So many yummy items on the menu...the onion rings could be a meal, the veggies are fresh and delicious, really nothing bad on the menu that I'm aware of. If you're a bloody mary fan, get the one with moonshine. I personally don't usually go for this drink except here. So good...but I will guarantee that my food experiences here are not influenced by the booze. read more

Cheddars is a favorite of mine. They were very accommodating to my shellfish allergy. The manager was able to tell me what could possibly cause a problem for me. Terrible service. I was completely underwhelmed with the quality of service we received. Our waitress took 20 minutes to take our order and then our food took another 45 minutes to arrive. She didn't even come to check on us for drink refills or to see how we were doing. Finally when our food arrived, It was cold. Our waitress forgot to ask us what we wanted for a side and when we told another waiter, she told him that she thought we didn't want any sides. She also forgot our appetizer and when we reminded her, she told us that they made them but "they didn't look appetizing to her" so she was having them make new ones. Food: The food was good. Lots of free add-ons, like the spicy ground beef in the queso, and the roll with the salad. The actual beef part of the bacon cheeseburger was cooked well, just without any sort of spice to it, very bland, but otherwise good meat. Atmosphere: Noisy. Noisy. Noisy. In case you did not hear me, it was very loud. Sounds seemed to echo and amplify. Not pleasant. Seating: When we arrived, a party of 6, we were told 15-20. After 25 we approached, and were told they table for 6 they were waiting on was chit-chatting. 10 mins later, seated, but we walked past 3-4 6 person booths, empty, on the way to our 6 person booth. Not sure what happened there, but it reflected poorly on the seating staff. I liked the food, but everything else really drags the place down. 2 1/2 stars, rounded up to three for the freebies. read more

This was our first time eating here and everything was so very good. We were there late due to travel but the food was so fresh and I would definitely recommend the Country Fried Chicken!! Second time eating here both times good service and well prepared food. The red beans and rice side is excellent, wish they offered it as a bowl instead of a side. We are from the south and never thought we would find RB & Rice this good in Iowa. The potions are huge, the side salad I ordered was large and dressed properly I hate too little or too much dressing. We will be back...I noticed some people thought it was noisy, the restaurant was packed and there was noise but nothing disturbing. My husband and I could converse in a normal voice. Food is average. My problem is a charge to my credit card that I have been unable to get removed since 12/22/2014. They don't dispute the charge they just fail to follow through after several calls. Called corporate and got voice mail also and no response. So watch your charges as they the basic staff is overworked and organization is apparently lousy. THIS IS AN UPDATE AS OF 02/09/2015. After numerous calls to the restaurant and corporate office still no one ever called back or were helpful. Have to go to bank now to complain and file a claim with VISA as my bank says that's the procedure. They are a very disappointing operation. DO NOT recommend from my experience. There are soooo many words that I could use to describe them, but they have more lawyers than I do. read more

Great margarita. Got the Texas version. No need to spend more when there basic recipe is so good. Huge portions of everything. We got queso and chips, quesadillas, and chicken pot pie. Good prices and great food. We go here quite a bit for lunch and it has actually gotten better overall. The service lately has been excellent and the food is cooked fresh. Favorites are their onion rings and the miso glazed salmon. They recently raised their prices but they are still comparable to other chain restaurants. Not our favorite place for a steak, however, and I wish they would bring back their apple yogurt medley as a side dish. Overall, a great place for lunch. read more

When Cheddar's first opened this past summer, we were very pleased with the service and quality of food. However, I dearly hope that management is paying attention to these reviews. Recently, my wife and I dined there on a Friday night. The service was fine, our server was a nice young kid will minimal experience so we chalked up his service level to inexperience. However our food quality, well.....let's just say I've cooked better meals at home. I ordered the salmon, and it pretty much sucked- overcooked and the rice and steamed veggies served with it were ice cold. My wife had some pasta, and it was also ice cold. Not good Cheddar's for a place being open less than a year! Guess we'll just take our business down the street until things improve! Thinking of going to Cheddar's? Let me tell you about my experience there tonight... First, as we're waiting for our food, which took no less than 30 minutes, I watched as the bartender spilled what I assume was a philly cheesesteak, from a to-go order all over the bar. Did he clean it up and hurry to go get a new sandwich? NO! He picked it up with his bare hand, which he had used to make drinks, clean up around the bar, handle money, etc, and then scooped the meat that had spilled off the bar back into the box. He then closed the box and put it back in the bag, as if nothing had happened. So, clearly knowing that this wasn't right, I went to find a manager. I found her, let her know what had happened, and asked her to remain discreet about how she had found out as I did not want my service to suffer. (Thankfully I was already done eating.) She crept around for a minute or two and then called the bartender back to the kitchen. Of course, while they were back there, the patron came and got his bag of food. And the helpful bartender came out just in time to watch the bag walk out the bar. Nothing further was done. So, my husband and I were by now ready to pay our bill and be out of there. With our waitress nowhere to be found, we continued to observe. We watched as the other bartender put limes in the bar dishes with his bare hand- equally as not clean as his buddy's. The family next to us let the waitress know that their glasses were dirty (lip prints), their silverware had crusted food on it, and, just as we were leaving, I watched as the waitress picked a baked potato up off this woman's plate, I am assuming because she had complained about it, WITH HER BARE HAND, and told her that she wouldn't have eaten it either. A good 20 minutes or more after we had finished eating and sat with empty drinks in front of us, our waitress finally showed up and asked if we were ready. Being completely disgusted, we said yes. Had this girl shown us more attention, she likely would have gotten more drinks out of us. I might have even had another one had she asked me if I wanted another, rather than just hurrying me out the door. She brought us our bill and a whole 2 minutes later, while our credit card is clearly not sitting out, she came back to the table and asked if we were ready yet. I was real done about this time! We gave her our card and got out of there. But our experience isn't done there! On the way home we decided to call the corporate office in the hope that they might care more than the store manager. We looked on the corporate webpage, but were unable to find a phone number for their corporate office. So, my husband called the local number to see if they might have one. The super bright hostess (sarcasm) told him that they did not have the phone number, but offered him the number to Oscar, the culinary manager, and Amy, the store manager. After reading both numbers, our bright little star realized that they were the same number. Being completely baffled, he hung up, only to realize that the number she had given him was no other than the same number he had called her on. So, being the insistent do- gooder that he is, my husband called back and asked to speak with Oscar. He was put on hold for what felt like an eternity, but may have only been 9 minutes, before he was hung up on. Not be deterred, he once again called back. This time, he spoke with the original manager that I had talked to. He let her in on everything we had observed, and while she did agree it was all very disgusting, she did nothing to try to keep us as customers. His parting words were that we would not be back. read more

Love this place for lunch and you can't beat the place for steak and tenders. 6.95 and 12.99 for the cost of each. Ruby Tuesdays cost 18.99 and you don't get nearly as much. They pride themselves on being a causal cafe and they live up to that expectation until you meet the servers. Maybe this is new to the area but the staff drops the ball compared to the ones I've visited in Florida. Hot food needs to be hot and if it sits around waiting for the others the waitress should say something or bring it out earlier. read more

Cheddar's in Coralville needs improvement. A lot of their wait staff needs to be retrained. The first time we went when they just opened - service was slow and they screwed up the food. The manager did come over and apologize and did fix the food order. But I'm sure they were just trying to get the kinks ironed out after just opening. My daughters mini corn dogs were not totally cooked - the only thing kids liked were fries and ice cream dessert. The third time we went the server kept bringing out 1 order ahead of all other orders, including the kids food. Kids food should always be brought out first - especially if the parents request it. Different servers brought out the same plate/food 3 different times for 1 adult. It was cold by the time they brought it out the 3rd time. We did complain to the server but he gave us a deer in the headlights look. He said he would call the manager over but he never came over - maybe the server never told him about the problem? Food is OK. Nothing outstanding - same chain style food you get at other restaurants - except for the croissants - they are great! The portions are large. Wait time is also a real pain. Go early to avoid the lines. Still not sure if we will go back. Downtown IC restaurants may be worth the drive and parking fees. read more

Only place in Cedar Rapids i know that has Monte Cristo's. I've had a really good Monte Cristo in the past so the bar was pretty high, but Cheddars exceeded those expectations. We were instantly seated for lunch (2 people) and after we ordered, we had our food within 15min. What i was really surprised about was the amount of food for the money. It was actually the same catfish that I hate, they simply changed the name. I wasted money on this and enjoyed my fries as my wife ate her salmon. After waiting our waitress came by and said our food was done later to find out that our order was never putt in. However just this last time found a woodchip in my house salad (not knowing how it got there?) Called over the waitress and she just looked at me like "what am I supposed to do?" So my aunt had to ask for them to make a new one. I had also ordered a burger to go, and my waitress had forgotten, making us having to wait another 30 minutes for it to be cooked. Worst experience of any Cedar Rapids restaurant. We were seated quickly, but that is where the service ended. We waited 15 minutes before the waiter took our drink order, meanwhile, several staff members were standing around laughing and playing on their cell phones. 30 minutes later our order arrived. Our cheeseburgers were a blob of grease. The cheap plastic cheese was not melted and the hamburger was raw in the center. The food was disgusting!!
