What it is, is a…read morelong section of wall where various artist exhibit their work by creating one of their pieces on the wall. Yes, it is a little bit strange. East Side Gallery is a really a very long wall. There are a lot of artists that have their work showing on this wall. Just like beauty in in the eye of the beholder, so is art. Some of the work along this wall is very good. Others, not so much. All this being said, it is an interesting concept. And, it is something that you should see if you are in Berlin. Just don't get your hopes up to experience something truly revolutionary or cutting edge. Remember, it's just a wall with a bunch of paintings on it.

We saw online that the urban spree plaza opened at 2, so we waited at the nearby cafe as we got there around 1. When 2:30 came around, we strolled over, but it looked like they were barely setting up. Nothing was open yet... after seeing this, I think it may be better to come here later in the day for safe measure. Because of this, I didn't get to see everything, but I can imagine how popping it may be at night time!

I came here to just relax during the day, and then I came back at night to party. Firstly, no bottles allowed inside. During the day there was a performer and she was absolutely lovely. Her music fit the setting perfectly. Inside one of the buildings is an art store with amazing pieces for purchase. Outside there's a small 2 story building where you can get tattoos or piercings (they were closed on the Saturday I went). At night, this place was packed with people! The bar was packed and it was a difficult to get a drink. However, this is where I met such a diverse group of folks from all over the world. I think this makes Urban Spree a definite tourist attraction (A+ for diversity). Behind the bar, another building opened up and there were 2 different rooms on 2 floors designated for European EDM/trance. It's loud, packed, sweaty, and seizure-inducing, if that's your style. Bathrooms are located in here. It's dirty, grungy, and everything you could expect at a dance club. I especially have to give 100000+ stars for the staff. A friend of mine was too drunk to function and instead of kicking us out, the staff spent the ENTIRE night providing us water until she came back to life. we didn't even leave until it was morning the next day. Topography of Terror is an indoor and outdoor history museum that was built on the site of former…read moreNazi (e.g., SS and Gestapo) buildings. The museum includes permanent and special exhibitions. My husband and I had hired a private guide for a city-wide tour, but I believe that admission to this museum is free. Here, we visited mostly the outdoor exhibit, which included the remains of Nazi buildings and part of the Berlin Wall. Fifteen stations had informational panels with photos and descriptions of events between 1933 and 1945. Text described the economic crisis and the rise of the Nazi Party in the 1920s; the registration and persecution of Jews, Gypsies, the disabled, and other demographic groups; the Allied air attacks in 1943; and the surrender of Berlin in 1945. Being on the same ground as Nazis were decades ago was an educational experience. According to the informational panels, construction of the Berlin wall began in 1961, and it reached 150 kilometers in length. It was intended to prevent the crossing of refugees from East Germany into West Germany. I felt very interested in seeing the concrete with holes, rebar, and graffiti. I hope that when people visit this museum, they learn to accept different groups of people and to oppose all forms of prejudice and discrimination.

The hanging displays outside will take a good 2 hours to read and digest. Make sure to find the start and work your way forward, I started at the wrong end. Then after you finish outside go inside the museum to learn more. If you don't like to read, audio tours are available. I learned a lot about Siemens and VW involvement during this era. Shocking! It has about 5 different clubs on it including the Cassiopeia, an Raggea club, a tiny café and the RAW 1&2. They have music from Rock to Electro, Hardcore and Raggea too. On wednesdays its Dub-Wohnzimmer (dub livingroom). Because its a selforganized squatlike place theyre endangered by being bought-offand lose their facilities like so many alternative venues in Berlin these days. Alternative crowd and they have medium known acts in concert too. Prices are medium too. .)
