios for wine tasting. I came up with a couple of girlfriends on a Friday afternoon. There were hardly any people there which was nice because the staff members were very attentive. We brought our own snacks with no issues but they do have food available if you're not prepared. I opted for the sweeter wines and was not disappointed. Loved their glasses which we got to keep through the online deal. Overall a great place with a beautiful view and delicious wine. Just outside of Tucson, in Vail, this is small road trip well worth it once you arrive. The view alone is just unbeatable. The mountain backdrop behind their small, yet beautiful vineyard is just breath taking. The patio is positioned just perfectly to capture this stunning scene as you sip away on their wines. We were fortunate enough to come with a Groupon for a wine tasting of 6 wines for two people but I will tell you that even without a Groupon it's entirely worth it. With a variety of wines ranging from dry to sweet, red to white, from around Arizona and of their winery you are able to get a great sampling of Arizona wines. Their picnic baskets are a wonderful idea as well. Think of a charcuterie board in which you assemble yourself since everything is delivered in a picnic basket. Everything from baguettes to meats, cheeses, and even desserts it's the perfect accompaniment to their bold, full bodied, and flavorful wines. This hidden vineyard outside of Tucson was a perfect destination for myself and five other friends, four of which had never been to a wine tasting before! Kat was amazing, very attentive and knowledgeable with the varieties of wine. With a selection of dry reds and whites and sweet reds and whites, everyone in our group was satisfied with their six selections. We decided to get a small snack which was the perfect amount for the six of us. As a dry red fan, I was in heaven. The Merlot 2014 Reserve was by far my favorite, very smooth with a light oak flavor. Charron has a very good location, although getting to it is a little bit challenging if you have a low clearance vehicle (we didn't). Tasting is a bit more laid back than some places; one has a seat on their expensive deck overlooking the vineyard and the high Sonoran Desert, and the tasting consist of 5 selections chosen from their menu which were brought to tasters periodically. There's plenty of time to sit and enjoy the great views and weather. Too bad the wines don't match the venue. Some of them were quite thin, in other words they just don't have much flavor. Their white wines had plenty of acid and flavor, but their reds were indistinct and lacked body, flavor, and may have been a bit young. read more
