They were on time, removed the bushes, and ground out the stumps. They cleaned up the area and were on their way. We couldn't be happier. This is the second time we have used Charter Oaks for tree removal in the last 2 years. We received several quotes and they were by far the best priced and we couldn't be happier with their professionalism, thoroughness, and overall service. They threw in some "extras" like free removal of a small dead tree that they noticed while out for the estimate. These guys started on my neighbors house at 8:00 am. Which is early but acceptable. However I live on a pretty high volume public parking street, these guys came in with huge trucks and hydraulic systems and started banging around yelling at one another. just being over all pretty inconsiderate to the neighborhood. When I saw them trying to parallel parking there semis less then a foot away car. I went out to see what was going on. They told me to move my car, which I have no problem doing, but a please or a thank you would have been nice. When I came back I was surprised to see where the tree was and how they were cutting it down. branches falling dangerously close to other cars, and where my car was. Like I said just an overall disrespect for the time of morning and the neighborhood. Not trying to rag on them to hard because there job doesn't look easy. Just hope they see this and become a little more considerate of the surrounding residence and there properties. read more

Terrible service! Called asking for a quote and never received one. Owner of the company racial profiled me and accused me of lying about owning the property. If you can find someone else to cut down a tree around your house I would highly recommend it. Don't spend your money here. read more

Charter Oaks cut down 10 trees on our property. One of which was a large hickory tree very close to our deck. The crew showed up with the right equipment, were efficient, and followed-up within 2 days to grind the stumps. Overall we were very satisfied with the work and cost. read more

I began my search for tree service in late October. Although Charter Oaks was fairly quick with a quote, the responses since then have been somewhat lackluster. Having spoken with Charter in Early November and replied to the quote, 16 days went by without any communication. I sent an inquiry about when to anticipate the scheduled work. Another week without a response so I notified Charter that I would have to find someone else to do the work as they did not seem to be able to get the work done in a timely fashion. Surprisingly I did hear a response that same day with a promise to get me "on the schedule". 20 days later with no response and after which I found someone else to complete the work, I received a notice that people were on their way to my house to do the work. Although Charter Oaks may indeed do good work (I will never know) their ability to keep their customers informed needs a great deal of work. Even a little note saying we're busy and will get back to you in December would have been appreciated. read more

They did a good job. They were at my house earlier then I was told, but not too early. I was told I did not need to pay until the stump was removed, but I received an invoice. The guys were nice. It was a very large tree and the telephone line ran through the tree. They took the tree down without hitting the phone line or my house or the neighbors house. They removed all the twigs and branches. I would call them again. read more

Left my yard clean, and were willing to work with my very fluid schedule! Came to do exactly what we discussed and were gone before I got home! Only downside is having to wait to get stumps grinded after you have a tree cut down. However they were the only tree service of 6 to offer free "while Im there" services which was nice! read more

Do not use this company! It took them a month to send someone out to grind stumps. I had 5 small stumps. They only did 3 and tried to charge me for all 5. The owner Teri, accused me of lying and not wanting to pay. I sent photos of the stumps still in my yard and she actually said I was taking pictures of different stumps, not in my yard. When I let them know the job was not complete and that I wanted my bill adjusted or the work completed, she refused. She called me 9 times in just one afternoon and sent me 7 text messages that same day, just wanting to scream and threaten me. She has now said that she is sending me to collection and putting a lien on my home for $200 worth of work that her company did not complete. Teri is beyond unprofessional. She had no interest in resolving the issue and providing customer service. This company will not complete the work and then demand payment and threaten you to receive the money! BEWARE! read more

if you want to work with a company that does poor work, doesn't follow through on the terms of their contract, is completely pathological and revengeful, and you have to call them repeatedly to get them to finish the job they started - this is the company for you. And if you do complain - be ready for them to roll up their sleeves and fight dirty - litigation threats, interest payments, and the like.. There are a lot of tree/landscaping companies out there - find one with a reputable, consistent quality. These are some really scary people to work with. read more

I recently called Charter Oaks to request an estimate to have DEAD trees removed and stumps ground out in my BACK yard. I was not home when they came out to do the estimate. I received a hand-written document describing the work and the cost, to which I gave a verbal go-ahead. A utility-locating service then came out and marked utility lines in the BACK yard with red flags. A few days later, I looked out the window to discover Charter Oaks was in my SIDE yard (a neighborhood tree lawn, one with no red flags) cutting down four of my LIVE, beautiful, healthy, 20-year-old maple trees in an area nowhere near the dead trees we had discussed. These trees were flanking the entrance to an entire neighborhood in New Albany and as any reputable tree service in this area knows, are not to be altered. No one ever came to my door to let me know they were at my home (at 8 a.m.) to cut down the trees, nor did I have any advance notice they were coming so I had no opportunity to meet anyone before the actual work began. When I called Charter Oaks to let them know what happened, I was told they were very sorry and would do everything they could to make things right. Following that, I spent 10 days calling, emailing, and texting them to determine next steps. I received one email from them that said they would not charge me for the work on the original contract and that they would come back and do it as planned. After that, they would not return my calls, emails, or texts, nor would they meet with me in spite of repeated requests to determine a mutually agreeable solution. When I finally did speak with them, I was told that I would need to pay for them to come out and do the work that they had previously offered to do for free. They denied having made such an offer, even though I had it in writing, and refused to repair the damage they caused. As another reviewer has said, they lacked any commitment to follow through and customer service, and behaved in a pathological manner, refusing to speak with me or take any responsibility for the situation whatsoever. Under no circumstance would I ever allow them near my property for any type of tree service again. read more

We recently had a large maple stump grinded for what I thought was a great price at $250 (compared to other companies that would have charged $450-$550). I knew ahead of time that they would not remove the wood chips however, I did not realize what damage it would do a large portion of my front yard along with my neighbors. They had to come back to fix my neighbor's yard (remove chips, level ground and plant seed) because they obviously did not pay to have their yard torn apart. It took weeks of emails and phone calls to get them to come back out and fix it. In addition, it took me weeks and over 100 lawn bags full of chips to clean up the mess. Once I did get it all shoveled up, below all of the chips revealed that much of the stump was missed. Overall I am unsatisfied with this job, but I guess you get what you pay for. read more

I try to use local companies but I made a mistake here. I needed one 10 foot tall weeping cherry removed for landscaping to be done, There was confusion from the start. There were delays getting the stump grinding done which delayed my landscaping 2 weeks. My general feeling was that this was a small job and not worth their best effort. read more

They did an excellent job grinding a stump. I called them on Friday afternoon and texted them a picture of the stump. They came out on Monday and did the job. It was excellent and a good value for the money. I have used them a number of times for stump grinding and they are excellent and would use them again. read more

I contacted this company for a quote to trim two large trees and within two days they provided me a fair price to do the work. Once I gave them approval to do the work, it was scheduled in a timely manner. They showed up when they were supposed to, trimmed the trees to my satisfaction, and did a very nice job cleaning up the trimmings. Both the office staff and tree crew interacted with me in a professional manner. I would definitely use this company again. read more
