This was my first time using Checkmate Piano Movers, and I am very happy with the experience. I called Kevin late last week asking if he could move a piano for me this week, knowing that he might not have availability. He got back to me on Friday and was transparent about potentially not having availability until the second week of September so we set a date for that week. However, he called me over the long weekend to let me know he could move it early this week. They had to move my 600 lb. upright down a flight of stairs and then move it into a house with snow/ice all over the place. They were excellent and very affordable. Kevin, the owner is such a great guy, he has been so helpful to us. He was able to find me a piano bench in his stock at his office, as my piano did not come with one. We recently used Checkmate Piano movers to move our mid-size upright piano across town. They were great. Easy to schedule with, professional, courteous, and helpful. The lady we bought the piano from reported to me that they did a great job moving the piano from her house and I watched as they moved the piano carefully and well into my house. Mid-move, while the piano was on my porch about to go up the next few steps into my house, they asked me if I would like to take the opportunity to clean out the back of the piano while it was accessible (the back of the piano was a little dusty and I'm sure it had been a little while since it had been vacuumed out). I appreciated them thinking about this and they patiently waited while I vacuumed out the piano to my satisfaction. After they moved the piano into place in my house, they took care to place foot pads on the piano legs to save my carpet and gave me tips on how to move the piano if I was to decide to place it in a different spot in my house at a future time. I was impressed with the extra care and time they took. I would totally recommend Checkmate Piano Movers and would use them again myself. read more

I used Checkmate to move my piano 2 yrs ago. They did a great job and charged me $225. I called to have them move it again 2 yrs later just 3 doors down and now they want to charge me $300!!!!! I don't think so........ Try Rick at Piano Warehouse he's only charging $100. read more

This review is long overdue. I felt like I owed it to people who are looking for a piano mover to finally get the word out there and warn people NOT to use Kevin and Checkmate Piano Movers. I will start by saying that in my lifetime, nobody except Checkmate had moved our 1918 Steinway that has been in our family since my great-grandmother bought it in 1918. It's our family's most precious possession and is passed down to each of the daughters on my mom's side of the family. In the past, Kevin has moved this piano from Colorado Springs to Parker, Parker to Denver and then a small move within Denver (for which he charged me $600 - which I was fine with). Last spring, my husband and I needed to move - hopefully for the last time (!) due to a physical issue I have. We needed to be in a ranch-style house. We found the perfect house in April, with a move-in date of early June. The FIRST thing I did after we had the contract on the house was to call Kevin and ask him if he could move the piano any time the first week of June. He could pick the day. He said yes, he absolutely could and would get back to me with a day based on other moves he had going on then. I said fine. I then called back in May to confirm that he could still move it. Yes, he said he could and would be able to move it that Tuesday or Wednesday. Again, I said that was fine. Well, we get to that week and I called him on Monday to ask which day it would be (having left my VERY busy schedule open for him, given that this was the most important thing to me in my move). He hemmed and hawed and said his other moves fell apart. I said I would pay him whatever he wanted if he would come move it for me. He said I would have to pay extra for mileage. I said that was fine. We settled on Wednesday. I called Wednesday to ask what time he'd be there. He eventually called me back and said he couldn't find anyone to help him move the piano. Ummm.....what??? Our official moving day was Saturday and we HAD to be out of the house that day. He PROMISED he would be there that day and it would be no problem to do so. I then called our movers and told them the piano movers would be there and would it be ok if they stopped what they were doing while Kevin and his crew were there bc I didn't want anything to happen to the piano. They were fine with that. I called Kevin Friday to find out when he would arrive on Saturday. No call back. I called Saturday morning to ask again when he would be there. Crickets. He eventually called me back to tell me he wasn't coming. WHAT????? IF YOU DON'T WANT THE JOB, KEVIN, DON'T TAKE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!! He is SO incredibly LUCKY that the new owners were willing to let me leave the piano there until I could scramble and get someone there at the end of the next week. You know why YOU are lucky, KEVIN? Because in the real estate contract, we had to pay $250 EACH DAY for anything left in the house after the move-out date. Guess what I would have come after you for if they hadn't been nice about it and not charged us?? $1,250. Yep, that's what I would have come after you for, Kevin! Now don't you think it would have just been better for you to tell me you didn't want the job?? Nobody in my family will EVER use him again. He is the epitome of UNPROFESSIONAL! read more

I had confirmed a time with Kevin from Checkmate to move a piano. Both I, and the owner of the piano had set aside 2 hours out of our Saturday to be available for Kevin to move it from their house to ours. Kevin and his team never showed up and never called. I left him 3 messages the day of moving and he never got back to me. This is inexcusable for a professional company. read more

We had returned from Pennsylvania with a Chickering Reproducing piano in full working condition. Checkmate got us in their schedule on short notice even though it was Thanksgiving week. They handled this rare bird with delicacy and care, and got it set up for us with never a slip. After travelling 1,700 miles and with their care in setup, the piano worked perfectly. We are so pleased with Checkmate's service and highly recommend them to any one looking for a mover. read more
