Stopped here for dinner as we made our way back to Houston. I found out since they have an outdoor seating, you can have your dog with. Good to know for next time. The restaurant has some great decor and it looked clean as far as the eye can see. Their croissants were a little over baked so it was a bit of a bummer since I know how good these are when baked perfectly. Our meals were good besides the fries and the broccoli and cheese casserole being cold. Overall our waitress was very kind, friendly and patient. Cheddar's is kind of like a bougie Cracker Barrel: southern-style cooking with a wide variety of really solid items. The last two times I've been there, I've ordered a double decker fried chicken platter with gravy, cheese and bacon mashed potatoes, and baby carrots or corn off the cob (GO FOR THE CARROTS. They're sweet and satisfying. Corn was uninteresting and didn't complement it well). Chicken is crispy, melts in your mouth, so delightful and HUGE. The gravy has a hint of sweetness to it that I quite enjoyed. I feel it works better on the chicken than the mashed potatoes. I would rate the dish a 9/10. I feel like certain side choices would be better, and I have yet to find the perfect combination. But how about that bread? The croissants here are superb. It's like having dessert before the meal without it being too overpoweringly sweet. The flavor is comparable to O'Charley's rolls (RIP our local O'Charley's) but the texture is very flakey and unique among restaurant bread in my experience. Cheddar's croissants get a 10/10. Nothing like it. The location is lovely. There's a big fan in the center of the establishment and multiple lovely seating areas. The place is pretty quiet, the music is alright, and the stonework is gorgeous. Really, the whole restaurant is a work of art. I do think some easy listening music would complement the atmosphere of the restaurant well, but perhaps that's not what most people would want. Right now it's soft rock. 9/10 ambiance. I'm not sure what it's going for but I like it. The service is usually very good. My only real gripe was that my most recent visit had a waitress that was complaining a bit more than I considered was professional. But she still did her job fine...it was really just a minor irritation. Everybody has bad days, I suppose. 9/10 service. Pricing is standard fare for a chain sit-down restaurant in my opinion. Please go to Cheddar's. It's a wonderful establishment and one of Bristol VA's best. It's more reliably high-quality than Chili's, tastier than Cracker Barrel, and much more relaxing than Logan's. My only recommendation would be to consider getting something that isn't a steak. Their steaks aren't bad, but it isn't their specialty, and you can get better steaks elsewhere. They do chicken very well, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to coming back to Cheddar's, and I hope it's sooner rather than later. read more

Had an excellent experience with my husband while visiting from out of town. We've never been to a Cheddar's, so imagine our surprise when two enormous & flaky croissants found their way to our table! My husband remaked on the great prices and went with a whole rack of ribs. I'm attempting to balance out the croissant I just had, so I ordered grilled chicken and shrimp with steamed carrots. It's kind of weird to go to a restaurant and say, man, those were the best carrots I've ever had, but here we are. Our server, Mattie, did a great job. The food was delicious, fresh, hot! I ordered a dinner salad as one of my sides (for an upcharge of $.99), and asked to have it served prior to my entree. Our entrees were served with no salad. I reminded the waiter I had a salad, and he said he would bring it right out, that there had been "an issue with getting lettuce chopped". Approximately 12-15 minutes later, just as we were finishing our meal, the waitress brought the salad with the extra dressing I had requested. Since we had finished eating, I asked if she could just put the salad in a "to go" box. Ten minutes later, she returned and apologized for the wait, stating she had to wait for lettuce to be chopped! My salad was already prepared when she brought it to the table, so no lettuce needed to be chopped! I opened the very small "to go" container, and found maybe one-third of my original salad and only one dressing! Obviously, my original salad was served to someone else, and a new, very small salad packaged to go! It certainly wasn't worth the extra $.99 for the side! I should have asked for a box and packaged the salad myself! Lesson learned for sure! Cheddar's is one of our favorite restaurants, but this was not a pleasant experience! read more

Had a " ladies" lunch here with 10 ladies. I called ahead to reserve a table. When we were seated, menus, napkins, silverware and straws were on the table. I was pleasantly surprised! The baby back ribs were great, the portions generous, the sides were fresh, the service was really friendly and attentive and it was super affordable. Ok I'm from a big city where we have a gazillion bougie choices to select from, but for a smaller town and you just want some comfort food in a clean chain restaurant I was satisfied. Wait staff was slow on clearing empty plates at our table when we were done with something. Wait staff was slow in how quick they returned to check on our table. The waitress seemed like she was covering one too many tables. She knew what she was doing and working as quickly as she could, but was behind. Her service was good when she was at our table. Most of our food came out cool to cold. The vegetables were cold, not even room temperature. They were warmed and broiler back very warm. Over food was ok. I was expecting more fresh tasting items from a scratch kitchen. I'd consider trying this particular Cheddar's again and see of they do better. If they do improve, then it's a good place to get basic good food. read more

We had a family gathering large party about 12, when taking the order the server put everything on one check when it came time to separate the checks she was having too many problems trying to figure out how to do it and when she did it it was still wrong so she had to make a second trip to fix the first mistake, we had balloons the 2balloons got away, but we seated under the fans and every time the fans went around the the strings on the balloon would hit the fan and dust from the fans kept coming down on the table . I definitely recommend this Cheddars. The hubs and I plus our son and granddaughter really loved this Cheddars and as my granddaughter says "BEST PEACH TEA EVER". So the hubs and I split the smokehouse burger with cheddar cheese and fries. I just had a house salad comes with egg if you like it can be removed, the granddaughter got the classic burger with cheese and no rabbit food on it. our son got the chicken tenders with a baked potato. Charred bread. Dried out shrimp and pasta from setting under a warming light, I assume. Cheese sauce for chips was nothing beyond melted and thinned out Velveeta. The onion rings that didn't even meet the standard for "warm" were stacked up so that plenty of air could flow and turn them from barely warm into officially "cold." Wait staff put in wrong entree for my son--who was celebrating his 25th birthday--so we were stuck there even longer, waiting for his food. The hostess and a friend stood at the hostess stand talking loudly enough for us to hear every word 2+ tables away. Unacceptable doesn't begin to cover it. And the ranch was quite literally the most delicious and exquisite ranch in the world. Our waiter was very nice and the food came quick. There's nothing scratch about this place. I ordered a burger and at least you could scratch make a burger patty with ground beef. Instead it looked and tasted like they went to the grocery store and got a box of the cheapest frozen patties and cooked that. Fries were soggy and way to salty. I hate that the croissants aren't included with the meal anymore, but it's been a while since my last trip to Cheddar's, so it may have been this way for a while. The location was good and the building itself is very well kept and clean. Lots on the menu, including a yummy seasonal watermelon margarita. Hubby got the bbq chicken (more than twice hay he could eat) and I got the honey mustard chicken (again, about a double portion). We'll definitely stop again the next time we're in town. read more

Food was cold and greasy. Luke warm cup of decaffeinated coffee was 2.99. Cashier was rude and when I complained about the food, she started telling me what I should have done. A meal that was $8.99 on the menu cost $16.30 with nothing added but a cup of coffee. Gross, very unpleasant experience. I won't be back. read more
