Checkmate is incompetent. After having a horrendous time trying to get monthly reports and basic information and help we left the company. Upon leaving we realized they had incorrectly entered payroll for all our salaried employees. Basically, they took the salary value and divided it by 24 to come to the pay. However, we pay our employees biweekly not bimonthly so they were being paid 26 times, two extra paychecks. For our small company this came to over 30k in overpaying our employees last year alone, not to mention the tax implications of this. And now that we have brought it to their attention they don't have the time for us. It is absolutely unbelievable. We switched to a larger well know payroll company and are very happy. User friendly and the employees are helpful and available for us when we have questions. read more

The new Checkmate Payroll "leadership" has recently terminated the employment of 3 key people, leaving the remaining staff, over worked, overwhelmed, demoralized and looking for other jobs. One of the terminated employees had 9+ years of experience and was terminated a few days after making a simple complaint. This company can not survive much longer under present conditions. read more

Terrible customer service. They also don't know Massachusetts laws even though the process Ma payroll. Beware!
