this went from one of the best M&T branches to the worst. they keep changing managers and staff…read more customer service there is dead. with the eventual move to a more digitized banking future, M&T no longer even fakes customer service is important. If you are considering opening personal or business account here, and you like horrible customer service, this is your bank.

I opened an account at the Fayetteville branch in 2009 because they were walking distance from my…read morehouse and had ATMs in the area. There were a few warm people at this branch (like the woman who helped me open my acct), but when I would go in every couple weeks to deposit checks, etc., I was often treated with suspicion by the bank tellers. For example, my wife and I had just married and I was the only holder of an M & T account. We were getting gifts (checks) from family made out to both of us, and, the both of us standing there in the bank attempting to deposit the checks into my account, we got this weird attitude suggesting that we weren't actually married and there was something suspicious about our transaction, further pressuring us to open a joint account (requiring a marriage license; which at the time was another of many big middle-fingers to same-sex couples). I mentioned to the teller that we had just filed our taxes jointly and that the refund had come direct deposit into my account, to which she tried to argue that this wasn't possible (i.e., that it didn't happen) without a joint account (hello, you're a teller, look in my goddamn account record if you don't believe me!). A joint account might have been a good idea, but we were moving away in a couple months and it just wasn't worth staying with this bank after their ridiculous treatment. This wasn't the first or last weird experience at this branch. Why would a branch treat their account holders so rudely? Maybe I didn't fit the mould of a rich surburbanite? (so common in the area) I don't know, but I'm glad I moved far away and never to have to see these snarky turds again.

Granted, it's all the way out in Fayetteville, so the location isn't super convenient for me. The hours are limited. It would be nice if they had some ATM's in the area instead of just this one. Still, it's come in handy to have a branch nearby. I think they're geared more towards financial services/advising than traditional bank transactions at this location, but still, it's been nice to be able to utilize as needed. The staff is always polite and helpful. The short hours and off-the-path location make banking a bit of a pain, but it's still much easier than driving all the way to Ithaca.

At one point we waited a week to hear if we had approval to close only to hear back that they were "missing" necessary paperwork. This paperwork wasn't missing, it had been sent to them four days prior but somehow got lost in the shuffle. The bank attorney took days to respond to anything and once he did, it was always after 4:00pm. Once we finally got the approval to close (which took almost two weeks) we were crushed to find it wouldn't be happening for another 8 days. This was incredibly frustrating since we had been living with a friend for over a week. I would not recommend this bank to anyone, ever.

This bank does not really care about people and profits from predatory lending to struggling people. Their savings account interest rates are beyond pathetic. The local branch closed in the village I live in even though it was a busy branch, it was closed around the same time the drug dealers left the village. I am new to financing, never had to use it. It just seems predatory and creepy. I was given a 11% interest for a personal loan. One star review type of credit report companies like Experian and Transunion did not help my credit score even though I have paid my bills on time for more than 40 years. I was quite happy when I was just cash based. The problem entered when I tried to sell my main property to relocate out of NY. Community Bank would not let me use my property (has no mortgage) as collateral if I moved out of NY to purchase another place in the south, as I want to downsize and move south for my health and well-being. I need more sunshine and want to move near an ocean beach area. I am 60 years old, mixed race female. Basically, Community Bank provides minimal services, and I feel my retirement is being ruined by scams for years, and now predatory lending.

Everyone is always very quick and friendly at the drive-up teller, and the few times I actually had to go in for anything, they had me bring my two little dogs inside so they didn't have to sit in the car or so I wouldn't have to come back the time it was too hot for me to feel comfortable doing that anyway. They also always give them treats when we all stop by, which is awesome! There's never been any lines either; usually a quick in and out.
