Being in the area, we were recommended to come here. We are glad we did, as the tasting room, the grounds and the views are spectacular. The wines were just OK, especially just coming from wine tastings in the Yadkin Valley. Here, the system to winetasting is very different to the ones you do in the Yadkin Valley. Here first you have to buy the tickets, and then stand in line to be called to the counter to do the wine tasting. In our case, we had to wait about half an hour to be called. However, I will come back to bring guests over; as I said at the beginning of this review, the whole experience is worth it, even when the wines are not to my liking. read more

The restaurant was: good: great views! Food well prepared, service was great, warm fire burning, very cozy, great to do wine tasting beforehand. Bad: several of the dishes we ordered were not available and we had an early dinner time. We were misled about the happy hour prices. Portions are small and very pricey. Only one vegetarian option and limited gluten free options. Was a nice experience but probably wouldn't eat there again. Tasting room: beautiful building, knowledgeable staff yet not really friendly. Though I can walk from around the corner, it's worth a several hour's drive. Wine tastings are held in the faux chateau and lunch and dinner in the nearby manoir restaurant. Eating outside on the patio offers stellar views and sunsets. Considering you are in Floyd County, the cuisine is exceptional. The panna cotta was elegant and the chocolate and basil cake was a combination that worked really well. The sweet red laurel makes for an excellent dessert wine. The wine pairings are spot on. Note a new chef started in the summer of 2018. The wait staff are attentive and professional. Although the dining rooms are always crowded, I've not noticed that reservations are needed. read more

Sad this beautiful place we've been to for years has gone down hill. Went there last Sunday afternoon to hear some music and taste winewith my niece and her three small children. We had a bag a corn chips they were eating some of and the sheriff came by as if we were criminals to say no outside food. Never mind that others who had PURCHASED the chips there could eat them just fine!! Packed up and went promptly to Villa Appalaccia and had a wonderful experience!!' Everywinery is under same law regarding outside alcohol.. that does NOT mean not Bringing your own snack!!!! The sign "No coolers" does not mean no snacks !!! Wine is overpriced and tooo sweet anyways. You should focus more one making good wine and food like when original owners started out!!! read more

We attended a wedding here recently and had so much fun. First, this place is gorgeous. Beautiful views. The buildings are gorgeous. Landscaping is top notch. There are multiple parking lots so there is plenty of parking. It is dog friendly. I tried several different wines and every single one was delicious so of course I had to bring a few home with us. If I'm ever in the area again I'll definitely be stopping by for another wine tasting. read more

Great weekend day trip. It's a nice scenic drive to the winery and upon arriving I was thoroughly impressed by their beautiful facilities and tasting area; much greater than I was honestly expecting for a setting in rural Southwest Virginia. The tasting was lovely and well-arranged, and the wines were delicious and very fairly priced by the bottle if interested. They also had a seasonal cider collection to sample, in case someone in your group isn't a big wine fan. The day that we were there they also had live music and light finger foods available. We chose the cheese and crackers, which were generously portioned for just a few dollars. Overall it was a great weekend day trip in the countryside to enjoy some great wine and live music. We're looking forward to returning in the future. read more

Got to love a winery that is not only dog friendly but donates a portion of their proceeds to canine charities. Setting is beautiful among the mountains. Helpful and knowledgable staff, great value tasting. Their Blackberry wine is my favorite. They also sell some of their wines in grocery stores/Walmart in NOVA but I have not been able to find their Blackberry wine. They serve food but I did not get a chance to try. read more

I know very little about wine -- I like sweet wine, something I'm told characterizes Trump voters -- but I know a great deal about customer service and the management at Chateau Morrisette is among the most customer-oriented I've ever encountered. We had a problem with our order that we didn't discover until we were back home. It was solved in two days to our complete satisfaction. This is a business worthy of your trust. I also recommend the wine tasting. The selection is varied -- I even found three I liked, Blackberry, Frosty Dog & Heritage -- and the staff will take requests. If you enjoy wine, or are indifferent like me, the Chateau is worth visiting. Evidently the restaurant is very popular, too, but we did not visit this trip. Something for next time. read more

Best wine tasting experience we've had in a long time. Recently enjoyed tastings through the Yadkin Valley and while they were all good, they weren't review worthy. To start... do the tour! The facility is impressive. All the wines are adequate, but their reds are the real winners. Definitely schedule your visit so you can dine in their restaurant afterwards. If you see an older gentleman, his name is Ray, while you're waiting for your tasting... keep waiting until he's available! read more

DISCLAIMER: I have never actually eaten at the restaurant here, only toured the winery and enjoyed my fair share of the wine, and I am probably about a thousand times less classy than most of the people who have already written a review. HOWEVER. Their tour is really outstanding. I have been on winery tours before, but never one where the guide was so friendly and willing to answer questions. After the tour you can do a tasting of about 10 of their wines for 5 bucks, and you get to keep the wine glass. The winery is in a beautiful setting off the Blue Ridge Parkway, so it's worth it to walk around and check out the property. It's only a stone's throw away from one of my favorite places to hike in Floyd, the one and only Buffalo Mountain. Their wine is fantastic and I drink it as often as possible. Again, if you are in your early 20s and poor like us, eating at the restaurant would probably be a splurge. But if you like wine, the winery is definitely worth a stop during your parkway travels. read more

Review of the winery as I've not eaten in the restaurant in many years. Awesome building, fabulous construction with historical wood. Nice location with great spot for music. They have great bands in the summer. I wish I could be as positive about the wine. It has swung wildly in quality over the years from defective (too much sulfur, too herbaceous, high VA) to excellent to not so good. In 2014 it's not so good again. A couple if years ago it was excellent across the board. They used to sell a lot if stuff that looked like rebadged Williams Sonoma sauces, which was a nice touch. A truckload of people are always here despite the often mediocre wine while a mile down the road, a much better and much smaller winery, Villa Appalaccia, is relatively quiet. I could never figure that out. Marketing has always been excellent at CM ... perhaps that's why. read more

Recently went here for a wine tasting with family and friends and I would say the service and history of their wines was a great addition to the tasting. As for the wines themselves, and though everyone has a personal preference, I myself was underwhelmed with many of them. Good: Their Vidal Blanc, Petit Verdot and their 5 Red Grapes all were good for their price points. I was not a fan of their Cabernet Sauvignon or their Chardonnay; their Cab being mellow with not a typical feel in the mouth I would like from this price point; their Chard having a larger taste on the palate than I myself prefer. I would definitely try again for different years and to try their other wines. As of this review, I believe they sit solidly at a 3 stars until experienced again. read more

I wanted to like it. My sister has been many times and had wonderful things to say. We took the long drive today and was really disappointed. We ordered grilled romaine salad also shrimp and grits. The salad came 10 minutes AFTER the entree. It wasn't prepared properly. The grits weren't cooked properly. The shrimp not what's if ever pay 22.00 for again. Have visited here a couple times prior to this visit. Came away with the same opinion this trip. Ban the Dogs. We've been Dog owners for 40 yrs, however this is out of control at C. Morrisette. Who wants to be getting their read-end sniffed during a wine tasting, or removing dog hair from their tasting crackers? Not sure about Va. however many states don't allow animals in grocery or food establishments. If not for having to deal with that issue the setting and facilities are good. I'm of the same opinion as friends and co-workers about their Wine... that being, we don't like it. Not bad, its just below average for this region. Interesting that C.Morrisette has posted numerous places that children aren't encourage for attendance, yet animals are. read more

After the experience at the Virginia Wine Festival, I will NEVER be visiting this winery. The (older) lady - or "wine b*tch" as I believe she referred to herself as - that was doing the tasting for our group was incredibly rude - seriously, I've never seen obnoxiousness quite like this. She thought she was funny/cute/clever...not so much. First of all, she was pouring water into one glass, then into another person's, then into another person's...she was RINSING glasses with water that was going through EACH glass! WTH???!!! That's disgusting! Then she just kept on with the rude comments ie. her "rules". She even yelled at everyone to "Shut up!"...I'm not kidding. ..."Each glass must be attached to a hand"..."Tasting, not texting" (which she then turned around and walked around, ignoring the group to try and prove her point)...I could go on. We (our group of 9) actually left in the middle of the tasting because we couldn't deal with one more second of her crappy attitude. If this is what is tolerated by the management I have no desire to visit the actual winery. read more

Really enjoyed my visit to this winery. I did the wine tasting. We were told we would be going through a flight wine 10 types of wine. The person doing the tasting was very personable and engaging. We were doing a tasting with full tasting bar of people. I was amazed that he was able to be so engaging with such a large group of people. I really enjoyed the Dog Blue Wine which was similar to a German Style Riesling. We ended up tasting about 12 different wines and and a couple of blends. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The estate is beautiful and I can't wait to visit them again in the summer months. read more

Hmm I'm surprised at the bad comments on here. My experience was very pleasant at chateau Morissette. I stopped in with 2 others friends while en route to a festival. The staff was very nice and cordial. They went out of their way to really make us feel welcomed. We had our tasting with Ray and he is fantastic. He was very knowledgeable, lively and had so many great stories to share...including the one about Hans the dog. Before posting a negative comment on here and ranting about calling PETA, maybe some folks should really listen to the entire story. Overall, the winery is charming and well worth a visit. An $8 wine tasting takes you through 10 pours, and you get to keep the glass. I wish there was an option to forego the glass (since my cabinet always seems to fill up with branded cups just as quickly as I get rid of them). But the tasting was well-presented; our guide explained each well and offered really great pairing suggestions. If you weren't paying attention, they do have a helpful sheet that breaks down the per-glass and per-bottle price of each, as well as the Aroma, Palate, and Pairing notes. The line-up when we went featured too many sweet wines, in my opinion. (Then again, those Moscatos and Blackberry wines were my mom's favorites!) Most of the bottles are priced at $11, which is very reasonable. And I love that they have homemade dog treats for sale (in keeping with their doggie mascot). There are several places to sit and enjoy something on site. A small deck attached to the winery and gift shop, a brick patio (where a wedding was taking place when we visited), and a large grassy lawn with picnic tables and an amphitheater at bottom, and cute little pergolas at top. The accompanying nibbles leave something to be desired, however; especially given the apparent notoriety of the restaurant. We had planned to get a cheese plate, but learned that they only have cubed cheese (like what you would get on a party platter at the grocery store). Similarly, they don't serve oyster crackers or any palate cleanser during their tastings. read more

This has always been one of my favorite wineries to visit. My last visit though left something to be desired. I am not a wine connoisseur so I won't even try to rate the wines. I do prefer a slightly sweeter wine so Sweet Mountain Laurel and Our Dog Blue are my favorites. This rating is only getting 2 stars because of two things. What on Earth is wrong with the water?? It tasted horrible. The other complaint is why is there no crackers of any kind offered during the wine tasting? I am hoping these issues are fixed so I can give a 5 star rating next time. read more

Last week, after driving several days on Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway with our kids we were looking forward to visiting this winery, tasting some of the wines and buying some for ourselves and as gifts for our friends and neighbors. We arrived at the tasting room, purchased our tasting vouchers and then proceeded to the counter, where we're were all but ignored, well except for the rather rude and crotchety curmudgeon of a person at the tasting counter who felt the need to get snippy with and insult our 7 year old daughter. In fairness my daughter was misbehaving a bit due to some pent up energy from several hours in the car; however my wife immediately corrected her and she curbed her behavior. Apparently this was not good enough for the crotchety curmudgeon as he felt the need to correct my daughter and then tell my wife she needed to correct her if there were any further "infractions". After this he walked away and continued to serve other patrons making sure to ignore us, except for the several glares of disgust he shot our way, presumably because he did not approve of us having our children in the tasting room. We stood at one end of the counter for about 5 minutes and continued to be ignored. I might be able to excuse this were they busy, but this was a Tuesday afternoon and there were only two groups of 3-4 people at the tasting counter and (aside from those already being served) none ahead of us. Then, after waiting we watched as the crotchety curmudgeon and the other employee, an older lady, continued to ignore us and instead proceeded to immediately serve a group that just walked in, purchased their vouchers and sat at the opposite end of the tasting counter. I did say that we were waiting and a group that arrived after us was served immediately, right? It was made very obvious that the "people with kids" could wait. Once this occurred and it was clear we were not welcome my wife lost it. She immediately proceeded back to the cashier and requested a refund. To her credit the cashier apologized profusely and even offered to do our tasting herself, but the damage was already done. She took my wife's contact information and told her that she would inform the "owner" and he would contact her regarding the issue. In fairness we waited a week before posting any reviews to ensure the "owner' or management had an ample amount of time to contact us and resolve the issue. After hearing nothing I am left to assume they either do not know their employees are treating customers this way, or they do not care. Whatever the case they are deserving of a one star review. Just for some perspective, the wife and I have traveled all over the country and visited hundreds of wineries, breweries, and even a few distilleries, most with our children in tow and never have we had an issue like the one we had at this establishment. I literally have never experienced as much attitude from the staff at any of the wineries in Napa (where attitude and snobbery from staff is so rampant it is disgusting). In fact at every other place we visited our kids were welcomed. I will also add that if you think parents of school age children are not wine drinkers or are willing to spend money then you are sorely mistaken. Hell, we probably need wine more than any other demographic. As it stands all of the information on this establishment's website, Facebook page, Yelp, Trip Advisor and multiple tour guide books, indicate families and children are "welcomed". If this is not the case (which its appears to be) then they need to ensure it is amended. Just as a point of reference families and children "welcomed" means that they are embraced as customers, not "tolerated" so long as they behave as catatonic adults. At any rate if you are on The Blue Ridge Parkway with your family and think this would be a great stop, save your time. As there seem be several employees who find it completely acceptable to not only provide terrible customer service, but are unwelcoming and intolerant of families as well. Big shout out to this place for ruining a part of our trip that my wife was looking forward to! Update.......... I have still received no direct response from the management, but have received some responses via other review and social media platforms from persons claiming to represent this establishment. In every response they have attempted to justify the subpar customer service and behavior of their staff. They also continue to insist that we visited at a "busy" time, which is untrue. Again we visited on a Tuesday afternoon and there were only two groups ahead of us that were being served. We were then ignored while another group that arrived while we were waiting was served immediately. The fact that the management keeps trying to justify this lapse in customer service as opposed to being contrite and apologizing for the issue shows how they feel about their customers. read more

Chateau Morrisette has breathe taking views you can sit outside and over look the whole area or sit inside and enjoy the same view. Durning the winter they have fireplaces so you can have a cozy lunch or dinner date. The food will not disappoint so many wonderful choices. So many different wines to taste. You can truly make a day out of enjoying wine tasting the views and food. read more

The property and surroundings are beautiful. The service and tasting experience was not. We sidled up to the bar for a tasting, and waited a while for service. A staff member walked by and asked what we wanted, and we were instructed to pay at the front for a tasting first. No problem, but it did seem odd that there were tastings going on on either side of us, yet none of those staff members chose to let us know and instead just left us to continue waiting. We paid for our tastings, and instead of being allowed to choose our own spot at the bar, we were inexplicably and quite curtly asked to wait off to the side for several more minutes. As I stated, only 2 other parties were having tastings, and the huge tasting bar was empty except for those individuals. It seemed odd, but not only that, it was handled with no customer service smile/friendliness from the staff. Every winery I've visited attempts to accommodate guests with hospitality and make the process as effortless as possible. It seemed to be the exact opposite here. Once we began our tasting, the staff member who led our tasting read directly from the tasting sheet, word for word. The wine was ok, not fantastic. This is my favorite winery to visit in the area! I have been there several times over the last year and it is always a great experience. My boyfriend and I went today and had an excellent and personal wine tasting thanks to Keith. I had a better service experience there today then any vineyard in Napa Valley. I recommend going during the week in the winter months for a more personal experience. Since moving to the area, I always take visitors to Chateau Morrisette. Now, everyone requests to go when they come in town. The restaurant is amazing! We go to celebrate big occasions. read more

I agree with several reviews that the property and surroundings are beautiful. The service and tasting experience was not. We paid for our tastings, and instead of being allowed to begin the tasting right away, even though there were 2 servers and only 4 people (one group of 3 and than 1 group of just 1) at the tasting bar, we were inexplicably and quite curtly asked to wait off to the side for several more minutes. Once the larger group was wrapping up we were told by the front desk person that we were up next. The other group ended and before we could step up to the bar they stepped up to the bar and nothing was said to us and they started with that group. We hung back waiting for the other group to end and the server that had started with the other group said "I can't serve you if you are standing back there" in a dismissive tone and we were then added on to that group and were then ignored. If we could be added to that group, why didn't they let us start when we arrived and do 2 groups at once. They didn't explain the process, that they do all the wines on the list rather than letting you choose what wine you wanted to try, and then didn't give much information and poured the first wine. When I commented that it had a bit of a bite to it the server dismissed me with a disgusted look. Then when one of my party asked to try a wine that he had just poured for the other group he again acted like he was disgusted and an unreasonable request. It was at that time that I went back to the front and told them the server was rude and dismissive and asked for my money back. I was given my money back but they did not apologize or in any way try to rectify the issue. The other server was standing at the desk and didn't offer to take over the tasting for us. We had been to a winery tasting the day before which was the exact opposite of this and we ended up buying 9 bottles of wine so this winery lost out on our tasting fee and the purchase of several bottles of wine. Truly disappointing and I would not recommend it if they retain this server. read more

We had an excellent tasting at this winery at the end of October. We even walked away with an amazing deal on wine. My husband and I couldn't wait to share them with our friends in Wisconsin. We tried to save all our wine for a special occasion but it's almost all gone. I'll be calling tomorrow to have more shipped our direction. read more

The setting is beautiful....right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. My husband and I went to the winery after having a wonderful lunch at their restaurant. We enjoyed the wine so wanted to go to the winery for a tasting and were planning on buying several bottles. When we walked in there was only one gentleman behind the tasting counter helping a couple. There were two ladies in the office. Not one person acknowledged our presence. We stood at the cash register for awhile, walked around the shop, still nothing. I would have expected the gentleman to say he would be with us shortly or at least acknowledge we were waiting. We finally went and stood at the tasting counter and looked at the menu of wines available for tasting and prices. As soon as my husband walked away, the gentlemen behind the counter stopped what he was doing and came to reposition the pencil on the counter my husband had moved when looking at the menu. Still no comment from him. This is just not the southern hospitality we are accustom to. Can't comment on the wine because we never had the opportunity to try it. Too bad. read more

I visited the Chateau Morrisette booth at the Virginia Wine festival. I was unable to do a wine tasting at this event because the self proclaimed "wine b*tch" refused to serve me because my glass wasn't "attached to my hand" and refused to serve my friends for the same reason. She walked away several times during her rant about the wines, yelled at me for using water to rinse my glass, then yanked MY glass away from me and poured the water from my glass into a bunch of strangers' glasses. GROSS. Who does that?! It's disgusting and unsanitary. I walked away with half our group because of this woman's unbearable and intolerant attitude. We were not being rude, there was no reason for this woman's behavior. There are TONS of people at a wine event, if you have a group organized enough to pass glasses so they can all enjoy a tasting together. say THANKS and get on with the tasting. I will NEVER visit this winery after this experience. read more
