I was super bummed with the attached restaurant closed, but apparently a new food place opened up in its place. I took my rugrats here for the "Splish Splash" event and really enjoyed it.

This one is nestled in the east side of Piedmont park, accessible by a short walk through some lower traffic entrances. If there is space, park in the neighborhood bisected by Park Drive NE. You can walk through the gate, curve around the lake, and you're there. The pool overlooks the lake, a prime location indeed. Piedmont has a similar relationship to Atlanta that say Central park has to NYC. It's a large, grassy space that everyone loves, and you can see the city looming in the background. The entrance to the pool itself reflects demand; on our afternoon visit, we had to wait a bit for other visitors to leave - they have a hard cap on the crowd size. At 11:00 on a Saturday, they were charging non-members a sweet five bucks. Anyway, the pool is really, really nice. The layout is such that you can do adult things if you like (laps, whatever), or you can entertain your kids if you need to do that. The child friendly features are abundant, including a splashpad and a lazy river. Mine really dig all of that stuff. Shady areas are abundant and you can chill on a nearby grassy area with your blanket or whatever. There is no diving board (no deep end either), but what public pool has one of those anymore? Lockers are abundant and things are generally clean. What's not to like? Also, shout out to Sean's, a very capable snack bar.

There is paid parking on campus, and since it was the summer, there was not an issue finding any. We entered through the main entrance and there were students working out on the main floor that you could see and the facility felt updated and modern, with high ceilings. It was exciting to say that we swam in the same pool used for the Olympics in 1996. They proudly and rightfully display that fact for everyone to see. The pool is huge with bleachers (with real seats, not a bench) on one side. The pool was huge of course and was split in half due to the shorter lengths that my kids were swimming. The views were great from the seats no matter where you were and the diving end was also clearly visible. Hope to be back!

I was in the women's bathroom on the second floor and two giant cockroaches came charging after me. Another person said they found a dead cockroach by the pool yesterday as well. I alerted staff that there are several cockroaches and a woman working at the facility said "I'm not sure what you want me to do about it." Nasty business. For some reason it won't let me add a photo of the roach!

Unfortunately, the club did not handle an injury well with our daughter as she became a more advanced swimmer. Her "new" coach was more intent on the team winning than earning the trust and respect that a good coach would usually deserve. Which includes creating a welcoming culture, telling athletes to listen to their bodies and ensuring that he/she is PATIENT. We changed clubs as a result of Joey and had no problem doing so as every other coach was very happy to work with a high performance young teenager and help her get "competition ready." Coaching is a seminal component in a teenager's life and we did not feel comfortable with his attitude or interactions with the kids. Mike seems like a great CEO, but not well-informed by the coaching staff -that could be a result of the head coach who we never heard a word from. I would make sure to spend time talking to the coaches before picking Dynamo, depending on the child's age.

Out of the blue (or perhaps not so out of the blue because it was literally the day the Oakhurst Coach gave birth), Dynamo eliminated its high school program at Oakhurst with 3 weeks notice. No goodbye to the old coach, leading to sobbing and angry teens. The also not so best part was that they offered a 4pm practice when high school kids in this area get out at 3:45 6 miles away from the new location. Not sure if this was pregnancy discrimination or just awfulness/rudeness, but Dynamo has changed. I did try to reach out to the head coach and got a nasty note back from the Board Chair. You can't count on them to offer consistency, which I think was a hard lesson for my kids and for me since that's what they claim to sell. The City of Decatur should definitely take the Oakhurst pool back from Dynamo.

Joining Life Time has been one of the best decisions our family has made…read more Like many busy professionals, I had built a great home gym over the years. What I didn't realize I was missing was the energy that comes from being surrounded by people pursuing health, wellness, growth, and recovery. What sets Life Time apart is that it isn't just a gym. It's an ecosystem built around helping people become the healthiest version of themselves. One day I may run laps on the indoor track. Another day I may focus on strength training, core work, boxing, stretching, or recovery. There are machines and training areas for every fitness level and every goal imaginable. Treadmills, weights, functional fitness spaces, recovery tools, massage chairs, stretching equipment, steam rooms, hot tubs, infrared saunas, traditional saunas, cold recovery spaces, and more. And yes, there are televisions everywhere filled with sports. Lots and lots of sports. The atmosphere is contagious. You are surrounded by people investing in themselves, challenging themselves, and pursuing healthier lives. One of the lessons I recently wrote about in my article Dynamic Stretch + Recovery is that growth doesn't happen during the workout alone. Growth happens in the recovery. Muscles strengthen when they are challenged and then given time to rebuild. The same is true in life. The best leaders understand this. The healthiest people understand this. Strong performance requires intentional recovery. Life Time has reminded me of that truth. For me, the traditional sauna has become a favorite place to reflect, pray, recover, and simply be still. It is often in those quiet moments that I find clarity, gratitude, and perspective. What has surprised me most is how much our entire family loves it. My daughter is having a blast with the pools, water slides, and activities. The outdoor beach club atmosphere, music, and weekend events make it feel more like a resort than a gym. My husband has found a place to exercise, stay active, and invest in his health as well. We joined thinking we were purchasing a fitness membership. What we found was community, family experiences, wellness, recovery, inspiration, and joy. In a world that constantly tells us to do more, Life Time reminds us that our health, our families, and our well-being are worth investing in too. Grateful we made the decision.

It took probably 45 minutes for anybody to do anything which again didn't help me very much. I went into the sauna and it's similarly filthy. By looking through the spaces between the cedar planks you can see Band-Aids and other crap there. Just really dirty for something we pay so much for. There is also no direct way to contact corporate about this. The offer was to talk locally to the concierge but I guess that's really the problem isn't it. What we talking locally do if this is how they maintain the club anyway. It's just terrible that I have to do this every time you know every other month it's this way.
